I confronted my elderly mother when she said something about not being a feminist. Yes, she told me as a child that the ERA(US:equal rights amendment ) was about making boys and girls use the same restrooms. However, this was the same woman who worked, despite being ‘an officer’s wife’ when it was frowned upon to do so. She was the same woman who fought her school so female teachers not only got paid the same salary for training and experience, but could do bus duty and get the extra pay, just like the men. She supported having the first female principal. She was/is the strongest, smartest, leader in our family, despite my father being a military officer. She fought for us to have the same opportunities in school as the boys, so the girls could take double science classes instead of child development or home economics.(she drew the line at shop😢). So, I argued, just like those who drink and smoke and then tell their kids don’t do this, she should be surprised she raised ‘radical’ feminists. She could say she was against feminism all she wanted, but through her actions and deeds she had raised all her children to respect the authority and rights of women and had shown them exactly how to be feminists!😂❤
