Follow our horse journey and life on the farm as we vlog our daily lives with our animals.

    OMG your farm is so nice and neat. You and Scott have done an amazing job. Even your jumps look so professional. There is no junk or clutter lying around.

      Thanks, we’ve missed you guys, too! I feel like we have a lot of clutter and junk around, but we are working hard to get it all cleaned up and organized. We have done so much around the property and house each year since we moved, that we often forget, so I guess we shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves. I think this summer we will see so much change after we have completed our projects we want to get done. Once the goat barn extension is done, we will be able to organize things even better. I am so excited to have space for a tack room in the barn again! I can’t wait to show you guys my plans for the new tack room and I want to reorganize and do a feed room makeover, too.

    Watching for the 3rd time!! I wonder if Kate took her stirrups up a hole if it would help her keep her toes from turning out. Kate reminds me a lot of Eleese S. Check out her posts from Tryon. She will be a sophomore in college so she is riding ammy owner. Apple is her equitation horse, and Chino is her hunter. Plus she does fun vlogs about all sorts of day to day things…like going out to eat, shopping, just hanging out at home with all her horses. I think Kate will identify with her.

      We’ll check her out. Yes, Kate has a horrible habit of turning her toes out. We were just talking about it. It was a bad habit she picked up when she first started riding and has never really been able to break it. Her legs naturally want to turn out because she was breech, mine do the same thing. She has to really concentrate to get them turned in. She is working on different tricks to correct it. Her coaches are working on it with her, too. Hopefully, she finds something that works.

You are riding her in a great rhythm between the jumps and you have become such a mature. Thinking and positive rider in the past few months. @@BarnBootsandCountryRootsMy mom planted irises at our home in 1956. I was born in 1957. I planted some tubers at the first house my husband and I bought. I dug up some tubers and planted them at our 2nd house. We lived there for 27 years and they spread like crazy. Four years ago I took some tubers to both our sons in Montana, and they are doing well. We moved into our final home in January and I dug some out of the very cold ground and planted them . We were in Montana for 2 weeks earlier this month and OF COURSE they bloomed while we were gone, but my friend sent along some pics and oh my gosh!! I counted blooms and both of them had over 30!! They were stunning! I know Mom is looking down from heaven and she is filled with joy!

      OMG, I love that! I have flowers and hostas that we have brought from house to house as well, that we got from our parents and grandparents. It makes them so special. When Scott and I first got married, we lived in a house that had a garden planted by a friend of his family (from when he was little). My grandmother (who was my best friend and like a second mom to me) fell in love with some of the white flowers there, and wanted to bring some home to her garden so she had a piece of me with her (because we lived hours apart). She brought a piece of those flowers with her every time she moved. When she passed away and the house was sold, I brought them with me to our place here, and planted them right outside the door. They aren’t anything special, and are probably a step up from a weed with a pretty flower, but they are so special to me because she took such pride in them and they are the first thing I see when I step out the door. It’s like you said, every time I see them, I feel like she is looking down from Heaven with so much joy, and is right here with me ❤️. Everybody calls them Big Grandma’s flowers. One day, when Kate and Julia move to their own places and have families of their own, I plan on sending a piece of those flowers with them. I want to keep them passing down from generations, a gift from their Big Grandma ❤️. They spread like crazy, so it shouldn’t be hard 🤣. We also have a rose bush on the property that is said to have been brought here and passed down through the generations from the original owners, and the original rose bush was from 200 years ago (done through clippings that have been propagated over the years). It was almost dead and buried inside another bush but I have been bringing it back to life over the last 4 years because I feel like I can’t be the one to let it die, out of respect for that family. 😅

    Do you have any white irises? I think I am going to have to order from a garden catalog. And how about white lilacs? I wish I could share pics with you! The lilacs in Missoula Montana are amazing! Almost every yard has at least one, but most yards have many…deep purple, purple, pinkish violet, violet, and white. There are hedges of lilacs, 20 ft high and 15 ft across. Walking around Missoula in the Spring with all the lilacs it smells divine!

    • @BarnBootsandCountryRoots
      @BarnBootsandCountryRoots  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes I do! We actually have so many lilacs here, and yes, they are massive ❤️. We mainly have light purple, but also have white. They are one of my favourite flowers, and yes, the smell at this time of year is absolutely wonderful! We have some white irises as well. Scott and I are such garden geeks that our idea of fun is walking around all of our gardens each day, looking at how things are coming up, and getting excited about how each plant might grow by the end of the Summer! 🤣🤣🤣 We love spending time in the gardens together.

    How many of the babies were born polled? And maybe you said and I missed it, but do you band all the bucklings?

    • @BarnBootsandCountryRoots
      @BarnBootsandCountryRoots  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No babies were born polled so far (our polled doe is due in July). We take them to the vet to be disbudded within the first week that they are born. It is fairly inexpensive and well worth it for us. It is $30 for the vet to do it, and that includes the check up, procedure, sedation, pain medication that lasts a few days, and taxes… everything! I know most people do it themselves though. This is just what works for us and our animals. When the babies wake up, they are playing around like nothing happened. At around 4+ weeks old, their scabs fall off (Lucky just lost one of his scabs), and the hair is all grown back a couple of weeks later. The registered babies have to be disbudded and tattooed, so I am planning on bringing the tattoo stuff with me so the vet can do that as well when they are sedated so they don’t feel it. So far, all of our bucklings have gone to breeding programs, so they have not been banded. For Gideon, we took him to the vet to be fixed instead of banding, so we could allow him more time to grow and develop before he was fixed (it reduces risks of blockages in the future). We will be doing the same thing with Leo.
