I'm Korean, and I spent 10 years in Texas from grade 9 to master's. Did I have some unpleasant experiences attributable to my being Asian? Sure. Did I ever feel that these posed a barrier to me doing what I wanted with my life? Not once.

My parents are from Iraq, which is in Asia. My brother applied to college as Asian, to be funny and literal, 20 years ago, and was rejected from a certain college known for its admission practices. He reapplied as a Caucasian which is also accurate and got in.
The worst teacher I ever had was a social justice teacher in college. A black fella who was obsessed with affirmative action. He hated me. I was the only person in the class that called it out, asked him why I'm not dark enough for privilege but I'm not white enough for privilege. Shortly thereafter America invaded my parents Homeland. For the second time. I wish I knew who Thomas Sowell was back then.

He says you cannot have multiculturalism because it does not work, you absolutely can have a multiethnic country, but all the ethnicities must be second under a national identity. If you loose this, your country will be torn apart because you can’t serve too many competing interests, which is what multiculturalism tries to do. In the US, we have wanted to celebrate all cultures in the name of diversity that we have failed to serve our common interests, and therefore many regions have large constituents with no interest in America whatsoever, other than what they can use it for.

I like your comment about “what is Asian?” I find it hard to see what Mongolians, Filipinos, and Sikhs have in common. Lumping in Pacific Islanders under the AAPI banner is even stranger. Native Hawaiians and Bangladeshis ... what’s their common culture? This is coming from a half-white, half-Japanese guy. Latin American is of course problematic too as a category because there are many differences between countries and even regions, but at least you could say they have the Spanish language (except for Brazil) and Catholicism in common, as well as the history of Spanish and Portuguese colonization. But even then, there’s a ton of differences ...

I think a much bigger issue is that people quantify things with all Asians and attribute the wrong cultures towards certain success. The Asian- American per capita GDP is spiked by Indian, Taiwanese, and Filipino Americans who tend to go into high grossing fields like Business, Healthcare, and Tech. What people typically think of as Asian are Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans who are closer to the US per capita GDP.
For instance, people come to the conclusion that cram schools and over studying are the keys to success. They ignore the Indian and Filipino culture where children are raised with multiple other families of similarly aged children. Or they come to the conclusion that the tech field is where the money is, but ignore that Filipinos have a lot of success in nursing and Indians in small businesses.

Problematic? You could always simply choose a different lens and make such statements about any group. It's not at all morally obvious why it is preferable or even necessary to highlight differences over commonalities. In the case of Latin Americans, they call themselves that, so clearly have a shared cultural consciousness to some degree. I agree with what you say about "Asians", though, despite the label, almost no one seems to actually confuse some of those wildly differing civilizations.

I disagree, while such students shouldn't have to repeatedly prove to everyone they made it on their own steam, that added trial can be overcome. Yes it's unfair to them, but life is like that in the big bad world. The minority student who is mismatched into attending a college where they then suffer the anguish of failure or finishing at the bottom of their class seems far more damaging. Worse some colleges water down their standards to keep failure rates in check by providing a lower quality of education to all students. Equality by reduction to the lowest denominator.😱

Asian Americans are a beautiful and easy going poeple. If I seen a hate crime happening against a Asian id get involved. You guys are more than welcome here and most Americans will speak up for you.

around 32 minutes, interviewer asks (paraphrasing) [you self-describe as being rebellious ... is that something in your nature? or were there experiences that led you to that?] and Melissa goes into her Methodist upbringing...
What I see as a tendency of free-thinkers and the liberty minded is that they have a very strong distaste for hypocrisy of authority. Respect for authority is not something given simply for the sake of an authority figure or system. In fact, there is often an underlying distrust of it ... because "people" are the ones in positions of authority ... and people are still self-motivated. "Altruism of authority" is exceedingly rare (if not an outright myth) ... individual liberty and respect for exchange of ideas from bottom up not rules and structures sent from top down is a much better way to go.

