    I said to myself the other day that when and if I buy a used Martin I want to buy it from Jeremy Sheppard! Now you got me looking at Gallagher as well!! I'm going to need another room for my guitars here soon!!

    Those guitars sound great. It's nice to see an owner, who can actually play a guitar, too. Beautiful instruments.

    Earlier in the summer, a friend of mine invited me to perform for a fundraiser for WMTS (MTSU Radio). They were using Gallagher Guitars as one of the venues, and I got to perform there with one of their G-45's (D-18-style). David also kindly showed us around the shop. One of my favorite experiences playing music, and they build a mean guitar.

    Watching that was very moving to see the obvious love those folks have for building guitars. Even if I could buy one of these I am afraid I wouldn't deserve it. Love the video Jeremy. Thank you for posting.

    I have a wonderful guitar collection but there was one hole that I've been waiting to fill, taking my time over several years, I turned over every stone in the hunt for a "boutique built" acoustic, enjoying every moment of the search. I'd certainly heard of Gallagher but am not a country or bluegrass player and that seemed to be the company's niche. Still, I believe that a guitar is a guitar and a well-built "bluegrass guitar" would be no different than any other well-built guitar...it can be many things depending upon who's driving. In the spring of this year, I checked-in with one of my favorite shops, the Fretted Buffalo, in Buffalo, New York, a brand new Gallagher dealer and a shop that carries eleven of the best brands in the business. I never played the guitar but purchased an Appalachian over sinker SG-50, a round shouldered, 25 1/2" scale design with an enlarged soundhole. I don't typically put too much emphasis on video sound clips, but since I'd chosen a guitar that I wouldn't be able to first play, I went by the spec's, intuition, and the shop's videos of not only the SG-50, but a couple of other guitars I'd been interested in for a long time. There was a distinct difference (and many nuances that had the guitar winning my little shootout). I pulled the trigger and, after having the guitar for a few months, am completely enamored with its build, playability, and tone. What a guitar!
    To anyone considering the purchase of an expensive guitar built by a smaller (boutique) company, I strongly urge you to look at Gallagher as a top-tier option that can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Collings, Bourgeois. SCGC, Lowden, Boucher, and others too many to list. For me personally, my new SG-50 is the best all-around performer that I own or have ever played. And it's pure eye candy!
    Thank you for putting together such an insightful and well thought-out video of your new digs in Murfreesboro. I'm sure that I'll eventually get around to visiting and look forward to that day!

    Edit: 12:30 Sapele. The G-50 on the website has the unmistakable 'ribbony' sapele. Topped with cedar or spruce, sapele fires the sound right back out at you. Hard.

    Cool video!
    7:58 now I know why my guitar has that stripe (that we talked about in your Instagram live)
    There was a knot in the wood where (I think) water seeped in, and that stained the wood.

    Nice guitar! I wonder if Gallagher's warranty covers neck re-sets.. As the original owner of a 74 D-35, Martin covered the cost of my neck reset, many years ago. I was shocked and surprised to recently hear that their "Lifetime" warranty no longer does so. So, what manufacturers now cover neck re-sets as a warranty item? My understanding is a neck re-set can cost over $800, so this is a serious concern for players.

    What about Gurian guitars? Gurian was a premier wood buyer in the US for many years so the guitars he built should be made of some of the choicest woods available at the time.

    Jeremy what exactly went on with the original Gallagher Guitars? Was there not a change of ownership? What exactly is the current situation?

    • @JeremySheppard
      @JeremySheppard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A lot of that explanation will be in the longer video for patrons, but the gist of it is this, David found out that Gallagher was closing and he offered to buy them. After purchasing the name and a lot of tools, he moved the shop to Murfreesboro and resumed construction. The quality definitely waned according to them, and now, from my experience, is really good.

    I've never heard of Gallagher guitars. The thumbnail doesn't make them look all that good though. "built in 1976 and on its third neck". I have a couple of Gibsons. A '67, and one from the early to mid '70s. They both still have their original necks. And they've had hard lives too. Much abuse from various sources. I couldn't afford to get a new neck every 20 years or so. Maybe they should build a better neck.

    I'm sorry. but the camera work was to bad, I just couldn't watch it through, I started getting sea sick, nice instruments and talented people, but surely, couldn't you get a professional to do the filming and direction ? I had to fast forward, and there was the back of the bloke playing this extrordinary instrument, all I could see was his shirt ! I thought that was weird.
