I grew up with Selena, she's a yr older than me, and I feel like her younger fans don't understand her growth like I do. Like revival made sense to the age and moment in life I was in then and now with Rare, it's the same deal. We both have grown and the songs in Rare relate to my life now. It's why I love it so much. Revelación is an ep that I ADORE!! Im a proud Mexican and this ep was such a beautiful addition to her discography. Im so proud of her and love all the songs. DUV is my all time favorite from the EP.
okay, about the song “feel me” she wrote it while she was on tour for her album “revival” in 2016, and she didn’t release it because she didn’t feel like that anymore, she knows how messed up the lyrics are 😅 but the fans asked her to release it, and she did.
Rare is her most critically acclaimed album Droplet era: bangers + critical acclaim Revival: Her most main stream album (fan favorite) Revelación: Critical acclaim and her first full step into Latin music
I wouldn’t say her most critically acclaimed, it has a cute score on metacritic but Revival is still getting praised to this day and influenced the sound of its time. I don’t see the same happening with Rare.
@@selenagomezacapella rare is more experimental and have better lyrics deserved to be acclaimed revival is just talk a lot more becouse is more mainstream and practically her peek album era (since her best era is probably the doplet era)
@@VaaleBeetancurG - Yes but it’s still realistically speaking the more acclaimed album that lived on. It reignited whisper pop, has made several best of lists beyond its release year, inspired the princess of pop. Last week Rolling Stone called it one of the past decades most influential pop albums. Rare’s acclaim ended and started its release week. But even outside of the acclaim, Rare just feels more childish esque to me personally (Rare, Ring, Fun, Dance Again, Let Me Get Me all sound like songs made for a young demographic). That’s not to say I don’t like it, Vulnerable, A Sweeter Place, Cut You Off & Lose You To Love Me are some of her best.
Also I feel like the lyrics in this album got the point across they’re repetitive sometimes because it’s pop but she wrote mostly everything to the loving herself theme
thankyou so much for this reaction i enjoyed it so so much!! you should check Revival out, i just have a feeling that you'll like it so much better because if Rare was her playing around with different sounds, Revival is lyrically one of her most vulnerable records ever and it's super telling of how her headspace was back then. Feel Me was actually a song she purge-wrote during revival era too, she didn't plan to ever release the song, she sang it a few times during the revival tour and it was only meant to be that, but it became a huge fan favorite and everyone kept asking her to release the official version for years n so although that song doesn't resonate w her anymore, she added it on the deluxe version just for the fans!!
Rare is very different from her other albums. In fact, you shouldn't go into any of her other albums expecting what you heard on Rare. A lot of people actually like her album Revival more because it definitely has songs that are much easier to love. Also, as you see in Rare, Selena doesn't do much with her voice in terms of belting and all that. She stays in a "comfortable" area as an artistic choice because of the whole "peace" idea of the album. Revival has much more versatility when it comes to her vocals as her vocals are definitely more raw on that album than whatever she did on Rare. I definitely feel like you'd enjoy Revival a bit more, so I hope you can react to it in the future. I think people who listen to Rare first in general kind of get the wrong impression of what her other albums will sound like lyrically, sonically, and production-wise, but the truth is that none of her solo albums (Stars Dance, Revival, and Rare) sound like each other at all in any of those aspects. In fact, based on interviews she did, her next album seems like it'll be very different from Rare too. Her other album Stars Dance is heavily EDM-based. If you ever do plan on reacting to Stars Dance, just know that you shouldn't be focusing on the lyrics at all because only one or two of the songs have any deep lyrics.
The fact that she released Feel Me for her fans because they asked and begged for years…shows how much she cares for fans. Since it’s from her Revival era and never got officially released.
