As a new sunn listener, I find this album is easier to listen to than monoliths. I mean it is a good piece to begin with., monoliths needs severals listenings.
I know, I'm still waiting for Black Two! They did a fantastic live set with Justin Broadrick of Godflesh which you can find on Bandcamp. It's mind boggling that they didn't do a studio version as it's a real standout!
Please say something about the Buddhist-oriented title of this release? Really gorgeous and powerful, and Anna Von Hausswolff was a perfectly natural choice for a collaborator.
Listening on a decent set of JVC's and her vocal is OK, IMO. If anything, the pad synths could have been further forward in the mix. EDIT: Actually, scrub that, just got on to Pyroclasts C# and the mix and balance is much better.
