Now Pokemon is a verse that's incredibly popular and has a lot of adaptations ranging from games, mangas and anime. Today I'm going to be talking about the Main Pokemon Anime and how the main character, Ash Ketchum has probably the most plot induced losses ive ever seen. If you guys watch me you already know i HATE just saying something is bad because of plot but god damn these losses are so scuffed. And i'm not just talking about this (charizard vs ash greninja), or this (pikachu vs snivy) we’ll get to this. The first really bad L he takes in my opinion is in the Johto League as the other ones before that were pretty justified, Ash by this point usually loses due to experience and most of the time he does come back and get the W fair and square. But bro, his Johto League Loss to me undermines pretty much most of what we went through since the beginning of the series. Gary Oak is Ash Ketchum's Rival and throughout the story he constantly is either one step ahead of him or just mocks him, and when we see him defeat him in a head on battle on some Red vs Blue shit you kinda were expecting Ash to win. But no because Blaziken is a pokemon Ash locks knowledge of, and it using Flamethrow to cushions the damage from seismic toss, it would defeat charizard with a fucking blaze kick. This to me felt really lame since the main reason for it was so Ash could just go to the next region with this mysterious Pokemon but like bro, YOU CAN LITERALLY STILL HAVE HIM EXPLORE THE NEW REGION STARTING OVER AND ALSO GIVE US THE SATISFACTION OF BRO GETTING A REAL W. That Orange Island shit don't mean anything bro GIVE ME SOMETHING REAL. Anyway we then have Ash going through Hoenn where he'd go on to collect yet another 8 badges, enter a league, and come just a little short due to a dudes Mewoth being stronger than Pikachu, who by the way is just as boring as the last guy who beat Ash so there we go. But to be honest Ash's Hoenn team in general was lacking and they would become actually goated in Battle Frontier. Ash, despite taking two L’s to Brandon did end up doing well in those fights and managed to win in the last one. Which to me is why i fuck with Battle Frontier alot just because Ash goes back to his home region and defeats him with the main team that started it all. Along with giving us a lot of old pokemon back in the battles against the other frontier brains. Anyway, after taking this glorious W he would get a little cocky and challenge Gary only to get destroyed by his electivire. After Ash takes this L he'd go on to travel to Sinnoh where he'd take his worst Ls yet. Mainly from Paul who throughout the season was just a step ahead of Ash and after Ash gets one of his pokemon after he releases it , that being Chimchar. As we all know that boy would fight Paul as a Chimchar Monferno and Infernape, with him beating him in a more satisfying way than when he fought Gary. By this point, you think Ash is going to win this league right? Not only did he just beat his strongest rival, but his entire team up to this point have all gone through arcs of their own and are now iconic to Ashes roster. He also could have just used some of his previous pokemon since they would be useful like Staraptor or Infernape. Ash could have 100% had a better approach with this guy especially since he's fought legendaries before but the fact that this guy never shows up again to me as well just seems really corny. And it's funny since we find out Cynthia remains the champion? Like why did you even create this character? And it gets even worse since after this bullshit loss, it somehow hits Ash's brain and he becomes a dumb ass in the next season. Well technically the quality of the writing gets better since XYZ the entire way through thankfully is not unbearable and has Ash going through a pretty interesting arc with the pokemon Greninja, who would go on to just barely lose against Alans Charizard, the guy we saw in that one special about mega evolution which to me is just another knife to my god damn chest. It isn't as annoying as Diamond and Pearl because it's not like Alan is some random guy that comes out of nowhere but like, Ash literally had every reason to win that league especially given that these two part ways. Which to me would've just hit all the right notes for Greninjas Departure. Now Ash wins the Alola league but to be honest this is where I kinda tuned out for the anime and only vaguely kept up with it. I did watch the league fights however and I just gotta say Rowlett should NOT have won that shit bruh.

Tobias was the player character
The loss to Alain felt right because we had those episodes with Alain and he was scraping with champions and legendaries like no one’s business. He was beating back Steven stone, and he gave Zygarde (only 50%) a run for its money.
These two were equals.
Yeah, while Alain was scraping against the Elite 4, Ash was also holding his own against the champion.
But it still pisses me off because Alain won everytime him and Ash fought, so it felt like they were building up Ash's cathartic victory in the finals. But that wasn't meant to be.

