I have one and have used it for all sorts of events. Great tent although I don't tend to detach the bedroom when I take it down. If you find a groundsheet you're doing well as they seem to be sold out everywhere. For me I'm happy to have a slightly bigger pack size for the benefits of having space and being able to stand up is a real bonus. Great video
@@michaelbullivant8828 I got a footprint direct from Vango, joined the stock availability list. Been very handy this year as a few trips were quite wet and the footprint gives you something to roll the tent up on instead of the often muddy ground
Very good content, learnt a lot from that. Firstly I love that Norfolk coastline I know those shops well but didn't realise the camp site was as good, yes you get what you pay for. I have not done moto camping for years but want to go again. At 6 ft 2 and in my mid 60s I find it hard to get dressed in bike gear while laying or kneeling on the ground. My knees cant take that any more. I have looked at the Galaxy 300 but never seen a review as good as this one. I have been looking at an easy pitch tent but as you said no dam room in them. Thanks again for sharing.
Firstly, thanks for the kind comments, appreciate it. Yeah I thought it was a small site, was shocked when they said it was £22 a night, but then when I saw the facilities I couldn’t complain. And it’s the best village/location along that stretch. Could do a great pub crawl between Hunny and Deepdale, catching the bus between hostelries! And totally about getting dressed, once I saw my mates Lone Rider Moto tent I was convinced there was a better way to Moto camp in comfort, any fool can rough it.
Really impressed with the Vango 300 Galaxy. You had me on the standing room. Equally impressed with the Burnham Deepdale campground. But most of all with what you cooked up for your tea in the tent vestibule - proper manly ingredients!
I'm trying to do more one pot meals and not buy the boil in the bags or dried food - it is a bit of a luxury tho and all the extra kit soon fills up your bags. Going off to the Lakes in June, my brother recommended a site he often goes to with his caravan - it's £36 a night for a caravan, £31.50 a night in a tent... WTF... It's £25 a night there off season, makes Deepdale seem cheap!
Hi Mike, I`ve just come across this tent at a local camping shop and your video gives great info on it ! I will probably get one as I`m looking for a larger tent for when I go to Ireland on my bike in Sept. I`m very impressed with the pack size. Thanks for sharing 😃😃
I got this tent on a cracking deal a few weeks back, probably won't use it till next year, so no idea if it's good, but I'm a big fan of Vango gear, it's always been value for money and have never been disappointed, only problem now is a groundsheet footprint is impossible to find.. I also have the Halo 300 which is absolute bombproof, the only problem is in bad weather you are stuck sitting inside crouched, I usually take a tarp with me, but if the wind gets up the tarp can't take it, so I purely bought this tent for the porch area and the stabilizing system for bad weather.
You can't stand up under a tarp in a field and be naked and have a wash, can't be in a field with others and be naked and get dressed, can't get out of the driving rain and wind under a tarp - a few scenarios were a tarp just isn't suitable. I will be taking a tarp on my next trip when I do a bit of bivvy bagging, so tarps certainly have there place, but so many seem to dismiss the bigger tents as excessive, but I'd disagree. Have you thought about making your own tarp, perhaps out of polypro or similar?
Well if you're green laning then it makes a big difference to handling ya bike off-road - obviously does make a bit difference on the road but a 3kg tent Vs a 6kg it's no difference really. Some do take a shit load of kit with them, pot, pans, kettles and BBQs etc.... err, not for me
Great Video and some good detail on the tent and other kit you use. I pondered over this tent for ages when looking for one to stand up in to use when camping on the bike. I have a Vango Banshee 300 which is great and have been using it for years, but needed the standing space as fed up of having nowhere to sit if it rained and getting into motorcycle gear was a pain. In the end, I did go for the LoneRider Moto tent. Pros, having the two doors is really useful and they have full mesh panels instead of one door and partial mesh, which is great in the heat but good in the cold as well. Dead end poles sleeves are excellent when setting up on your own, rip stop material and there seemed to be more useful pockets in the tent. Cons, weight, pack size and price. There also isnt any specific vent panels into the vestuble like on the Galaxy. I think LR are really missing a trick not making a UL version of it with shorter lenngth poles so it could fit into a pannier. Parking the bike in it is useful when striking down camp in the pissing rain or doing any work on the bike out of the elements (both of which I have had to do), but wouldnt ever intend to use it for security (no point) and was never a reason for me to go for it. On the Galaxy, I noticed a lot of people use tarp clips on the fly sheet to keep the porch walls more taught in high winds and prevent it flapping so much.
Yeah I thought Moto tents were just a bit big, then went to Adv bike festival with my mate who had one and I saw the light, getting changed laying down and wriggling like a maggot got very boring and just general admin was a pain. Sometimes a little tent is the right thing, but often a bigger tent makes way more sense, especially if you are in the same place few a few days 👍
Can’t say I’ve had an issue with flapping. Don’t see weight and pack size a a big issue in the Moto tent, some people take a whole other person on the back of their bikes, so 6kg extra is nothing - I think it’s a bit like saying the mortgage on my 4 bed house is a bit much, I’ll just live in a one room bed sit!
@@twowheeledadventuresuk2739 God to hear you haven’t had the flapping issue. I wasn’t comparing the tent’s weight and pack-size to the alternative of having a passenger on the back seat. When it’s on the back seat then doesn’t matter. It was as a direct comparison when I was researching and then deciding which one to go for between the Galaxy 300 or the Moto tent plus a couple more on my short list. For me, as a base camp tent the weight and pack size are worth it for the comfort you get at the other end (especially for the standing height). Ironically, I am now actually looking at getting a smaller free standing tent for a trip next year in Europe, as I will be travelling through instead of basing myself somewhere. Very at risk of creating a tent collection at this rate - it’s addictive! 😂
I have at least 12 tents, bought 2 bivvy tents this year, so god just realised I have 4 bivvy tents now… I only have 2 freestanding tents, an old vaude one I’ve had for years, bought when I was a mountain leader, and an MSR Access 1 I use in the mountains now. I prefer tunnel tents generally or single pole tents as they are quicker and easier to erect and free standing tents generally pitch inner first which is a problem when it’s raining. Tents are like motorbikes, you need more than one because one just isn’t enough, and no one tent or bike suits all scenarios! 🤷🏼♂️😂💪
It defo is, bags of room, get changed in and out of gear easily, stand up wash in it if needed - just not something you'd take to the top of a mountain!
