This is my favorite scene of ANY movie ever! It was voted most iconic scene of any comic book movie
7:53 Is, and probably always will be, the greatest moment in superhero film history.
"A Friend"
That line always gets me
Interesting fact: During the making of Superman: The Movie; as they were filming in New York to stand in for Metropolis, the blackout of 1977 happened in which New York City and its surrounding areas were without power and electricity. The film's cinematographer, Geoffrey Unsworth, believed that when he tried to draw power from a street light; to get more light for the film, that he had caused the blackout.
I had just turned 9 before I went to see this film. In the wake of movies like Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, this was the perfect film for a kid to see characters like Superman on the big screen. Christopher Reeve really personified the character, and he really made you believe, according to the tagline of the movie, "...that a man could fly".
I remember at 11 seeing this for the first time. The poster said that " You'll believe a man can fly " . I always considered one of the first great superhero movies. Thank you for showing this.
This movie came out the year after I was born, and it's always been one of my favourites - and Superman one of my favourite superheroes! If you haven't done so already, I recommend watching the whole movie 🙂
Director Richard Donner went as far as he possibly could in making every element of the movie as believable as possible - including the kinetic energy elements in this scene. While you did indeed note that Superman dropped down a bit after catching Lois, he did the same when he caught the helicopter.
The only other scene I'll mention now, not knowing if you've seen it or not, is one with a teenage Clark racing a train. It's not a spoiler - but an old friend was a massive nitpicker with movies, and he said the thing that ruined this movie for him was that in the scene racing the train, you could tell the actor was suspended from a crane on the back of a truck because you could see his feet weren't touching the ground when he was running.
My response went "so, your major problem with Superman: The Movie was that in this scene, the title character's feet were not touching the ground? Superman? Who literally flies? Not touching the ground?" 🤣
I first saw Superman back in 1985 when i was just 4. Now i'm a 43 year old 6'4 250 pounds man with a huge superman logo tattooed on my shoulder!
This clip is part of the montage of the first night he reveals himself to the world/Metropolis. And, subsequently, the peoples reactions to this mysterious flying stranger
Now *THIS,* is Superman!
Kudos on appreciating the crowd's enthusiasm
Rip To A Great Actor Christopher Reeve, Still Miss You,The Best Superman Ever
All actors who portrayed Superman besides George Reeves (early TV Superman) learned the standard set by late great Christopher Reeve, original Superman.
Apparently, they didn't learn diddly squat since they don't even try to give Clark Kent his own personality.
@@jamesfowler5100 exactly. although cavill was a good superman , his clark kent was extremely lacking. they basically made his clark a sexy community college professor.
Best Superman movie, hands down! Great acting by All Stars!
Saw at the theater and still my favorite Superman in fact Christopher Reeve is Superman all others are actors, thanks y’all! 😊
I grew up watching this movie. It is still the benchmark for all superhero movies.
I love at the end of every film, when he's flying, he turns to the camera and smiles 😂
Just FYI that’s the News Corp building on East 47th St near the UN. You can go in and take pictures of the big globe in the lobby! I did, just surreal to be there! I too was worried about the poor pilot. It would have been tragic he’d been killed in the chopper fall
you guys should do a reaction of christopher reeve seamlessly transition from clark kent into superman and then back to clark kent without changing outfits, only using his posture, voice and stance. its amazing how good reeve was. he took the dumbest disquise ever (glasses) and made it plausible in reality. a true testament to how great of an actor christopher reeve really was. it happens directly after their romantic flight around metropolis. check it out. its why reeve will be almost everyones superman forever.
No cgi
This really was the grandfather of the modern super hero film. The other great one, that is super cheesy good, is 1980's Flash Gordon.
Watch the whole film! The film that set the standard for superhero films!
Music by John Williams just makes this film❤
No one can match Mr Christopher Reeves Superman I'm sorry future Superman but he's the template
Fine. React to the Stateroom scene from "A Night at the Opera."
moving faster than the ground, but I'm no scientist 😅
cough *injustice* cough *Kingdom come* cough.
Comic book issue 😂
Second that. In fact all that extra was actually covering it up.
Superman is the shit!!!!.... period
Great Reaction Guy's 😊
Great! It is very interesting to see your reaction to the film Robocop 1987. This is a cool movie 👍🔥🦾

Comic book issue
I suppose it's my duty to not donate a penny lol but ask for a pitty reaction lol. I'm a poor workin guy. Makings ends barley meet lol. Buttttt....it sure would be fun to see you guys do a favorite benny hill sketch of mine lol. I'll send the link if I can. It's called garden of love. Lol. It's in color. And on youtube. Make ol mark happy lol
@@markplacker5651 What makes you so special that you get a free request over the ones who, like me, have been paying for them for years. I have NEVER asked for a "pitty reaction" nor would I ever smdh.
@BamaMatters11 what makes me so special is this....I AM the bulk of your non paying audience. I am a part of allllll those likes and subscriptions. I am allllll of us who watch people like you milk the cash cow on reaction videos and ignore the majority non paying audience that makes you. That's who I am
@@BamaMatters11 how does this guy politely asking for something affect you? so you paid for it. good for you. you never look at someones plate to see if they have more than you. you look at someone elses plate to see if they have enough. youre the one whos pitiful here.
ISSUE!!!
I was 8 years old when I saw this in the theater. I believed then (and still do) that Christopher Reeve will *always* be Superman.