Nah, the Sabrina fight was some bs. Gen 1 anime didn't really get how Gym Leaders were supposed to be and turned Sabrina into an actual horror villain.

As a HARDCORE XY/XYZ fan I say that Alan's W makes sense. This Charizard was fighting Mega Evolutions back to back, Champions and Legendaries. Not to mention he had is own reasons for wanting to win

Alain looked like he was gonna lose. The look of panic in his eyes when he saw that final water shuriken before telling his charizard to use blast burn of all moves, really bad me thinking he was gonna lose. Greninja was winning that fight and lost to plot armor

@@michaela6425 Greninja hit Sceptile twice with aerial ace and then finished it with a gigantic water shuriken. That made sense. Despite what you think, trainers in that anime tale type advance into consideration. Alain telling Charizard to use Blast Burn, especially after the one he used earlier was negated, was a bad move, and shouldn’t have given him the win

The loss to Alain was the most acceptable in my opinion because we've seen what he can do. He was rubbing shoulders with Elite Four members and even gave Steven Stone a fight. The problem was all the hype surrounding Ash winning the Kalos League to where the Japanese episode eluded to Ash winning.

To be fair to Ash vs Alain, it’s not like Ash was fighting a normal trainer or a cheater like Tobias.
Hell I’d say Alain was way stronger than Tobias since his Charizard had been running the mega evolution gauntlet the entire series, even whooping elite four members and squaring up to the Primordial Godlike legendaries.
Still salty about the loss but I can’t deny that it was legit, and still one of the best battles in the series.
Definitely hope you do more Pokemon content cause this was a blast.
I actually don’t mind his Kalos loss. This is the same Alain that ran a gauntlet of megas including all of the Elite 4, fought Steven’s Mega Metagross to a standstill, and combated/held off all 3 Primals. It’s just really impressive that it was even that close to begin with. All the other ones I do have some issues with though.
Kanto: Ash didn’t even win half of his badges fair and square. I am 100% fine with him losing this.
Johto: random ass character introduction to show what Hoenn has to offer. Ash just beat his rival with a clutch with Charizard who had a disadvantage against Blastoise, only to lose to a damn Blaziken who had pretty much only Fire type moves and had a disadvantage?? This was pretty tame though.
Hoenn: Ash’s team was kinda under powered; no Sceptile, no Crawdaunt, and Torkoal was kinda ass, ngl. Pikachu losing to Meowth of all things really irked me.
Sinnoh: I honestly hate this one the most. Ash just came back from probably his most important win yet, and lose to a fucking Action Replay trainer. What the hell was with his selection, though? Torkoal?? GIBLE!? Of all his Pokémon he chose fucking Gible??
Unova: This series (at least the first half) was just mid asf. Ash became a probably bigger idiot than himself in Kanto. Trip just wanted to be Paul so badly, and I really hate Cameron. His final battle against Cameron was mid as well, but him losing to Cameron was complete BS. Firstly, Cameron was almost late to the damn battle and was about to be disqualified. Not only was he late, but he only brought 5 Pokémon instead of 6. Granted one of them was a Hydreigon, but the rest of his team was ass. Somehow, his baby Riolu beat Ash’s Unfezant, and then he gets a plot armor evolution to Lucario, and just sweeps the rest of his team. I’m personally a bit of a Unova defender, but I can’t defend this. I guess go be fair to this, Ash’s team was complete garbage. He didn’t even use Krokorok/Krookodile in this fight. Just fuck this fight.

