    Bas, the King Of Pancrase! Both Bas and Frank are true legends of the sport. But what is most incredible about these early days of MMA in Japan, is how much the Japanese fans appreciate the sportsmanship between the fighters and the silence they keep when they fight, this is the absolute respect and honor to the sport and to the fighters in my opinion. It is due to their culture nonetheless.

      It's more than that, the stare-down hype, the backhanded insults and threats to the fans and toxic attitude from the top management down sets the standard for the attitude of the fans. You're not going to have class-act crowds if the competitors aren't consistent sportsmen.

    Hey Bas. Ik ben volledig blind maar leef voor de vechtsport. Het meekrijgen van wedstrijden is altijd wel een ding omdat er nooit audio descriptie bij is. Deze video’s zijn werkelijk waar geweldig, en ik wil je er echt ff voor bedanken dat je dit doet. Ook echt prachtig dat het gevecht goed te horen is door het respect van het publiek. • @jonsubs9998
      @jonsubs9998 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hilarious. Bas being less effective if strikes were allowed? They were allowed. But the grapplers and the audience made him back down because he would win easy otherwise. So in an odd code of honor he wouldn't hit them on the ground. In other fights you see others strike each other, but they never started with Bas. Bas' code was that he wouldn't striker first, but if the other guy hits him then that's an invitation. Frank as a complete fighter didn't believe in holding back, so he started hitting him. That's why you see striking against Frank, but once it goes back to Japaneses fighters its back to straight wrestling on the ground. Bas was so good he would hold back the ground striking and fight them in their own style.

    • @MansMan42069
      @MansMan42069 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonsubs9998 Almost. Ken Shamrock never struck Bas on the ground, but could stand toe to toe with Bas in terms of striking.

    • @jonsubs9998
      @jonsubs9998 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MansMan42069 Bas was still a bit of a rookie when he faced Ken at his prime. I understand why Ken didn't want to fight Bas a few years down the line once Bas became the best, but in terms of history we don't really have a point of reference because rookie Bas is not the Bas we are talking about when we say he dominated Pancrase with ease.
      Having said that, both Shamrocks were tremendous fighters, probably my favorite Bas fights. And by the same token, Bas fights against Frank were also with Frank being on the rookie side, he got better after. But prime Bas was at another level in almost all skills (except parrying a takedown, Bas was always terrible at that).

I completely disagree with it. it's a silly game. I told my coach I wanna fight at 185 (im 176) and he said those guys walk around at 210 and cut to that, that i'd be 170 or even 155. but so many pros look down on weight cutting its dangerous

    Love your commentary Bas! Just discovered these. I've been a fan for a long time and wish a Pancreas version of competition was in the states. I've trained under Bart Vale Shootfighting for 20 yrs which over the years as transformed to Strong Style Fight Team under Marcus Marenalli in Cleveland most known for our champ Stipe Miocic. Most people don't realize that Strong Style stands for ShootFighting and ShootFighting is considered the "strong style" of all martial arts. Which is why I love seeing the old school ShootFighting and Pancreas fights. If it weren't for you guys the UFC and all the other mms organizations wouldn't be what they are today. So a HUGE thank you Bas! I'm in no way the fighter I was but I use your training id's for workouts at least once a week and will continue to make ShootFighting a part of my life for the rest of my life. Your a huge influence brother. I hope one day to train w you at a seminar or something man.

    I love the lack of bullshit posturing, no trash talking etc, they shake hands BEFORE fighting. The fight sells itself, no need for melodrama. I'd watch MMA if it was still like this.

    What I really like about this Pancrase footage is how respectful and sportsman like the fighters were. Bas was mentioning how in previous fights, he didn't really wanna punch on the ground because people seemed to think that wasn't cool since he had the striking advantage over many other Pancrase fighters. Can you imagine something like that in modern day UFC? I really like how Bas fought under many different rulesets and always adapted in effective ways and constantly kept learning. It makes total sense for me that he's commentating for Karate Combat since it's another format with an unusual ruleset. It's different from other comparable kickboxing/striking leagues and has one foot in MMA. Bas with his broad knowledge and experience is the perfect guy for the league.
