Great video. The best way to learn is by watching other and seeing that none of us start out perfectly and the only way to learn is from our mistakes. One thing I like to do is take a line on the dock cleat and leave it draped over the piling so it's very easy to grab hold of when you first come into the slip.
I've had a lot of mistakes to learn from in the last couple of months! I like the idea of snagging a line already on the dock and attaching it to the midship cleat. Would achieve the same thing as the loop. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks! I tend to over think things and worry too much. Once I thought it through and had tried it enough times the anxiety melted away. I learned a lot and now feel pretty good about getting in and out on my own. (It helps to have an easy slip)
Instead of trying to put loop over dock cleat (small and fiddly), secure the loop to the boat cleat (thru center and over horns). You want the dock line to go from your boat around the dock cleat and back to your boat. This u-turn in the line creates a large loop that can be thrown beyond the cleat onto the dock, and by pulling in the free end, the line comes up nicely around the cleat without any fuss. You can also adjust the line length all from where you’re standing. It can be tied correctly once the boat is secure. Good luck and fair winds!

Great Job!! Love the music.
Thanks! I got a copyright ding for the suspenseful/ominous segment, but it fits so well I think I will leave it.
I also have a 35 foot sailboat but still not confident to dock on my own yet. Love your video.

great video, thanks for this.
Thanks for the comment. It is liberating to be able to get out on my own again.

Yes, I like that. I will definitely give it a try. Thanks for the comment.
I find TH-cam videos on sailing helpful, too!
And, hopefully, entertaining. Thanks for the comment!
