I lived in Peterlee from 1959-1970, (5-15 years old) then we moved to Canada. It was wonderful to watch this video, it brought back a lot of memories for me. I lived in Manor Way.
This town is so different now, I had no idea that was what the town used to originally look like, I have lived here all my life and I am only 18 years old, thank you so much for showing me the history of my home :D thank you.
Peterlee the Monte Carlo of the North east. Full of Charity Shops and cheapo shops selling tat to nuggets walking around the town centre with a Mobile phone glued to one hand and in the other hand the famous greggs Pasty.
Thanks for the video. I'm from Peterlee and until the past few years always lived there (and still did in 2009 when this was uploaded). It isn't actually that bad for crime and what not compared to the city I live in now (Sheffield). With regret however I had to move away to find career progression, which is a shame as it is too easy to slate it, when in reality, it is a pretty decent and safe town.
Fantastic. I grew up in Peterlee from 1966 to 1979. It was a special place. I miss it, and I miss my friends. Harry Freeman where are you mate ? It's Dave from Neville road ! I'll be back.
Peterlee, like so many new towns, could have been so much better than it is. It's a shame so much of it was built in the 60s and 70s - the era that architecture forgot.
Thank you for this, my family remember all of this but for me been only 25 i remember half and it has changed a lot. makes me angry to see that peterlee was a good simple place back then, today it has been wrecked by chavs and cocky kids.
Is anyone here from 2019 peterlee now is bad and I am 11 years old so this gives me idea to look at it now it makes me want to cry some pictures are still the same from now don’t mind me I am a girl
I knew the queen visited peterlee! She stayed in my old street Avon Road for a bit. I've been alive 13 and have lived it all in peterlee. It needs to go back to the old ways. They look better and like it has more room and places to go. Shame. I have been living there from 2000 to 2013 and nothing has got better. It's all crap. There is nothing to do. It's so boring now. Wish it was as fun as the old days
I visit Father in law in Peterlee Eddison Rd., a few times a year, i come from Swindon Wilts 280 mile trip, I would love to live there for the friendly people up north. You come to Swindon see how the people treat you, very cold town.
@chizzywoo the memories are great i can remember somethings but some are lost coz iam gettin on abit now most ov me memories are from the royal arms (cowie place) now its called sledmere close i just loved living there and one day i move back
Thank you for the reply MrUKfootball i will be up Peterlee next Thur/ Fri/ Sat & Sunday. I suspect its winterey up there by the North Sea.If you ever visit Swindon check out our Magic Roundabout { on You Tube ] Right by our STFC County Ground.
Please can you click the link of when i was on itv news. All i want to is bring awareness of how dangerous the sea can be on the coast. To the parents and grandparents who watched me on itv news could you please speak to your children and grankids and friends about the dangers of the sea. ah xD just shows that peterlee always has the crapy xmas trees... though it would be an advantage to live back then because you would be able to grow up away from chavs and distrespectful people
Born there 1961.
Left in 1972.
Clearest memory is walking down into Horden for Saturday morning pictures.

It was a good place to grow up in the sixties.
there were 2 escalators. One in the middle of town, near where Greggs is now and one round the back where doggetts was. Neither of them ever worked.
