i think she means its easier to get over someone if you despise/hate them. obviously if you continue to think of all the good you'll fall into depression because you miss them so bad. but if you focus on the bad and think of them as pieces of shit it helps you put things in perspective and remember why you shouldnt be with them, allowing you to move on easier. but of course dont be nasty towards them or show hatred esp in front of your children!
Think of your ex as a piece of you know what? That's now how you move on. That's how you hold on to hate and anger. Not to mention that there is a child involved. Terrible advice Martha. I was sure she was going to advise her to keep on good terms with her ex. This shows what an emotional cripple Martha is.
