I am the daughter of a dad who committed suicide because he was addicted to gambling. I was 16 when my dad committed suicide. My dad taught me how to gamble at the age of 13. I can count cards and play every single game. I specialise in roulette which my dad taught me. He was a pro at roulette to the point that he was in jail for 9 months and lost all of our money and when he was in debt he killed himself. It has taken me decades of therapy, drug addiction, alcohol addiction and being in abusive marriage to realise that my dad did love me but he was just dealing with a power that was so strong that it was consuming him. This is what happens to children of gamblers and parents who committ suicide. You leave your pain for your children or your family and they then continue the cycle generation of addiction. I do not wish this on anyone. It is a living nightmare. It takes courage and strength to speak up and this young man right here knows he has a problem and wants help. That is the first step to recovery. Proud of you mate

Just last week I heard of a story of a man who watched a roulette table for hundreds of hours and used a computer program to analyze the numbers and gave himself a 15% player advantage and made millions doing so. This was due to the fact that it's almost impossible to create a perfect circle so all roulette tables have microscopic imperfections that will show a pattern over time. I don't know the entire story but his name was Gonzalo Garcia if you're interested in looking into him.

The gambling addiction is trying to fill a void. Usually not enough excitement in your life and to overcome that boredom you go to extreme measures, in this instance its gambling money with the chance of winning big. Need to keep yourself busy with hobbies and doing exciting things that dont involve drugs, alcohol, or gambling.

Allowing legal sports betting on anyone’s phone anytime was 1 of the worst things we’ve allowed into society. It’s only going to get a lot worse as people see gambling as a way to get some margain on their bills. Only it doesn’t happen so they gamble to get out of debt then gamble to get out of the enormous hole they’ve dug.

    • @ChrisSuswal-de9tj

I've been gambling here and there since I was a teenager. I hit a really bad spot with online poker/ casino's from like 2010-2015. I was so drawn in and couldn't imagine a life without it. Living with my mom, never helping out financially because I was always broke, never even helping around the house because I was too busy gambling. A lot of different things happened in my life and I slowly got away from it. Put my head down and started working more. Got myself an apt and was living paycheck to paycheck. Was the best thing for me. When I realized the difference in 50-100 bucks is the electric bill getting paid, or a grocery shopping trip to have some food in the house, or even the occasional 6 pack to sit back and enjoy the journey.... I can never go back. A $50 deposit becomes another $50. Then $100 to recoup that loss. And then... You know the rest. Anyway my point is down here in Florida they opened up the sports book apps through Hard Rock casino recently. We didn't have Draft Kings or the rest available through the state. It's been a little less than a year but all my colleagues and friends go crazy about this thing like kids in a candy store. I worry about them. I never had interest with what Ive went through in my life, and I'm very grateful for that. However I hate the massive advertisements and pumping the product from the TV/ TH-cam masses. "It's so easy to win!!!" I went out of my way to make my poor choices. This is being offered to kid/ young adults like fn cereal!

It's not necessarily an "escape" as in when I have problems I game to avoid em, it's more or less unproductive. I still work and am doing relatively well financially, considering I also had a really troubling childhood but I digress.
Playing games for hours since I was 5 and now 25 doesn't help with brain development. My mom is like alot of parents that just plopped their kids in front of a TV to keep em controlled

If you're a problem gambler don't try to run away from it, run towards something better. Pick another activity, business venture or mission and channel that energy into it that gives you a feeling of accomplishment. Learn to delay gratification and keep your focus on the process of the goal. Pick something you enjoy that is constructive or at least not destructive. Focus on doing that new passion every day, set daily or weekly milestones and check off each one you complete. Now you're winning at life!

well I'm over a decade clean of using coke and I still think my struggle to get clean can't compare to someone with a gambling addiction. withdrawals from heavy drugs are indeed horrifying and if you live through them, it makes you never want to do it again. I sat in rooms with gambling addicts though and their withdrawls are 24/7 because they want to earn back what they lost. it never goes away for most.

I still have apps n access but I just haven't the urge anymore. It's like I've burnt myself out from it all. Anyway ive no desire to really bet anymore, 3 years now... I find myself enjoying watching sport more naturally rather than waiting on one corner or a goal🙄 was fun while it lasted but over with now.

So please dont get discouraged with the thought that your future includes daily meetings forever. she does avoid environments where alcohol is the focus and she doesnt keep booze in her home. she goes to meetings if and when life gets rough - just preventatively. so easy does it! you have happiness, peace and joy in your future. I love this guys honesty...i don't have a problem with gambling but i used to smoke and it was the hardest thing ever to quit... so i have a little advice....i know it is a different addiction but i hope this helps:
You have to want to quit...that is first...
Also i changed my environment....i got away from other smokers...and out of places smokers went....
Also i joined a gym and started eating healthy...again changing my environment....
I also replaced the habit of smoking...with sucking on straws and drinking more coffee....especially at the the gym...
The more i went to the gym the more i could stay away from smoking....and i met other other relationships that were bettter and more positive and were not smokers...
Change your thoughts and you will change your life...
I hope this helps a little...i know my addiction was different but i hope it is relatable....God bless everyone....