@@jschannel6319 The series is overall very well written. Ash is more intelligent than ever before. Trip isn't remotely similar to Paul, that's a very surface level comparison. With that logic, Paul is trying hard to be Gary. Cameron and his battles and outcome are wonderful, just because he's not 'raw' doesn't mean it's not good. Especially when it serves the story, its characters and its thematic purpose. And Ash's team is wonderful and did a great job.
@@natalimoina more intelligent than ever before? Ash vs Elesa: he forgets his Snivy’s gender and tries to use Attract on a female Emolga, also using a Snivy against an Emolga. He let Pikachu forget Volt Tackle for fucking Electro Ball. He brings only one Pokemon (Palpitoad) to fight Elesa initially and expected to win. And I can go on. On Trip, he acts exactly like Paul. They were both smug assholes to Ash and look down on him although Paul was a bit meaner than Trip. They both gave him big losses with Paul at Lake Acuity and Trip with his BRAND NEW Snivy defeating Ash’s Pikachu (and don’t give the excuse that Zekrom weakened him) Ash still should have won that battle. And Paul is way more different to Gary than Trip is to Paul. During Kanto, Gary was over the top and snarky whereas Paul was always more serious, calculating and just mean to pretty much everyone (especially Ash).
And you gotta be trolling with Cameron vs Ash being wonderful. Cameron didn’t even have 8 badges and Ash had to take him to battle Marlon. Cameron then thinks the Unova League was in fucking JOHTO. He then thinks the league was a 5v5 and brings 5 Pokemon to a 6v6. And this battle just became a Riolu/Lucario sweep with it beating Ash’s Unfezant as a Riolu, almost losing to Snivy and getting an asspull evolution to Lucario, and proceeding to beat Snivy and Pikachu. And Ash for some godforesaken reason doesn’t use Krokorok/Krookodile in this battle either. And this battle ended horribly, because Ash actually regressed in ranking here where he makes only the top 8 instead of the top 4 like Sinnoh or further. This wasn’t even a satisfying loss, because Cameron proceeds to get no diffed by an Eeveelution team. Ash’s team is fucking ass here, wdym??? He only had 1 fully evolved Pokemon in Unfezant and the rest were not fully evolved or even evolved at all. And 3 fully Pokemon in Unova overall with Leavanny, Krookodile and Unfezant. And Ash didn’t learn anything from this loss. He had this in the bag, and still lost. I’ll admit Tobias was still worse than Cameron, but Ash legit should have beaten Cameron. Tobias was just using an Action Replay. It also sucks because Cameron was introduced pretty late into Unova whereas Trip was the main rival of Unova and he lost pretty early in the League.
And yes, Pikachu lost to an Elekid at the beginning of Sinnoh, but he couldn’t use Electric Attacks due to Motor Drive, and also Paul was already pretty experienced as a trainer there, whereas Trip was just starting his journey.

Using a Snivy against Emolga is his style he excels in, so that's smart. Electro ball is better than Volt tackle so that checks out. There's a reason he only brings 1 pokemon to Elesa, but I'm sure you didn't actually pay attention watching BW, so you wouldn't get it. You can go on making things up. Sure, why not. Trip acts nothing like Paul. Again, only on extremely extremely surface level. And Gary is the same. You don't look deeper at the characters, which is sad. Not even slightly deeper, which should be clear to anyone. Also you ignore context of episodes, proving you just listen to whatever ytubers tell you. Pikachu did not lose to Snivy, that's misinformation.
Cameron vs Ash is amazing, but people like you don't really understand pokemon and its depth and only want 'rawness' and immaturity. Ash getting a lower ranking is literally a key part of the story and arc Ash goes through, but I'm sure you didn't pay attention to that either. Ash's team is factually amazing. Evolved doesn't mean better. This isn't the games. Have you watched a single episode of the anime ever? He did learn actually, you just miss all the story and depth. And Trip losing early is also a key part of the plot and shows how the writers actually care about a proper in depth story rather than just 'being cool'. Ash didn't lose to Trip, Pikachu collapsed of exhaustion from trying to use an electric move in his state.
Few people remember that before receiving his current GOAT status, Ash was legit the laughing stock of the whole Pokémon community.

Honestly I guess I can agree. They should have made Gary have the Blaziken to beat him as Ash fighting Gary in a way that maybe he deems unfair and chooses between 2 Pokeballs eventually deciding to win on power that isn't his own maybe would probably have made this feel more real.

They needed to do 2 things one they can't do anymore and the other they can still do.
1: They should have foreshadowed Tobias by having rumors of a Trainer who might even be stronger than the Champion and rumors of a Trainer who holds Legendary Pokemon. Then we saw a Heatran in that one thing talk about that guys match having his whole team decimated by one Mon (Darkrai).
And 2: Make him return in the Future.
I know Ash may not longer be the Protaganist and I'm fine with that I hope Pokemon can change and evolve but honestly we need the Get back against Tobias badly.

It's not LEVEL 5.

I think there is never any confirmation that Snivy was Level 5 only that it was its first Battle at least under a trainer.
They could have grown levels through their past and I think this theory is reinforced because the next time we see the fucker I think they are evolved and then AGAIN Maybe we see Servine twice but then boom Serperior.
Pikachu's Nerf from Zekrom was kinda like a Poison so that's why they were so low in speed which prevented Quick attack from really hitting and them from being at 100%.
I think its way better than people believe it to be because Memes are too strong.

