Seconding the comment about Sett, i love how every AU is slowly incorporating the ship 😂 I love Sett's voicelines in Spirit Blossom and Legends of Runeterra regarding Phel, he's such a flustered dork in the canon verse.

Gonna watch the video now but I have mained Aphelios for a while now and he is my favourite champion(s?) to play.
I'll edit and talk more about in-depth stuff as I'm watching.

Aphelios, "The Weapon of theFaithful", really is just 'the weapon of the Lunari'. He fights against the Solari threat when hiding from them fails.
Aphelios (meaning "furthest from light") is a trained hitman whilst his sister, Alune, possesses magical powers and acts as a 'Seer' (their passive is called "The Hitman and the Seer" also). They were indeed born during a special lunar event which granted the both of them extraordinary skills.
Both have undergone extensive trainings in their specialisations. But one fateful day, the Solari launched an attack on a sacred place of the Lunari. In a desperate attempt to lock out the Solari from what they sought, Alune locked herself in the temple and transported it along with herself into the Spirit Realm.
Now seperated, Aphelios and Alune are able to stay connected to each other through a focuspoint based on intense pain. This allows Alune who is now in the Spirit Realm to "find and connect" with Aphelios. Aphelios drinks a poison made out of 'nocturn flowers' which allows him to receive the pain needed for Alune to connect. This however renders Aphelios mute, but when not under this influence he is able to speak (though we have never heard that so far).
Once connected, Alune is able to send artifacts from the Lunari down to Aphelios which acts as weapons.
Each of these weapons are based on multiple things and they also have cards in Legends of Runeterra. (you can probably tell which ones are which after reading this info within the video at 2:26)
(in order of the phases of the moon:)
Gravitum (often refered to as 'purple'). A cannon that shoots black holes, the darkness from a New Moon. The artifact design is based upon the Ram. (LOR card: The Cloven Way). It's gimmick is crowd control in the form of slows and roots.
Infernum (often refered to as 'blue'). A flamethrower that shoots the fire/light from the Waxing Gibbous moon-phase, as the light reflected from the moon is 'increasing and burning'. The artifact is designed upon the Salamander. (LOR card: The Winding Light). It's gimmick is extra damage and area-of-effect attacks.
Calibrum (often refered to as 'green'). A sniper rifle. The Full Moon reveals and shines brightly, it represents clarity and vision. The artifact is designed on the Crane. (LOR card: The Flight). It's weapon gimmick is extra range and being able to attack marked enemies from a very very long range once.
Crescendum (often refered to as 'white'). A chakram that is 'perfectly balanced' as the Half Moon (ASSUMING third phase of the moon and not the first phase in terms of order but I honestly don't know). The artifact is based upon the Twin (two) Koi Fish. (LOR card: The Skies Above). It's weapon gimmick is that Aphelios throws the chakram and is able to get hold of it again on the return (which allows him to immediately attack again). Alune is able to make 'Mirror Chakram' which empowers his attacks as Aphelios throws 'all' chakrams at the same time. It also serves as a platform that can house any of the other stated weapons for a limited time, attacking on their own.
Severum (often refered to as 'red'). The 'scythe pistol', a crescent-shaped weapon from the Waning Crescent moon-phase. It 'shoots' a flashing arc of red light which damages enemies. The artifact design is based upon that of the Sabretooth Tiger (it's fangs specificaly). (LOR card: The Fangs). It's gimmick is that is provides lifesteal as 'life ebbs'/'is stolen'.
As for how Aphelios works ingame, he is a marksman who has a little bit of everything as his weapons are very diverse. Aphelios, however, cannot choose which weapons he gets as 'Alune always knows what Aphelios needs' for his mission and Aphelios thus follows the lead of Alune's choice without doubt.
Aphelios only has access to a single ability, is able to carry two of the listed weapons at the same time and is allowed to switch which weapon is in 'main-hand' and in 'off-hand'. He also has an ultimate which alters based upon which weapon was used as the ult was performed (based around the 'weapon's gimmicks').
The weapons Alune send have limited 'charges' of moonlight and are returned to her in the temple in the Spirit Realm when they are out of charges. Which automaticaly makes Alune send out the next weapon from the order. The order of which weapons are given can be altered by switching 'main' and 'off-hand' weapons, allowing Aphelios to 'choose' which weapon to discharge first and send to the back of the line.
Alongside the single ability (which is unique for every weapon) and ultimate and being able to swap weapons, Aphelios is able to use both held weapons at the same time and COMBINING both their powers whenever he uses the single ability. This allows for interesting combos.
The abilities are:
Sniper - fire a longrange shot that 'marks' the target which can then be shot once again from a very very long range with his off-hand weapon.
Scythe pistol - Supercharges the weapons and speeds Aphelios up whilst attacking with both main and off-hand weapons.
Black hole Cannon - enemies attack by this weapon are slowed, aphelios can use the ability to root all affected targets.
Flamethrower - Aphelios spreads out a wave of fire and then attacks are hit enemies with his off-hand weapon.
Chakram - Aphelios throws out his chakram. It then stabilises into a platform (like a sentry) and is loaded with the weapon that was in the off-hand.
One of these combo's is the 'Octopus combo', which can be done with the sniper and the black hole cannon. First, strike the target with the cannon, slowing it. Switching to the cannon itself in order to use the ability to root the enemy in place. Then switching back to the sniper to fire the longrange skillshot, which, if hit, Aphelios can attack the marked target from VERY far away with another follow-up shot. An ultimate can be thrown in additionaly when the target was rooted. Idealy with the sniper-variant (this is because the ult also applies another long-range mark and with timing, the ultimate can add yet another extra attack from the given mark before the sniper skillshot even hits).

