The allies liberated Tunisia from the Germans and gave it back to the French, haha, liberation indeed. You know what, it's all the Palestinians' fault 😉

As a Tunisian Jew whose father was 22 in 1942, I can attest to the stories my father had told us that the Italians were much more lenient and that the Germans were horrible, in commandeering houses with vantage view points and confiscating even sewing machines from Jews. My father was a forced labourer for the Germans sent to empty out cargo ships for them, or cleaning their barracks, when allied planes bombed the harbour, Jews were locked into the ships to deter their attack. My father always hoped the pilots were British as they were more accurate in their missions , while theAmerican pilots lacked accuracy and making it more dangerous for civilians . Thankfully , it lasted only 6 months and they had no time to complete concentration camps they had started building. When Tunisia was liberated, Jews were ecstatic!
Sadly, my mother’s brother that did seek refuge in france was pinpointed by collaborators and died with his son in concentration camps. People did not live more than few months in concentration camps, that’s if they were young and healthy, the harsh regimen of forced labour and little food meant that they could not last that long if selected for work

AS Muslim Tunisian my grandfather told me how Muslims hide our jews in village and nazis could not find since all were circumsized Only one Airplane could deport jews only one later nazis lost . Jews in Tunisia are a part of our culture for more than 2500 years .most of jews who left Tunisia were later after our indpendence not forcefully but they choosed more to go to France .Those who went to israel in FREnch time were not so happy there since they were treated as less civilised etc. Jews of North Africa culturally till today still have that connection. The food of jews of Tunisia is another level that's what my grandfather once told . For us jews food is halal since the kosher concept is somehow similar to our halal. anyway . Today's world is completely different of that was 1 century ago .alot of misconceptions. Good day Tune

So if they discovered concentration camps in N Africa, why were the European camps such a surprise to the allies during discovery in 1945?

As a Tunisian I know jews that look exactly like us in hsape and type and speech and also they are circumcised like us this got nazis in trouble to differentiate between us . German ruled Tunisia for 4 years and asked Tunisia Bey king to deliver jews he refused so only one airplane forcefully deported jews the others were protected in villages by Muslims

The Germans occupied Tunisia for 7 months maximum and had no time to kill Jews or finish the construction of concentration camps in Tunisia.
Jews were used in forced labour camps only, and only the young ones. Liberation came fast as the allies prioritized the invasion of Tunisia as they feared the Nazis could launch attacks towards Europe from the shorelines of Tunisia.
Jews never had to hide on Tunisian Muslims houses , it never got that bad. What happened after the 1967 war towards the Jews was much more scarring as the people burnt their business and I remember this because I lived through it. Bourguiba was descent and tried to give back a sense of confidence to Jews after that, but it was too late, most were politely shown the way out the door by treating them as second class citizens and usurpers of the people’s wealth
