- Do you hate being cold? It doesn't have to be that way. In fact: it's easy to make your home feel comfy.
Today we show you how to insulate walls and ceilings. We use batt insulation from Johns Manville.
For more home improvement tips visit www.homerepairtutor.com/👍🏼
My buddy Bill just built an addition. So we were lucky to have open walls and ceilings to show you our insulation tips.
Here are 8 tips to help you get started with your insulation project:
1. Get your stud and joist dimensions
2. Choose an insulation type
3. Cut batt insulation to size
4. Make sure insulation fits tight against framing
5. Staple tabs (if present) on inside of framing
6.Tape any seams or torn kraft-faced insulation
7. Don’t block air vents with ceiling insulation
8. Use spray foam around windows (specifically for windows)
Check out the video for all the details and a sweet surprise at the end.

HONESTLY YOU ARE RIDICULOUS THAT IS A VERY POOR JOB , BAD JOB 2 ON 10
😹😹😹
Agreed! 😌
@@IMAPROUDCANADIAN Why is it a bad job?
Awesome video. I'm a senior who has been finishing my basement. The project is in year 2 and progressing well. The tips for bat insulation were great, especially the splitting behind wire, shaping around outlets, filling holes in studs from wire pass throughs, taping and how to staple. fantastic tips that I didn't know. Thanks
I liked seeing the insulation puff up.
Currently starting to set up my own hangout area in my garage. Putting up insulation and drywall in there but, I’ve never done either before. Sat down and watched this for tips and a beginner’s how to of sorts. Worked perfect for me and is a great video for novice people like myself! Will definitely be checking out more videos to help me along the way!
Im remodeling my house. I needed to learn how to set up the insulation on the walls and roof. Thank you for your advice and I see, it's easy to install the insulation. I'll do it for myself because i was waiting for my brothers to do it. Thank you again.
Thats a very good video. I was not overwhelmed at all and am more confident about doing this to my outside laundry room. So thank you for keeping it simple and being clear on the how to threw and threw.
Great video. My wife and I can't wait to get started insulating our addition. Thank you!
Thank you soo much #Winter Warrior. These are excellent demonstrations for installation of insulation on ceiling and walls in your home. Our homes are our Castles 2024 and BEYOND...FOREVER...
I am a great fan of You Tube and was very pleased to see this video regarding how to insulate Walls and especially the ceiling. The sound and verbiage were perfect. The sequence was well performed and especially of interest was the JM product and R factor. Thank you very much and now I can go to my local Lowes with knowledge of what to ask for and how to install the same. I am a true fan and thanks. With confidence I will be looking for the next phase of finishing my building.
It looks pretty simple. I need to have a small room insulated before winter. thanks for showing me how.
Great Video. I thought it was going to be a difficult job, but after watching the video I had enough confidence to do it myself! Thanks!😊
You answered several of my questions! Thank you!👍🏻
Thank you for this video. It is very thorough. We just had pipes burst in Texas and need to install the insulation that was torn out.
Definitely follow all your tips. Good job guys thanks
Finally someone spilts around wire, great technique! I know its not needed but I tend to foam around the elec box just a obsessive thing lol. Great video.
Spray foam??
Great video! Loved that you had the little ones involved to star the program...
Thank you , I was trying to figure out what side of the insulation should face outward
Thanks for the great info and for making this look like it’s manageable. 😊
Thank you for the good tips. I loved the refresher.
This confirms what I need for my up coming addition. Thx.
Thank you for the great tips. I have watched quite a few videos and I think I am finally ready to handle this job. Putting insulation up on my She Shed. Girl Power!

So very useful! Thank you.
If you staple inside the stud you end up compacting the insulation around the edges which lowers the R-value. You need the insulation to fully fill the cavity in order to maintain it's full R-value. Staple on the outside of the stud, it's the way to go. If there's a staple sticking out, pull it out and staple again or use a hammer to sink it in.
Any more tips for someone who's never put up insulation? Have an upcoming project
I could give you some based on your region? My family runs a small insulation business. What're you planning to do? Ceilings? Walls? Vapor barrier? Caulking? Codes vary state by state. I live in Ontario, Canada so we're quiet extreme with building codes
@@jq7323 Wize ass ! This comment is 100% accurate !
@@RT-tn4ry ?
I think mine in Florida were stapled inside! Maybe because drywall needs to be flush on the ceiling!
now in 2022 I can use this video to give me courage to insulate a wall in my home ! Maybe my son will help ...Im sure he will ...
Thank you! I’m going to try this on my own in a shed conversion.. this was very helpful. It will be my first time doing something like this and on my own. I thought to hire people but it was way more then I can afford. Thank you!! Hope I am entered into the raffle as well for the $100 because I could really use it right now .. blessings
Great job guys!
Staple to the outside edge of the stud. Tap staples down with a hammer. Much more insulation that way.
Awesome work !
Sweet video. I’m a DIY guy and your video was all the info I needed, thanks guys, keep them coming.