I think 'Rare' for Selena was never about her vocals..or the production , she didn't even promote the album a lot. It was more about the lyrics, what she felt, it was her pouring out her truest feelings. She talked about things she never did on her previous albums. And I'm glad she didn't force herself to do strong vocals like there were in 'Revival' (cuz that's what people generally like..) she was there in her comfortable zone telling her story. But yeah..if u wanna hear production and a vocally superior album, Revival is the one. Stars Dance is just too heavy on the beats but its a great album. But as Selena said in an interview her contract with Disney and Hollywood records was more controlled. You have to put out stuff in a certain way for a certain population when you are working with someone like Disney. She didn't feel connected to many of her songs . But the album was still good. Can't complain.
her album revival is WAYYY better than rare and as a Selena stan i also didnt like many of the tracks on this album but im sure youd enjoy listening to revival
My favorite album according to ranks.... 1. Revelacion 2. Revival 3. Rare 4. Droplets Era 5. Stars Dance 6. When the sun goes down 7. A year without rain 8. Kiss & tell
Maybe it's just because I grew up with Selena, she's around my age, but this album came out just before I left my husband and so my entire breakup relates to this album so every single song, whether it's a drunken night of dancing or an emotional moment, I love it. there's definitely some skips for sure, but overall this album to me is such a blast and so relatable. It's 100% repetitive, but sometimes you just need that and to have fun. I get what you've been saying with the lyrics vs. beat and one needs to be better than the other if one isn't strong, but overall this album is such a bop and I felt so free when I listened to Rare after I left my relationship that I'm a ride or die lol
I think the original track list make more sense because She, Souvenir and Boyfriend are from the Deluxe version but she said that she could't help to exsist these songs. And Feel Me is from Revival like 2015/2016. You should react to Revival and see the differenes between the albums.
The lyrics on this album are a little bit too repetitive, even though I like it, but revival is clearly her best project, all the songs are really good and very well written
Also: it’s hard because I do like Revival better as it has beautiful deep songs (sober, camouflage, cologne, perfect…) but she was so saaaad and going through so much. Like as a Selena fan you’re just happy that she put an album like Rare out. But in terms of music I do like sad songs better
I love rare but revival will probably forever be my favorite album of hers🥰 also the singles she released for this album were lose you to love me and look at her now and she released them back to back. she released lose you to love me first but then suprised us with look at her now the next day kind of to show us that yes she was in a bad place for a while but look at me now I’m not there anymore and I loved it😄
I would dance with this album when I’m super down. While the lyrics are repetitive it just makes me happy after listening to the whole album. I love Selena and Taylor❤
As much as I love Selena as a person, I have to say that as a vocalist and artist/songwriter, she often leaves much to be desired. This sucks to say because I think when she hits the sweet spot she can be so so good! She has a lovely voice with a sweet tone that obviously has a lot of success with radio, especially for casual listeners and a willingness to experiment with a wide variety of genres. There's just so much untapped potential imo. Unsurprisingly, I agree with a lot of your thoughts on the album; after my first listen, I really only find myself thinking of Boyfriend, Souvenir and Ring. I think this is definitely not her strongest album but I can see why it was good for her to release it, close the chapter and all that. Ignoring my own ramblings, thank you for the reaction and for giving this album a chance. Hope to see you 'round these parts more!
I don't know if your decision to start with Rare was the best one, as much as I understand your reasons for being a more recent album and because of the interview. But Selena's songs are very direct lyrically and very easy to interpret. You don't need to know much behind it to understand, if you know great, if you don't, it doesn't make much difference. But I think in Selena's case, you should have started with Stars Dance and followed the journey from Stars Dance to Rare, so you could see her trajectory in lyrics, instrumental and especially vocals. Rare showcases a lot of Selena's vocal potential that we fans have been waiting for years to see. Songs like Crowded Room would make a lot more impact, especially in the chorus. Might it sound repetitive? Yes, but she's never sung like that before. And in several Rare songs we see her vocals being worked on in a mature and impeccable way.
