  • In this video we will look at how to grow zoysia grass. We will look at the pros, the cons, and I will give some tips and trick for how to grow a thick zoysia lawn. Zoysia grass is perhaps the most desirable grass in warm climates. We will take a look a zoysia and compare it to other commonly use turf grasses such as bermuda, centipede, and St Augustine.

    I'm in Oklahoma, I put out pre-emerge in September and again in the first of March. I also fertilize the same as you however there's one problem I dealt with last year and it looks like it's starting again this year. I'm getting a fungus. Intermixed green blades with yellowish. Last year the fungicide worked well but I must say I'm disappointed to see the same thing again this year. I keep a razor sharp lawnmower blade, catch my clippings and water often and it literally looks like deep green carpet with no dead spots. This next remark may set the BS meter off with some of you but I am growing zoysia in 100% shade in a lot of places. The only sunlight is indirect when the leaves are blowing and moving allowing sunlight to come through. It's not as thick and health as the grass in the sun but nevertheless it covers the ground well. Thank you for your video!

    • @Dr.Warren
      @Dr.Warren  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With fungus it's usually a moisture issue sometimes in early spring it's unavoidable with cool nights and rain. Most the time the grass will grow out of it when it heats up or you can spray. 100% zoysia can take some thick shade but it will be noticeably thinner.

    Great info! For a new construction home, would you seed zoysia to save on cost rather than sod? And what would the timing be for when to put down topsoil, seed and fertilizer?

    • @Dr.Warren
      @Dr.Warren  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most Zoysia is sterile meaning their seeds do not produce grass. Zenith is a good seed zoysia if you go seed route. Top soil and seed is best done late spring to early summer. You can sod almost anytime of year and dod opens you up to using Emerald, Meyer, etc.