Look at sports betting this way. You can make a good sports bet on paper, you consider stats, data, etc., but when the game starts, players, referees, umpires, etc. have all types of impacts on the final outcome, and all those possible variables turn your bet into a coin toss, at best. No one would ever bet large sums of money on a coin toss.

I had a very bad gambling addiction from 2011-2015. My addiction was going to casinos. What helped me to stop was reading up on the Buddhist philosophy of gambling. They say that even when we win, it doesn't give us a good feeling deep down. We are aware on some level that it's a kind of theft. Everyone wants to win. Only a few do, so we are taking money from the others. It feels very grubby. Even if I were an "advantage player," I don't want to get my money that way.
Don't ponder too much about what that guy said at your GA meeting about always being one day away from gambling. I had a guy at my GA meeting who had been clean for decades say that he could live inside of a casino and he still wouldn't feel the urge to gamble. He was that over it.

Because you deserve to be happy. You deserve more. If you don't believe in yourself believe in the people who believe in you. But remember you be completely honest. What's behind the addition. What trauma are you running away from? You must find the answer and confront it. Ask your wife and your family for help. And you should also ask your Heavenly Father for help. I don't your beliefs but your Savior is ready with his hand out for you to take it. Ask the Lord to save you. And be patient with yourself, it may take some time to heal from the past.

Then I made one stupid bet and started to chase. I felt like it wasn’t enough… and I can never stop thinking about how much I would’ve had if I never started years ago. Idk why I compare myself to others when we only competing against ourselves from yesterday. Now a week later I have $100 in my account my credit card over the limit and can’t pay my car payment. It hurts so much I kinda wish I could fade from existence and just have everyone who’s ever known me memory wiped of me. I feel so foolish and undeserving of anything in life. But we’re still here so let’s try to turn it around. I’m about to start working 7 days a week two jobs which I obviously don’t want to but hopefully it will get me out this hole

The same her man. Also the stress it gives when you lose. I've lose close to 1K I think. But we need to stop. I hope we can stop. There's no winning in gambling. We must accept that we can no longer recover what we lose. If we keep on holding that idea, we will just increase our lose instead of gaining our lose. Let us stop.

Absolute legend mate for speaking up. Ignore the judgemental people. It shows how uneducated society is on gambling and gambling addiction. My dad was a massive gambler. He committed suicide when I was 16 years of age. He taught me everything about gambling. How to count cards, play black jack, poker, how to calculate all the probabilities in roulette when I was 13. I know all about gambling. I also know that it has nothing to do with winning or losing. It's an illness of the brain. I don't wish anybody to ever go thru what I went thru from my dads suicide to gambling. It ruins children. It ruins families. It took me 20 years in therapy to understand why my dad did what he did. I also had to deal with drug addiction and alcohol addiction and being in an extremely abusive and violent marriage as I thought my dad never loved me when in fact he was dealing with demons from his gambling addiction.
Keep fighting mate. It is worth it. I promise

I'm in the UK and love the sports betting but I am addicted, I don't bet much but I always like to have a live bet to follow. It's kind of ruined my love for sports and because I don't bet big I tell myself it's ok but I don't feel like I have control of my life anymore and that's what tells me I'm addicted

I had a friend just like him. HIs dad let him bet horses when he was 15. He was one of the best win rate players ever playing online poker. We became friends playing poker against each other impressed of each others skill level because we basically broke even after playing each other for a week and would talk about hands after our match. We became poker buddies which is something pro poker players don't tend to do. We don't trust each other. But he was really nice honest person. he played heads up and crushed all the best players would win anywhere from 500k to 1m a year. All of it would be spent on sports betting. ALL of it. I tried to get him to stop he just couldn't no matter what he did. Not just bet a basketball game but each quarter as well. He had to have adrenaline rush of watching a game every day on every quarter of any sports game or he couldn't cope as a person. He ended up jumping in front of a train. That is how he stopped it.
Parents should not let their kids gamble at early age. They can't shake that addiction if they start at a young age. It becomes wired in their brain to do it.

Gambling is a addiction, and the sport books set these lines to trap bettors but sports are manipulated the leagues have games set up for different out comes of how much money is on certain teams. Might as well quit now kill this addiction I am in the same boat as yourself chasing wins in a manipulated environment.

Its all rigged. You dont know whos in on the fix. And life is so crazy, some of the athletes arent in the proper headspace to be the consummate professional you expect them to be. The arbitrary rule changes are no help either, it makes players hesitate at the moment of truth, reacting so fast that theyre playing the game of the prior season w/o the new rule. If ever there was a time to bet on sports those days are gone. The insanity of feeling cheated by some boneheaded mistake or act of corruption in the final minutes of the game leaves you with otherworldly grief.

I started gambling flipping baseball cards under the table in school.. and then when I was a teenager I would go to the bazaar and bet on the Wheel... I wasn't a big Sports better the mafia was two blocks from my house and I know them well but it involves markers I want you lost on Sunday you have to pay them on a Wednesday I didn't want to get into that... horse racing was my thing I knew the game I know how to read the racing form and I was possessed with it and it was running my life..... I was betting 100 a race or more.. in 1998 I had to skip mortgage payments because I gambled away at the racetrack my mortgage payment money... I don't play the horses no more and it made a big difference in my life.. I can't rule out I will never go back to the track... I've been to the racetrack three times since 2019 and in 2 days it will be 2024......
