  • New census data shows that Texas is the fastest growing state in the nation. That status brings challenges, but benefits as well.

    Yip...everybody insults Texas and bitches about it until they have to move to the land of the free where you can make yourself successful if you work hard and just do it. I did. I'm from NJ and couldn't get anything done, came here and it's freaking awesome.

    Our home in California has tripled in value in the last ten years but our property taxes increase only on average 2% a year.That is due to prop 13 so all is not so bad in California. Also, the more people that leave, the less clogged freeways are so please... move to Texas by all means. I will take the California redwood coast, beautiful beaches, the wine country, and snow-capped Sierra mountains over hot and humid Texas any day.

      Prop 13 is getting closer every year to being repealed. The split-roll prop to change prop 13 barely lost. And the people leaving are middle-class taxpayers, many of which are moderates and Republicans. We have the worst homeless problem in the nation, and crime is increasing. I think things are only going to get worse here.

      @@BPbruv: I don't agree with you on this. Mostly conservatives working-class people who think the state doesn't protect their religious views leave. Also, people who mostly leave Cali are people who think dems screw them. It's not true that Texas offers a better salary than California, which helps you with housing. In fact, Cali is one of the states that pays the biggest paychecks to qualified workers.
      The cons: Conservative shady neighbors who don’t like to meet new people. Humid weather, bad gun laws, and the inability to participate fully in your child's education.

    • @gonzalo4658
      @gonzalo4658 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s only one reason they’re losing people: apartment dwellers. Those are the only people leaving states like yeah, California New York and Florida, because apartment living anywhere is unsustainable. Except when they become near homeless in Texas, they’ll be facing 100 degree 100% humidity summers that claim 4/5ths of the state. And not the fun humidity kind like in Florida or Houston or New York. I mean the wind-less kind. Homelessness and apartment living is simply not an option in Texas. Air quality is too bad, roaches are too numerous, land is too flat, driving conditions prohibit a surviving chance of walking unless you’re a vagabond jaywalker, no public transportation.
      I’m okay with sprawl if it means not living in a vertical mapped concrete jungle town-size shithole like Austin. San Antonio and Dallas-FW are the common sense places to be a homeowner in Texas. Houston and Austin are negh.
      But no place in Texas is safe for someone who doesn’t own a house and car.
      Long story short, there are better alternatives than Texas.

    • @gonzalo4658
      @gonzalo4658 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the end of the day though, I like humidity. If you possess a diet of cornmeal, tahini, canned potatoes, fish, chicken, canned spinach, and 0 to none of anything else, you’re not sweating. Humidity is what keeps a business climate. Dry places on Latin American elevation like Albuquerque and Denver have a lot of problems and homeless and are often transplants to humid cities after being unable to afford “rent” in that comfortable foggy weather.

    • @SquidProQuo80
      @SquidProQuo80 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ignorant comment not based on facts... Texas has the largest growth in tech and salaries have risen every year (factor in cost of living and wages are actually higher than in California). Even if the cost of homes was triple what they were in 2012 that number was still 5X less than the median average home on the West Coast. Nobody is throwing money... they are selling overpriced homes where people pay out of the nose for worthless eco taxes and heavy business regulation in blue states and thriving on a well-managed red one.

And money driving up home owner’s insurance. And more fossil fuels required to fabricate solar powered residential areas. I wonder if the planning commission has an emergency plan in place for displaced residents in the emergence of a state of emergency? And hospitals to treat people?