So here's a quick background on Rare. Rare was meant to be released in 2017. She released Bad Liar, Fetish, and Wolves as the first 3 singles. The album was going to have darker, shadier, and sadder songs based on the songs that we know were going to be on that album, and the songs that leaked. Around the time she released "Fetish", she went through health complications and needed a kidney transplant, and once she got it thanks to her friend Francia Raisa, she decided to not release the album anymore. She recorded a bunch of new material in 2018-2019 that were much more uplifting and happy, so most of the songs in Rare are from 2018-2019. She wanted an album that explored where she is right now in this moment, filled with happiness and self-love, rather than the 2017 version that would've been filled with heartache, sadness, and hurt. It's kind of unique because the title track, Rare, can have 2 meanings. The 1st meaning can be about being sad that someone doesn't realize how special you are. The 2nd meaning can be about realizing your worth and how special you are regardless of anyone else's opinion and how they treat you. The 2017 version would've went for that 1st meaning, and but 2020 version we got went for the 2nd meaning, so it really does show the growth in the album process in terms of Selena's changed mindset. Rare, Kinda Crazy, and Feel Me, are the only songs from the original 2017 version that made it to the album. It's possible Souvenir could've been from 2017 too. The rest are more recent. Rare is actually a unique album because Selena didn't decide to release it because she thought "Oh, I have the perfect tracklist that tells my entire story from 2016-2020". Rather, she decided to release it because she just felt like it was time. There wasn't a defining song, tracklist, or moment that made her decide to release the album. It was just her simply feeling ready and in a good place. The tracklist is interesting because it was going through changes up until one month before the album was release. In fact, Crowded Room and A Sweeter Place weren't even going to be in the album but were added in last-minute. There are even other songs she recorded that didn't make it on the album that she really wanted to be in the album. So it's definitely just a product of her wanting to tell the world she's in a good place rather than trying to make a 10/10 comeback album after a 5-year hiatus. I am excited for her next album though and wonder where she's going to go with the concept after being at "peace" with Rare.
It’s about time you do a Lana Del Rey album reaction if you want amazing storytelling, production and vocals! Literally next to Taylor Swift Lana is another artist who’s a lyrical genius.

I feel attacked you didn’t like my 3 favs 😩 crowded room souvenir and cut you off You’ll like Revival better I guess. Of course you should do a video like “droplets era” as if it was an album tho - those are real acclaimed tracks
I think you didn't appreciate the lyrics enough because you don't have much background on her and her life, the indications about her health, struggle with lupus and after, the 3 different relashionships (1st love that ended with betrayal, short but only positively memorable one and the one with the clingy one) she refeer to in these and also here struggle on knowing her worth (being yourself is something she advocates since day1) I would agree that fun was not it at all though
Personally, rare isn’t an album that I’m a fan of; there are definitely songs on there that I really love but nothing compared to how I feel about Revival. I’d say Revival is her best album!
I think so too but she said that she realized she could speak up more on rare about what she wanted it to sound like so rare is more her. I wouldn’t want her to make revival type albums again at the expense of making what she wanted
@@EmmaKo071201-aiyuan yeah that’s fair. I think it’s makes more sense to say it’s your favorite album by her and not her best since it’s so subjective than. Also, I don’t want to give him a ton of big expectations for revival so he can be more open minded.
@@sakinaalia1067 agreed!! but also from what ive noticed he's always more into songs that he finds lyrically complex than just ones that have a good beat and songs like perfect, camouflage, sober, nobody from that album are where selena's been her most emotionally raw and vulnerable and it's also so much better lyrically, so i kinda really want him to give that a try as well ngl

React to The Good Times And The Bad Ones by Why Don't We Album
Listen to REVIVAL album you will love it
Do Revival… HER BEST FOR SURE!!!!!!!
PS: nobody likes Fun 😅
im expecting a revival or revelacion full reaction next!!
you need to react to revival
Personally, rare isn’t an album that I’m a fan of; there are definitely songs on there that I really love but nothing compared to how I feel about Revival. I’d say Revival is her best album!
I think so too but she said that she realized she could speak up more on rare about what she wanted it to sound like so rare is more her. I wouldn’t want her to make revival type albums again at the expense of making what she wanted
@@sakinaalia1067 oh no, I agree! But taste is subjective and what she likes may not be what I like and that’s okay
@@EmmaKo071201-aiyuan yeah that’s fair. I think it’s makes more sense to say it’s your favorite album by her and not her best since it’s so subjective than. Also, I don’t want to give him a ton of big expectations for revival so he can be more open minded.
@@sakinaalia1067 agreed!! but also from what ive noticed he's always more into songs that he finds lyrically complex than just ones that have a good beat and songs like perfect, camouflage, sober, nobody from that album are where selena's been her most emotionally raw and vulnerable and it's also so much better lyrically, so i kinda really want him to give that a try as well ngl
do Revival!!!!!!!! and maybe some miley cyrus one day (u could start by her “the time of our lifes” era and then keep going until nowadays, u will not regret it!!!!!)
