@@mysterj1 - Thank you. I know the name but didn't know it was him. But from the first beat, something about his backbeat... I don't know. He says a lot with so little. I'll have to refresh on his history. EDIT: ah, 'deep pocket groove'. No wonder I felt it.
Many love the intro and other facets of this song, but I have always loved the last half of it...at 4:46 onwards till the end. The keyboards and Eric's guitar in tandem... Simply magical!
This is such a timeless music experience that once had, you can never get over. If I were to offer my thumb to Mr. Clapton as a teacher's offering, it'd still not suffice. That's the magnitude of the changes he's brought in my life. I love him a lot more than I probably should.
I have always felt that Eric's soloing here--especially when his back is turned to the audience---has such a much more intimate feel, as if he is playing for Pattie alone, or maybe just to himself as he reminisces about the whole affair. There is such a gentle quality to his playing that to me, it appears that he is still very much in love with her, and always be. David Sancious' guitar playing is just so good, and then he and Billy take us through the iconic Piano Exit" with stereo pianos. Simply sublime.
I was frankly more impressed with David's contribution to this particular piece than with Eric's, and that's saying a hell of a lot! They're all brilliant musicians! 👑🎸🎹🥁👑
The goddamn swag....❤ Tunes, let's the band know...ok ... we're doing this thing.. everyone on point? Cool, and turns around and lays out one of the most iconic riffs ever.....I hope I die before him...
Für mich, eines der besten Konzerte die letzten 25 Jahren. Alle Musiker sind gut drauf, und bieten einen unvergesslichen Abend. Clapton ist einer der besten….. und Kenner wissen es,
I'm convinced this is the single best version of Layal ever comitted to tape. Just brilliant with the brooding intro and the intense solo!
I agree.
Best version hands down.
agreed
Awesome 🎸🎸🎸
I agree whole heartedly, when I think of listening to this song live it’s this version
I saw this concert and it was an absolutely amazing
You’re an awfully lucky man. This record left me breathless. Maybe EC’s best.
Been looking for this version forever
One of the best rock bands ever assembled right here.
The intro solo is magnificent. Everything is on time..
I love this version so much more than the cut that made it on the CD.
The CD version is way too slow
Me too! There’s a huge difference in sound and the solo.
One of thier best nights. And the drummer. Just wow.
Steve Gadd. Steve Gadd is to drummers where EC is to guitarists.

This brilliant stratsound at the right? David Sancious💪👍
Love that intro and solo. One of the first solos i learned. So melodic and yet accessible when you're just learning :)

Best live version

Eric was his usual great self but David Sancious’ playing and tone took the song to a whole other level.
Dave a great musician ❤
Word!

I went to his show in Rio de Janeiro, on this tour, at Praça da Apoteose, a magical moment! What a show!

The GODDAMN SWAG.... Cranks volume and distortion before he whips around big Fender swinging...

Billy Preston could play the keys better in his sleep than most of us could ever dream to. 👑🎹🎹🎹👑
the solo here is so much more musical
Absolutely stunning performance 🎸🎸🎸
...this was uploaded 10 years ago and has 1k views? How did that happen?
Was uploaded earlier (like 2006) but taken down. I’d been looking for this version.