I spoke my mind in a history class as a fifteen year old kid in nineteen eighty six, and a predominantly protestant white school , In particular I questioned whether or not the constitution had ever actually been enacted Directly spoke about slavery and The desecration of the indigenous populations , Practically lived on the reservations as a small child , I talked about how originally a slave cost about a hundred thousand dollars , And that they would probably take him care of like you with a Tractor , When they started breeding slaves the price got cheap . I also mentioned how the living conditions for many slaves in the beginning was probably better than many children in great britain at the same time , That the real evils likely began When there was a surplus of slaves , And that the greatest crime That they committed as when they began selling their children , They decided that I was getting permission And then I needed to be Taught a lesson , Showing my place , I was drugged with a Cardio Toxin My heart stopped no breathing hypoxia ,brain damage Then I was given an injunction of a crystalline Anphetamine , It Hit my central nervous system Traumatizing it Producing the same results that happened when young men are hung from trees And their necks are broken , About seventy five percent of the mood ejaculate involuntarily , This is how my child was sold to a prominent african american woman and the entertainment industry , Operatives in the central intelligence agency of course were involved , This was done to create potential contention and strive racially and use me As the center Peace And there game of Geodesic Chess , Prior to that they had had me homosexually contractually assaulted , Using my half brother on my Mother's side To Luer me out in the middle of the night To a convenience market he was working at , He was on the phone with him He was just dying to become a man after serving in the marines And getting dumped by his wife and alienated from his daughter , He must have felt less than zero , How powerful this must have made him feel , I knew that they killed the children afterwards When the fear of what they've done where's off , My father worked in special education on the reservations part of his training was severely emotionally disturbed , I did what I had 2 to survive as a fourteen year old child , I needed to make the assailant believe that I was compliant If I wanted to live , Shortly after making this history teacher look like the baffoon that he was It wasn't hard to do , There was an attempt on my life by the things police department , The other kid was murdered ride in front of me with thirty eight long barrel , When I came back to school unaware of what had happened He said to me it was not god you got lucky . It's kind of hard to have respect for your others When they're all a bunch of bumpling the funds and idiots , Not to mention child raping Child murderers Who have completely corrupted any system of justice , Apparently this was all in relation to my despotism Maybe my narcissism too , Our maybe it just had to do with the fact that they forced me to take showers with the other boys . This would only be the beginning of the violence , The other kid's body had been wrapped in plastic His head beaten with a hammer Stabbed thirty two times in satanic leaves carved in the body , The body had also been sodomized , They dompted in the dumpster behind the library , The one that I had suggested they rent one of the office spaces , It was a good idea , Apparently slaves are not allowed to read books , I was known to always have a book in my hand , God knew that I was never going to get an education in one of their institutions , The third kid had been shot through the head with a thirty magnum , I was out on the trails behind nasmaramare airbase Top gun school , I caught through the form exchange college together They must have been the ones who radioed in my position , There would be a fourth homicide on their territory later , I was standing right there when it happened , Could not see my hand in front of my face Because I was hallucinating so hard From the drug that had been slipped to me , I could hear it , The other kid was from a prominent family In italy , It was the winter time, so my skin was very fair because it can get very dark , The last time they had seen me and my skin was very dark I had been training for the Iron man , They grabbed on to the wrong kid Police department was Corrupt Hardly a new one , The one who was shot through the head on the tank trails I heard a voice in my head tell me to cross with the underbrush I had learned how to listen to the voice now , I got to the bottom of the dip in the hill where I was out of sight with the individual who called out my name I realized now With a thirty eight longborough strap to the side , I disappeared and the other kid came over the other side of the hill , I can tell over thirty of these stories . Many of them involve promption in police department in the Federal government . You're a born rubble because you have a sun moon opposition amongst Other placements , My yes is your problems are mostly with certain kinds of men . Pretty typical of these marks . I don't really like.them either ,

With respect, she is not a violence or behavioral expert and thus has no expertise on speaking on this issue. There are many experts who can speak on this and have data and to explain the nuances. Dr Bandy X Lee is one such example, but there are plenty of social psychologists who can explain this too. The term "wokeness" was created by social media hashtags and trendy culture and then used by online influencers as an explanation for the divide in socio-political spheres. Again, these thinkers often do not have the expertise to even critique culture. Dr Ipek Burnett is an example of an actual expert on socio-cultural issues through the lens of depth psychology, not Joe Rogan etc.

A personal acquaintance, who is a retired, successful businesswoman, of Chinese descent, bemoaned the violence and crime of BLM protestors during the past summer, but didn't care when it happened to Trump supporters, INCLUDING elderly persons. But, now? Suddenly she is deeply worried and angry over "violence against Asians". She tried to goad me into selective moral outrage, but I brought up how horrible it is when the elderly, period, are attacked and battered. She didn't care. It's only about Asians, and actually, "Chinese", who are THE true Asians in her ethnic hierarchy. FWIW: She's an American, with her ancestry having been here for four generations, doesn't know much about Chinese culture at all.

"Asian" or "Asian-American" makes absolutely no sense as a racial category. West Asians, South Asians, and East Asians are clearly _not_ one race.
"Asian/Pacific Islander" is even more absurd.