I love playing him! he's one of the most unique champions in the entire game because he has 5 different weapons that cycle throughout the game (he always has a main hand weapon and an off hand weapon). This also means that it is kind of complicated to understand his abilities since it changes depending on your main AND off-hand weapon, but the versitality is what makes him fun for me.

Alune does the talking because Aphelios can't speak, he is mute. He was forged till youth to become the perfect weapon for the Lunary. As you may know from his short story, he has to drink a poisonous substance to stay in contact with Alune in the spirit realm. She conjures moonstone weapons for him to help him fight the enemies of their faith.
In game, you periodically get a set of 5 weapons ; Severum (pistol), Infernum (flamethrower), Calibrum (rifle), Crescendum (chakram) & Gravitum (cannon).
Another great video by Just Another Nobody! Great ambiance with the music. Obviously can't wait for Kayn's deepdive turn hehe. 😈

It's a common missunderstanding, but he isn't mute. He was born with ability to speak and still have it. Senior Narrative Editor Ququlani, who worked on Aphelios confirmed it saying "Only when he consumes the noctum essence. He can talk when he's not under its influence, but I honestly don't see him being a very chatty individual, lol."

Aphelios and his sister Alune are born during a rare lunar convergence. Each of them represented one side of the moon, Spiritual and Physical. Solari want to kill Lunari. Aphelios drinks a liquid that helps him connect to the power of the night. Ancient temple comes back from the Spirit Realm and Alune is chosen because only one gifted in magic can go in once it reappears. Solari attack and Alune gets new powers that help her connect to Aphelios. Solari all die and the two are now the greatest weapon of the Lunari.
Fun facts:
1. Zoe, before she became the Aspect of Twilight. Was part of the Lunari religion which makes her thousands of years old.
2. The champion Leona represents the Aspect of The Sun and Diana represents the Aspect of The Moon.
3. Aphelios' weapons are focused through Alune, without Alune, Aphelios wouldn't be able to summon his weapons.

Speaking of girlfriends... it's heavily implied that Aphelios and Sett are interested in each other. It started off as a popular ship in the community, but then they made a Spirit Blossom skin for Sett where he calls Aphelios "Mooncake" and asks him out on a date, which was some nice fan service. Later, though, when Sett got added to LoR, even in the main universe he acts all giddy around Aphelios... and then becomes a bit uncomfortable when he remembers Alune's also there. So yes, exactly the thing you mentioned about Phel and Alune being a package deal.

Also they're Dance partners in the Lunar festival universe, and Aphelios is on Sett's splash-art there, decpite the fact that he doesnt even have that skin. And in their HEARTSTEEL icons Aphelios has bisexual colors in the background while Sett has Gay\MLM colors.
About Alune being there, honestly it's not that serious. She's there only when Aphelios drinks poison for the fighting, she's also pretty busy in the Spirit Realm doing her own things.