You should make a video ranking all of Ash's Pokemon from weakest to strongest. I would love to see you make more videos like this
The writers panicked so hard with Sinnoh. They thought Ash's journey cannot continue, if he wins, so just had him lose and reset him completely. It would have been perfect if his journey ended at Sinnoh. I love a lot of the later seasons. But Ash even brought his whole team to Sinnoh, it would have been amazing to see him mix up his various teams and win the whole thing, with the final against Paul being with his Sinnoh team.
If they wanted a naive trainer in Unova again, the whole thing could have been about Iris, and her journey towards becoming Champion. It would have worked. But okay.
We need a vid on Ash's Pikachu. Its either he's the gost for a region or he on fraud watch. Kanto, Hoenn, Unova Pikachu was getting cooked but in the other regions Pikachu was top 1 goat.

Ash's loss to Cameron was even more unfair than Tobias. At least Tobias had heavy hitters. Cameron didn't have a full party and was an idiot... and Ash still lost.

It goes a long way to prove to kids that you're not always going to win. Whether you aren't ready, or someone's better than you, or some bullsheet knocks you down at the last minute. Being a winner- no. Being the very best doesn't mean that victory is going to be assured, but it means that victory is ALWAYS possible and in your reach if you get back up again and try, even after you lose. It doesn't have to be right away, but it's the will to stand up on your feet eventually.
This is why Ash is DA 🐐.
I really wonder why they never brought back or mentioned Tobias in Journeys. Considering how op he was. Hell the fact he 2 legendaries and he’s not even in mentioned or in the top 5 is baffling.

Nah, Ash wasn't near Alains level in XY, Alains feats involve (beating 10 mega evolution pokemon in a row with no rests or breaks + Elite 4 Malva at the end, fighting Primal Groudon, fighting Mega Rayquaza, Stopping Zygarde, and getting Steven Stone to say that Alain has enough power to beat him, not saying Alain would beat him straight up, but if he combines his power with strategy then he potentially could), Ash's feats in XY and Z were not close to this

Nah I get wym by ash should’ve won the Kalos league. But u gotta understand in every match and battle ash and Alain fought, Alain won all of them, and not only that but in the xyz Kalos quest specials, we see his mega Charizard go against 50% zygarde, tank an attack from mega rayqauza, and beat down a primal kyogre. It narratively made sense for Alain to win that league. Also for type advantage dragon fire is neutral to water, and ash had by far the worst moves on his greninja😭
Also sun and moons win in the alola league felt more impactful not from a battling standpoint but from a writing one. As the anime wasn’t so much abt travelling place to place and fighting but mainly focused on the characters, places, and history of alola and gave us heartwarming and emotional moments with every character, and that made ash connected to the region as a whole and his departure from it much more emotional. So I think his win in that league felt more justifiable
You are right about Ash’s greninja having the worst moves😆 I’m not gonna lie tho he made Ariel Ace look cool tho 😆 those 2 or 3 hit combos he was using everytime he use that move was nice. I just wish once frogadeer evolved into greninja i wish the move (Cut) was taken and replaced with like Night Slash or something but i think they kept Cut bc everytime Alain used flamethrower in there battles Ash would use Cut too block it so they prob kept it for that specific reason but i feel like Night Slash could’ve did the same thing and even did more damage when using that move, and i wish Double Team was replaced too with smt bc that move was useless as well.😆 Although Double Team was helpful in the battle with Sawyer but still.
@justwooper8660 that is true Alain was fighting against a lot of strong opponents and mega evolution Pokémon’s but Ash also fought against alot of strong opponents as well in kalos. He fought against a mega lucario , mega abomasnow , mega charizard 2wice prior too the last fight in the league , mega absol, mega sceptile , and he even fought against Diantha’s mega gardivoir which he did super well against and maybe would’ve won that if he didn’t pass out after almost gaining full control over greninja’s new powers. Wouldn’t he of won that fight or had a really close shot at beating mega gardivoir? So Ash also had some good experience fighting strong mega evolutions and Diantha is stronger then Alain so almost beating someone who was stronger then Alain, and when Clemont in that one episode was trying too figure out what causes the change for Ash and greninja , Alain showed up and they battled again and Ash almost won that fight as well but again he passed out and that was the fight i feel like Ash should’ve won. Then i wouldn’t of been that upset if he lost in the finals it’s just bc he didn’t beat Alain even once and Ash always would beat his really strong rivals at least once like >> gary and paul but yeah that’s my take on it all.

