That is contrasted with the always slightly inebriated or stoned version of "Showman Dave" the world is used to seeing over the decades. I feel the same way Howard Stern always races to stay ahead of his guests unless it's somebody like God or Paul McCartney. He interrupts his guests at the worst possible times; just as Dave was about to lay down an inside scoop Howard changes the subject...
His mind is just racing so hard and he is barely catching up. But he makes it somehow although lots of people just think he doesnt make sense. If you listen carefully - he makes perfect sense.
Come on, he's clearly a complete narcissist and treated the other guys in the band like he was their superior. Just because you can come across well in an interview means shit, narcissists always know how to charm others when they want to.
I saw Dave three years later after this at the HOB in Myrtle Beach, SC. playing solo with his makeshift band. He barely had any hair and it was white long hair, and when he jumped off the drum riser to kick into another song I noticed three strands of hair jumped off his head landing on the stage. No joke!
The commercial segues for Howard Stern show on E! is as nostalgic as listening to the stories about Van Halen. I feel so damn old I’ve for sure seen this when it happened and totally forgot it.
DLR is a smart man, intellect way beyond a normal person has. Maybe he's a little too smart sometimes. I always thought Sammy was the more egotistical one. Dave's ego is played up for the public because that's his persona, it's funny. He's made comments many times referring to rock n' roll as professional wrestling. Deep down he's a very kind, introverted and humble guy. The average fan doesn't understand that.
Van Halen doesn't need Hagar...and Hagar certainly doesn't need them...The brothers and Dave? Well...I think that they really DO need each other.Neither of them are the same without the other. Now,if the brothers would only call Mikey and fucking apologize!
Nobody aged harder than Eddie Van Halen in that period between 1995 and 1996. He went from looking really healthy, to being all thin and sickly looking.
"Eat em and Smile" and several of the records that followed were way cooler than any Hagar Van Halen albums, save 5150. Featuring the talents of Jason Becker, Billy Sheehan, and Steve Vai....it was fresh Dave had tons of solo success throughout the latter half of the 80's.
The most annoying thing about Howard Stern and Robin is how they ask a question and then try to answer it for the guest. Don't tell DLR what he "must have felt" or presume to know what he was thinking. The purpose of having a guest -- not just a running monologue -- is to hear what the guest has to say without jumping on every third word.
He's pushing guests to clarify positions and beliefs about certain topics. The reason you find him annoying is not only because you're stupid, but you also fail to understand why Howard is one of the greatest interviewers of all time due to that exact "Annoyance".
"You guys are used to guests that have nothing to say" Classic Dave and spot on.
He's so bright. All day for DLR.

Dave always gives an amazing interview.
He should never have left Van Halen. But he did
He was fired for not being able to sing properly
Roger Seebald No he wasn’t. He was the leader of that band...look it all up.
They didn't want to play "California Girls." So he had to do it solo..
I don't personally know David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar.... I have seen them both in numerous interviews on tv, they are both highly intelligent men....
Eddie Van Halen and band made great decisions to form a union with both of these men.... Everybody made money, people like me enjoy their music still today..... Thank you to all of these talented people who gave us years of awesome music and songs which stick to our souls....
David lee roth has that whole bill murray thing going on, i saw roth in an interview with the guy that always wore those suspenders, larry king, all I can say is david lee roth knows how to turn that killer eye look on. Deadly.
It was so unfair how Eddie essentially used Dave to give the greatest hits record gravitas. Dave was so pumped here, not knowing the ax would fall
I wish they'd just ask a question and listen a let dave talk.
I feel the same way Howard Stern always races to stay ahead of his guests unless it's somebody like God or Paul McCartney.
He interrupts his guests at the worst possible times; just as Dave was about to lay down an inside scoop Howard changes the subject...
Shepherdsons & Grangerfields reference reference without missing a beat! Dave's mind is rapid fire sharp. He also has integrity & class in abundance.
Dave Rocks, PERIOD!
Van Halens first album changed the entire sound of Rock & Roll music, EPIC.
not necessarily for the better
This is gold... I want to go back further to Howard's Philly/NY WYSP radio show in the 80s and find audio clips of Dave's first app then
Diamond Dave Rules!!!!!
love Diamond Dave's literary ref's 🤪
" ...we may turn on you like Sinatra after his third Martini!"
Gold!