Very helpful. Thanks
Just as I was puzzling about how to fit insulation around the joists and electrical boxes and wires in my garage, along comes your video. Didn't know what to buy, that you could cut it to fit, that you stapled it in, nothing, so this video was awesome. Thanks much! If you ever address the challenge of trying to insulate around a garage door with the automatic garage door already installed, I'll be sure to be in the audience.
+Valdene Ortiz very happy to help!! If you have any questions please let me know. You might also like our private Facebook group because you can post pictures and get answers pretty quick. It's totally free and a really nice group of people :D

Awesome video! And awesome Vader mug! I've been meaning to tackle putting in some insulation in the space above our master bedroom. It's on the (always growing) to-do list. Thanks and always enjoy your videos. Became a home owner back in 2012...you're my go-to dude!
+truthdrums sweet, thanks. It's an honor to be your go-to-dude...in fact, I might adopt that title. The batts make insulating so much easier. I'd take an entire bag up into the attic if you can. Makes transport easier.
+truthdrums send me an email..I have something for you

Good info!
Great!! Love it
Nice work
I’m using johns Manville I’m doing it all myself! Ceilings only after hurricane damage! I find it great for keeping temp comfortable! I did tape the seams with insulation tape!
Wiring in the ceiling and pipes are a pain but 🤷🏻♀️ definitely tiring! 64 yr old female here and if I can do it so can you! The cost was to be 13,000 by a pro but I’d have to remove all my furniture myself .. NOOOO I may complete the job for $7,000 including my 3 car garage! R38! It did have R19 in Florida! Next is drywall 🙏
9:32 enjoyed watching gonna try to do this myself!
That's awesome help
I've just Began thks project at home, thanks for the tips on the video! Cheers!
My thanks. Carry on!
I have insulated hundreds of homes this is by far one of the best types very good video
Literally the only vid with everything!
thank you, hopefully it helps out
Outstanding job I’ll be doing my shed when it gets built
Very clear instructions and demonstration. I feel pretty confident that I can do this project myself, in my new place, which presently has no insulation (or drywall) upstairs. I'm going to need it because I live in Maine. Thank you!
Why would there be "no" insulation in your new home? Did you buy an unfinished home, building yourself, or the builders did not insulate?
I purchased a 32' School Bus that they didn't take the time to insulate in "Missouri" (where it snows in the winter! Fortunately, I am in Los Angeles, and staying here until this bus is fully insulated)... Which I find kind of odd, and stupid... When you're taking the time to convert to a RV. So, I'm trying to go back and open up the walls & insulate myself (definitely not as easy as it would've been, when they originally put up the walls). And, I want to do the ceiling as well... I'm a female doing this project on my own 😊 Christina
Awesome and educational video, I think I'm ready to insulate my home. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Tania, hope the tips help
Well done ,you make this look so easy.Wish you lecture a bit re R values

Adding insulation for a remodel now. Nice to see the proper fitting for electrical wires and penetration seals.
Love this video, can't wait to try this insulation on my home. Thanks for the really easy instrutions!
Thank you
Insulating is the easy part, framing is the difficult one and oh boy if you got windows. It is not a fun job to do alone, but do not be discouraged, go ahead tiger.
Good over-view and would like to know if you plan on doing anything with the upper area in the ceiling for insulation?
thanks for the video . i subscribed

I like that mug too, coffee doesn't stay warm in it though. Must be a Sith thing...
Thank you I thought it would be harder.
Thank you for this video! Im looking to insulate my ground floor cold room and i have one row of 8"blocks on the floor and then a wood frame made by 1.5*5.5" studs!! So i have a 1 row of blocks on the ground that's thicker than the frame by 2.5 inches towards the inside of the room. Any idea what to do with this difference with thickness? how to insulate?