The Alola League was a novice league that accepts any trainer with no qualifications which undermines Ashs win much more so. Theres also the fact Ash cheated by having an illegal cloak on Rowlet which ended up saving him from disaster against Decidueye.

It's all the fault of the anime writers. At the time, they had this strange idea that the anine can't continue once he wins a league so they went out of their way to make him lose everytime, even going as far as to create the asspull that is Tobias to prevent him from winning in sinnoh when ash was at his best back then. All just so that they could keep on milking the series.
It isn't until the heavy backlash they got at the kalos league that they finally got the message that fans are tired of Ash making it far to the league only to lose to some bullshit everytime. Hence the blame should be put on those in charge of the anime for being greedy af and wanting to milk the anime as long as possible.

Ash cant become champion yet, have him at least face the elite four in kalos. Ash fought diantha twice in kalos, losing once and even standing upto her with greninja before Ash passed out. That is imo is the worst part about ash's loss in kalos. Like until journeys Ash had not beat a single elite four member of any region. Him going through the elite four and just barely coming up short would have been far more satisfying
The closest thing to beating an Elite 4 member was running through the Battle Frontier; the Frontier Brains were all said to be Elite 4 equivalents, which does help his street cred, but I do wish he ended up defeating an official member of a regional league.

Well something i just realized recently is that even if ash won the kalos league, nothing much would change in pokemon sun and moon. The Alola league was never reason Ash was in Alola, he was on vacation and decided to stay to learn about alola. The focus of pokemon sun and moon was never the pokemon league until the third season. So there wouldnt really be any change in the story the planned in sun and moon if Ash had won the Kalos league.

Alain’s Charizard was very powerful. We saw how good he was in his past fights, I can accept Ash’s loss in Kalos since it was too a character that made reoccurring appearances and was shown to be a very skilled trainer
If we view it in its proper context the losses don’t seem as bad.. remember this is all taking place within the span of one year 😂

Small correction cuz I talk with alot people about this. Ash did not have the type advantage against alain, greninja is water dark and charizard X is fire dragon meaning water is neutral. Greninja, to this day has no moves that hit zard x for super effective damage. While Alains charizard doesn't have any moves that ash's greninja super effective either those moves do exist for charizard(thunder punch and multiple fighting type moves). Ash should've won the league in x&y but the charizard matchup was honestly fair.

Nah, bro black & white was the worst at least when he lost he lost competent people but no he lost to a guy that didn't know you need 8 gym badges to entered the league didn't know that match he was in was a six on six but to put the icing on the cake didn't even win the league. And as for sun and moon totally agree, he should not have won that league Hala did his grandson dirty. Nah cause his loss to Harrison makes sense. Ash had been relying way too much on Charizard and Harrison’s Blaziken was his partner so I’d imagine it was getting the kind of experience from usage as Pikachu. Of course that thing would be better. The worst part of the Tyson fight was the Meowth. His team was coming to play otherwise. Sceptile, Metagross, they should’ve just swapped Meowth for a Vigoroth at least. Ash’s fight with Paul and Tobias were both issues cause they did to Paul’s team what they did to Ash vs Tobias. How were only 2 of his Pokémon able to get a ko? If that man had just brought one of Honchkrow, Ursaring, or Magmortar, he would’ve won. If he brought Torterra, Ash’s whole career would’ve been done right then and there. I don’t think Ash having a better team could’ve beaten Tobias but he could’ve gotten further if he wasn’t dumb af. Black/White is a write off, that whole season was horrible. It should’ve been Iris as the main rival who beats him in the end though. Ash never fully recovers from the brain damage he had to start that series but with XY, given what Alain did in the mega special, it would’ve been bullshit if Ash somehow beat that Charizard. Alola is even less of a win than Orange Islands or Battle Frontier, that shit was fed to him on a silver platter and he still had to cheese Hau to win. Journeys as a whole is just so undeserved and forced. Ash makes so many stupid mistakes and how tf is a team he just put together supposed to suddenly beat trainers who’ve almost excluding one shotted almost every fight we’ve seen them in from earlier seasons. Journeys was just plot armour to get rid of him in one of the most obnoxious ways possible
