oh my goodness, finally someone who made this into a tutorial, thank you so much, very much appreciated. Another curiosity, as you know sometimes the Johnny Haris team uses a canvas pattern but I can't understand how they do it so well. I also always noticed in one of his videos WWII in the Pacific: Why Japan Lost at 0:15 second you can see how the style changes, in my opinion he started with the white background then they added various layers, but how?
Thanks, you're welcome. The canvas would have likely been done with a blend mode (perhaps multiply). for the transition between maps, when you create a second map comp in geolayers you can select the drop down called "link view" and link it to another comp so they show the same thing. he would have then just had two different map styles linked and use a luma matte of an ink splash to transition between the two.
@@Sukhraj You can use a smaller texture and then the effect CC repetile with blended edges to expand it out. Worth only turning on before the final render as it can be quite a render intensive effect.
Hello thank for this amazing tutorial I have made a map however the terrain data is not Loading in GEOlayers even after finalizing what could be the problem? thanks
Doesn't work for me, when loading into geolayers I still get the "datarequest limit for free trail reached. Imagery won't be rendered anymore" error, as geolayers thinks my maptiler trial has ended. Do you know how to change the settings in geolayers to not rely automatically on maptiler and instead use just mapbox? This URL doesn't do anything sadly, and it still gives the error :(
That's not possible unfortunately. I would recommend doing the whole map the dark grey colour with a lighter stroke colour and then drawing on the lighter countries as a shape layer within Geolayers (might slow down you system a lot though so maybe only make them visible for the final render)
Some of the satellite imagery in geolayers when you get too close it it just goes blank. I would suggest trying different satellite imagery (there's Bing and Esri) or scaling up the comp. Also if you go into the settings of the map comp you can change the max zoom setting. That may help.
Thanks so much for this! Quick question. When I zoom in with Geolayers - e.g. from a high view to a close up - the screen shows the outlines of tiles. This also comes out in the render. Is there a way to avoid this? Cheers
Thanks dude alot. Can you teach us how to make historical map style like Kings and Generals when they zoom there is no any building its only terrain, mountain ,rivers and nature
This was great. Does mapbox ever charge for this service and also can you theoretically share custom maps from mapbox with friends who have geolayers / or is there a repo anywhere of premade geolayer maps for inspiration? Thanks!
@@raybp7512 I think I there are some paid mapbox services but this technique is free. If you shared that URI key with a friend then they would be able to use the same map. I’m not aware of a list of URI keys online you can use. You can sometimes find stuff like that on GitHub. On my Google from in the description I have a list of map styles which you’re welcome to use.

Hi, I believe they get them from a guy called Frank Ramspott. Check out his official website and iStock. Unfortunately there isn't a way to animate something like that in After Effects well, this might be more of a Blender thing.

@@MapMotionStudio aaa ok ok as I imagined, but this canvas to have such a close resolution when zoomed in must have a gigantic format

Thank you, bro, I have a question, when editing a Mapbox map, how can I remove the rivers and lakes on the land?"
The issue i keep facing is the zoom level, it only offers 22 zoom levels in geolayers and after that it blurs out for me

Have you tired uninstalling geolayers / AE and reinstalling it?

another question, why can't I zoom in on a city with these types of maps? This could be a problem for me and I don't know how to solve it :(

finalize map comp before rendering

try making sure geolayers is up to date. make sure you've hit publish on Mapbox. Do any of those things work?
