Great for the die-hard RAT1 lovers. It is nice to see a company listen to the users and still bring value.
There was a recent limited run of the manual RAT 1 with a D2 blade. Now if Ontario would bring out a RAT 1A w/ D2 . . . *drool* . . .

Ontario....."PLEASE" offer the manual RAT 1 with G 10. (VG-10 or 154 CM steel would be nice too,..but I don't want to push it.)
The Rat 1A spring assist is currently $44 includes shipping on Amazon. Inexpensive enough to buy one, try it out and compare it to the Rat 1 manual non spring assist if you have one. You can always sell it for $40 if you are unhappy. No great loss.
I was on the fence when I got mine ... not sure if it was worth the (almost) $20 premium I paid over the original version, but I like it anyhow. I would definitely pick up another one though, if they offer it in different color G10 scales, like the original. A stonewash blade would be a pretty sweet option too.
Here in Canada I could only find a rat 1 for 40 - 48 CAD while the rat 1a I found for 57CAD. So the extra 10 CAD wasn't all that much more for g10 + assisted. It's a shame our prices are inflated and the currency conversion rate is low.
Love the Esee Avispa and RAT 1 but I really wish they had flippers
I had a RAT 1A and after medium use the blade became off center when folded and it was harder to open. I'd go manual on this knife in the future.
Having had both and the 1a being my current edc. I do like it better
Current pricing is now a $10 difference between the standard rat 1 and the assisted rat 1. On Amazon the OD green with black blade Rat 1 is the same cost as the automatic so eh, guess if you wanted to spend more its about colors or functionality.
God. I love the Ontario RAT 1, my only real issue with it is that it always disappears. Haha

not sure why anyone would want an "assisted" RAT my RAT1 D2 opens with such force it almost has a recoil and a "thwack" sound that can be heard by neighbors but i wont knock it until i try it thanks
Love the G10. Assisted opening - nonsense, the manual opens equally fast.
I wonder what Ontario could do to make it clearer whether the safety is On or Off? Could they have used that if the color green is showing, the knife will open and if the color red is showing, the knife will not open? In the US for stoplights, green means go as the knife will open and red means stop as the knife will not open? Green could also mean "Go", that the safety is on and that the knife will not open. Red also could mean "Stop" as if the knife is ready to open or that the safety is engaged and the knife will not open. Red and Green would not show up to people who are color blind. It appears from a quick search that 4-10% of the male population is red/green color blind. Women are not affected by this condition.
Just remember, everywhere in the WWOOORRRLLLLLD uses red as a signal for danger. You sir, are an idiot if you think that the color scheme is bad for safety on/off. However, the sfaety on THIS knife is just pointless, whatever color it is. But, to answer your question, no, I don't think there is anything wrong with the COLORS the safety. It's just like any gun you would ever pick up. Red means danger.
well the same people that have a problem with this knife can't owe a fire arm either. Red you dead. Same safety set up as most firearms
More parts and assisted is harder to fold ! So it the same operation but harder to use !
Got some neon green Rat 1's coming Monday, so stoked :) No interest at all in the assisted.
the blade can be swap from the D2 model to this model i beleive will be no problem , do you thing is possible
Great review, I like the G10 a lot as for the open assist....eh I think it's more of a gimmick. I'll stick with the original especially considering the price point
My thoughts exactly. I talked with OKC, and they didn't make any promises but a G-10 manual is on their radar.

bought one from blade HQ , biggest piece of shit i ever had ! right out of the box the saftey was no good !
