- A modern remake... made for the modern audiences ... lets hope its for the CORE people, that like Cyan games ... not for those that push "agendas"
What does it mean , its from grounds up a new game... build on Core Story and puzzles from the original ... not a 1:1 game but, remade to look modern

Riven is hands down the best Myst game. If anything could ever get me to buy a VR headset, it would be this game.
Thing is I have a very good memory of Myst III. I remember it less exhausting maybe 😅
I'm really, really hoping they keep in the live action real human being characters instead of the cartoon versions.
It won't suck like the Myst remake but they are going to stick to 3D. The art style will likely be photorealistic using Metahuman as a base. Firmament was already a huge step up from Myst and they've said they're going to advance further than ever in this area.
I agree. They should do everything humanly possible to keep the live action somehow. Either that or the CGI has to be so goddamn amazing we pee ourselves
The Myst remake “sucked”? That’s the first time I’ve ever read that.
But wouldn't that feel uncanny in this day and age?
Myst remake included a classic cutscenes setting. I'm assuming this will too
Is it weird that teenage me memories finds this so familiar, like my memory says “it’s like I remember”. Like it feels like it was always like this, but I know it wasn’t. Took me a moment to be like oh yea you couldn’t just move or look around anywhere you wanted
It's because it FELT that real even when it was a slide show with cutscenes! The art and story were so good that they sucked you right into the world and didn't let you go until you finally fell into the Star Fissure.
I completed Riven 27 years ago with help from the strategy guide. When this release in VR I'll beat it for real this time, with no guide; just whatever I vaguely remember from a quarter-century ago. This actually looks 1:1 with the OG 90s renders, I wonder if they used the original source models and textures this time
If I get to play Riven in VR, a lifelong dream comes true.
I'm not kidding.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I have been periodically checking for updates on Riven for YEARS. I now own a Quest 2 and I would be SO HAPPY to have Riven in VR.
Maybe I'm finally smart enough to finish it now.
after playing the first game in vr i was hyped when i saw this game being worked on for vr support
@@gavinwigg8057 Right! 😅 As a child I was only able to solve it with a solution book.
Meta announced this game 1 hour ago, I dont know this game, is it good?
Wow! Can't wait for the final version to come out!
I hope they make a VR version. VR Myst was amazing. The point-and-click mechanic works really well for VR because you can explore the world without getting motion sick.
They've already announced they are making a VR version. Hopefully there are a variety of options for people of different experiences or tolerance for motion. Being able to teleport around the world point-and-click style is good for avoiding sickness, but I'd like to be able to walk freely (or even RUN) around these environments.
@@GreyMatterShades Meta announced this game 1 hour ago, I dont know this game, is it good?
@@edmtrip It's a remake of a classic puzzle/adventure game. Difficult puzzles and really gorgeous environments. Lots of people love it, but whether you'll like it or not depends on how much you like puzzles (or how challenging you want your puzzles to be). At very least, the environments should be great to explore in VR.
Cyan doesn’t owe us anything, regarding platform, resolution, etc.
We owe them a huge thank you!
I'm awaiting the release... with mixed feelings. These photorealistic renderings in original game would be hard to beat - all CGI (so far, as far as I can tell) are somewhat on the "wanting" side (as can be observed in games like Obduction) when compared with photorealistic pre-rendered images.
Yeah, there's lot of improvement in this area, "we're getting there", nearly almost, sorta-kinda, but still... But then again, Grimm Fandango was pretty crude as far as 3D stuff goes, yet it was fun to play and great visuals anyway. (In fact, it just now occurred to me, GF managed - AFAIR - to actually solve the problem of 3D games I'm going to address below.)
Also, I personally find that constant panning movement kinda unnerving; still images (as in original version) made the player to "calm down" in a sense - to look and SEE things - and cherish. Not that nervous constant "watchin' 'round the clock" like a deer on a corn field in hunting season - fewer things to look at made you (the player) to LOOK more carefully. It's that "sensory overload" thing - or going to cinema to watch a movie vs flipping, for an hour or two, through bunch of attention grabbing (and screaming for attention) nonsense videos on TikTok... Kinda. Well, y'get the idea.
Back to the Riven - and its original photorealism - there is plenty of locations where I just stopped, for minutes at a time, and watched the surroundings, enjoying the scenery, its breathtaking beauty and listening to the music... All that back in '97, on my 15" CRT monitor, but still, it's an experience to remember. How would "newer, better" Riven fare in this aspect? Well, if remaking of MYST is to be any clue here, I have to say that only the third remaking was "pretty much in all respects better" that the original one (i.e. "MYST v. 1.1" - still prerendered images, but of improved quality).
And it's not about "realism" per se - in fact quite the opposite. When I saw that latest MYST for the first time my first though was "who got this silly idea of this funny tint?" - but then, after few moments of watching it, I realised that it was actually THE thing that makes it - the "feeling of the game" - bringing back some of that "unrealism" of the original one.
And then there's this "contrast of movement" thing - when you play a game, "point and click" style, for quite some time (so your mind gets sorta used to the "stillness" of the world and its scenery), and THEN you jump on this Maglev thingy (or a lift) AND it takes you for a ride - then this ride REALLY stands out, and is really impressive - however, when it's just another "smooth movement among others" it's... well, just that.
Having said all of that (and voicing my misgivings), I HAVE TO say that this former style of "watching the Riven world with stiff orthopaedic collar firmly affixed to one's neck" (and restricted to 90° turns only) made the process of creating the mental map of this world pretty challenging - finding the spatial relations between all these islands and comprehending fully the scheme of all paths and connections was a challenge into itself, I'd say (well, at least for me it was).
