Zu der Entstehung der Turmruine: Diego gibt am Anfang des Spiels einen entscheidenen Hinweis "Du kannst von Glück reden, dass ich mich bei den Magiern nicht mehr blicken lassen kann" in Bezug auf die Botschaft für die Feuermagier. In einem Prequel, verfasst als Comic unter dem Ehapaverlag, gibt es eine kurze Geschichte der Gefährten und wie sie sich kennen lernten und in der Kolonie landeten. Auf einer Infiltrationsmission werden Milten und Diego von einem Magier erwischt und sind gezwungen zu fliehen. Während der Verfolgung spricht ein Feuermagier einen mächtigen Zauber und bombadiert den Turm, durch den die beiden fliehen und bringt ihn so zu Fall. Den Comic gibts als pdf zum lesen. Schönes Video

Well I could see them using it as such but it's it obviously also a watchtower. One could add that it is also a type of storage building since all the treasures can be found inside. Do you have some real life example of a medieval tower used as somekind of retreat/bunker?
@@vertigo7082 yes. plenty of castles had that. just google keep or donjon. while gothic one might not be perfect representation because it is build on outer wall but access to it is only through living quarters so that makes it good enough representation. also of course there is little need for something like that inside barrier. siege is not likely so it was made into vault.
Wow! Excellent video! Where did you get the footage of the abandoned and sunken mine? I knew that you could enter it and (provided you brought light sources) you could even explore it for a few dark shrooms (though without a way back), but it looked nowhere near as big as the underwater place you showed in the video. Concerning your theories about the origin of the castle, I would subscribe to the second one. Reason being that there is already an old castell right on top of a big mountain and that it was presumably much more fortified than the new castle of the old camp. The first theory falls a little flat, because the count presumably had money problems (hence him selling the land), and would thus not have kept the castle in as well of a shape as it is now). One could argue it was repaired by the king's troops later, but it's architecture is also quite different from the other older structures. It would make sense to have a collection point in the middle of the valley, but militarily it is a disaster. There is nothing well defensible about its position. If it were on top of a hill (like the old castell) the orcs later in Gothic II would not have been able to use a ram at all. I would agree that the small structures around the map (and definitely the watch towers), were used during the first orc war (just as Ratford said), as they fit with the architecture of the old castell (one of them even uses the same modell as the watch tower of the old castell). Definitely looking forward to the other videos. Especially if you have any theories about the temple in the swamp camp and the big unnatural cave of the new camp!
Thanks mate! For the footage I used the Gothic Definitive Edition Mod which sends you into the abandoned mine for a quest. It is even bigger, just showed a little segment in the video. It's a good point that you make about my theories concerning the castle, the architecture speaks for itself, gotta dig into it maybe in a later video. A video about the smaller watchtowers is also on my list since I got really curious about them. Generally it's a shame that there isn't much set in stone when it comes to the overall lore regarding world design etc. but that's good for me so I can speculate a bit more :D