Shine on Dave!
Dave is the personalization of being so smart he’s encroaching on crazy. Love the guy
His mind is just racing so hard and he is barely catching up. But he makes it somehow although lots of people just think he doesnt make sense. If you listen carefully - he makes perfect sense.
Not saying Dave was sinless but I think he was more mature than the VH brothers.
@Dr. Cultys Horror Movie Collection I wonder where! :)
@Dr. Cultys Horror Movie Collection It was the guy in the red suit trying to recruit Rudolph to lead the sleigh.
Yes Dave definitely was more mature!
You obviously didn’t see Dave acting an ass on the MTV walk out reunion.
@@sandragonyea3188 Not on the MTV reunion. He acted like a complete idiot.
Dave is a good guy. He just talks a lot.
sczrz he's extremely intelligent and seems kind too
LoL
Come on, he's clearly a complete narcissist and treated the other guys in the band like he was their superior. Just because you can come across well in an interview means shit, narcissists always know how to charm others when they want to.
@@zootsoot2006 big RIP to eddie, but you just described evh
the two new songs with DLR were incredible
I saw Dave three years later after this at the HOB in Myrtle Beach, SC. playing solo with his makeshift band. He barely had any hair and it was white long hair, and when he jumped off the drum riser to kick into another song I noticed three strands of hair jumped off his head landing on the stage. No joke!
What does that matter?
7:40 - 7:56 What a meaningful wonderful comment Dawid, Shalom to you!
The commercial segues for Howard Stern show on E! is as nostalgic as listening to the stories about Van Halen. I feel so damn old I’ve for sure seen this when it happened and totally forgot it.
DLR holding court and schooling Howard on his own show and stealing it, slaying it, with no mercy with minimal effort. Master
03:10 - Gotta (also) love him for his confidence!! 👍
Diamond Dave was on point throughout..
All i’m asking for is one more Van Halen album with DLR on vocals!!!!
David Lee Roth is my favorite front man. He is not the best singer but how entertaining he is!
Great man Dave
He knew his worth
Didn't go nuts with drugs Eddie did
'Well yeah that's the beauty of Van Halen ya know? We can turn on ya just like Frank Sinatra after his 3rd Martini'! Priceless.
Very impressive Huck Finn reference.
Roth with the Zappa reference. "Telefunken u47..."
I noticed
yup
dave is and will always be the lead singer of van halen period
BS.
Sammy's way better singer Has a way more Success with them can play guitar really well Obviously you can't Distinguish talent.
Van Halen doesn't need Hagar...and Hagar certainly doesn't need them...The brothers and Dave? Well...I think that they really DO need each other.Neither of them are the same without the other.
Now,if the brothers would only call Mikey and fucking apologize!
Same here. He sounds very reasonable in the majority of his old interviews.
I love david.hes fun.the rest of van halen was too serious
Nobody aged harder than Eddie Van Halen in that period between 1995 and 1996. He went from looking really healthy, to being all thin and sickly looking.
"Eat em and Smile" and several of the records that followed were way cooler than any Hagar Van Halen albums, save 5150. Featuring the talents of Jason Becker, Billy Sheehan, and Steve Vai....it was fresh Dave had tons of solo success throughout the latter half of the 80's.
Wrong
No. Dave's solo career was pop music and a lot of cover tunes. Completely different from original VH.
Very cool 😎
The most annoying thing about Howard Stern and Robin is how they ask a question and then try to answer it for the guest. Don't tell DLR what he "must have felt" or presume to know what he was thinking. The purpose of having a guest -- not just a running monologue -- is to hear what the guest has to say without jumping on every third word.
thank you. when you interview you gotta shut the F up sometimes
He's pushing guests to clarify positions and beliefs about certain topics. The reason you find him annoying is not only because you're stupid, but you also fail to understand why Howard is one of the greatest interviewers of all time due to that exact "Annoyance".
@@prezidenttrump5171 hahahahahahaha. ok, Prez. Trump. hahahahaha
Even though you're a beta male with shit for brains, I'm glad we can agree on the facts.
President: I like that!! Very well done
Dave is so straight and Great ..... glad they Shared the last 13 years .... so cool this guy ... like Sinatra After his third Martini ....
DLR is a very entertaining, matter of fact person with a great sense of humor. It seems nothing fazes him. And a classic air sign.