Here, you stand on the jetty in the middle of the lake, and you just really "look around" - and you can clearly see what is where, and what path/ ladder/ slide goes from where to where.
So, to sum up this little ramble of mine - I guess it'll turn out as most of "improvements" in life - some you win, some you loose, and, as always, beauty is in the eye of beholder (or "De gustibus non diputsndum est" - whichever you prefer...;-)
This is very faithful to the original 90s renders, it looks awesome. It definitely FEELS like Riven.
My favorite game of all time. The world they created is insane.
I've been hearing about Riven remakes in 3D for many years now. Not holding my breath.
Childhood ❤
This is going to be great in VR
I've been waiting for this one !
I am eagerly waiting for this game
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I want to cry... 26 years waiting for this...🥲
I've been waiting so fucking long I'm not kidding
hope they put this on PS5 like Obduction \o/
the only thing I'm not going to like is if they don't get real life actors
Nice to see a remake of Riven is in the work's 😊😊
I really hope they let us go off the path a little bit. And I'm hoping that like they did with the Rime Age in Myst, that they add some new content here and there. It would also be awesome to have wildlife as a constant fixture in the environment, rather than just existing entirely in FMVs.
I hope so too!
this is unbelievable im shocked
Will it be also possible to play old style point and click?
For a remake, why does it feel laggy when moving around?
th-cam.com/video/nrjeQBUzhB0/w-d-xo.html
since you don't want to play a stuttering mess like Jedi ... like showed they finished the game , now are in process of optimizing it to make it run fluid
The concept of Riven with freelook makes me drool.
I would love to see Exile remade after this.
i'm so hype for this. my favorite person could not get into riven because of its control scheme and i really feel like this will let her enjoy it. and i think she will really enjoy it
Is this the Unreal Engine?
Next, do Exile!!!!!
I'm totally sick of all of those remakes, and it seems like I'm the only one. It's like developers no longer have faith in making new stuff.
So , what is the new Cyan gimmick , of this new age ... its VR ... and when you turn it off you get a Non-VR version... the problem here is, a VR game made for that control system does not work with just a flip of a switch as a Non-VR game ... and you feel it , like in Firmament ...A game that looks cool in VR ... jank in non-VR ... since the main core of the game is to read books and look at art ... that made a bit of a controversy , since it was Ai generated ... and use a port gun that operates electric ports ...
A game about a Soviet Socialist Utopia, on a Space Ship that fails... when a Imprint of a Socialist Worker copied over a AI tells you a story , how she the proud Antifa member killed all to bring the socialist worker revolution... and mocks you all the way ... only to show , a empty bio-domes on a spaceship , with marks of a failed mutiny... at the end , you reset 3 bio domes , wake up the original Ship AI that reboots the ship , and fly to new Earth to colonize it ... without socialism , that showed its a failed system ... many that completed the game, say this game showed the wrong perspective ... you should have played as Her POV ... then as ... a Astronout that woke up , had amnesia , was told lies he was bad , he wanted to be a GOD and forgot about resetting the ship ... but at the end you see , she was just a Socialist that lied to achieve a goal :/ ...
While Riven does hold up, it really does need a good VR remake to introduce it to an audience that probably wouldn't touch it due to its age.
I do agree that Myst really only needed two of its remakes; the free walk one, and the VR one. Having to explain the differences to friends every time a sale comes up is annoying lol
While I love new stuff, I absolutely love the experience of playing Riven. And I've been a bit sad that the game's graphics seemed worse and worse the older the game gets (in comparison to newer titles of course), while it was top notch when it game out. So I'm really happy that it gets upgraded to modern computers. Looking forward to play this, and hopefully also in VR.
@@valuemastery For more info what is the plan for this game , from Rand Miller and Richard Vander Wende that show off more new Riven content and answer fan questions at Cyan Worlds HQ th-cam.com/video/mYwYEX3J9lI/w-d-xo.html
They've also been making new stuff: Obduction and Firmament
approximate release date ?
It looks amazing, and I cannot wait to explore this world again!
hey , at lest its YET NOT ANOTHER MYST REMAKE that was done like 7 times, haha ... Myst 1 CE , Myst 1 ME DVD , RealMyst , Myst 1 on Unity , Myst Smartphone Edition , Myst 1 VR on Unreal Engine (and none VR)... talk about milking your IP ... same way like Skyrim was ported to anything ... now the same thing is done to Oblivion , with a UE5 remake hitting soon ... hehehe
Finally, the one game that I finished on Halloween 2020 is getting a remake.
Ironic that you're pushing your own agenda. Grow up dude.
guess you don't game , since if you where you would see the ESG agenda pushing that every entertainment company jumps on ...since having a Green ESG score, gives you cheap Bank Loans and lowers your land tax ... there is also those SJW agencies that blackmail every gaming studio : Glaad and "Sweet Baby"... Just see on what projects they where, and you will see why Disney movies are so Bad this days , and why AAA gaming sucks hard ... not to mention the 2030 Wef imitative to remove any physical media from circulation... make all digital , from books to entertainment , "You will own nothing, and be happy" ... and we all know how easy is to remove\edit digital media from services ... just ask the SkullGirls community , a Kickstarted game that suddenly was EGS patched , when a woke company bought the IP removing all female forms from it ... even from the digital art book , people paid money ... How Simpsons is missing episodes ... or how every Disney movies is edited on theirs Streaming service ...
Spoilers: He would, in fact, not grow up
Rand showed more of it later that day
