Hugh Cornwell (1949) wordt nog steeds gezien als één van de beste liedjesschrijvers uit Engeland. De originele gitarist, zanger en voornaamste songwriter van de legendarische band The Stranglers kende megasuccessen in Europa met 10 hit albums en éénentwintig top-40 singles in de 17 jaar dat Cornwell deel uit maakte van deze band. The Stranglers schreven onvergetelijke hits zoals ‘Peaches’, ’Golden Brown’, ‘No More Heroes’ en ‘Always The Sun’ 'Skin Deep'.
