- What to do at a Dacha? I'm visiting a Russian Dacha Garden, exploring Russian life outside the city. This dacha (дача or русский сад) had the most incredible vegetable garden, with lot of work to maintain. No dacha would be complete without a Russian Sauna known as a Banya, and enjoying Shashlik over hot coals (Russian bbq). Russian Dacha life at the summer house, part of Russian culture.

I ve always believed that with the widespread dacha culture Russians are among the best prepared nations to survive some apocalyptic events :)
lol - true, and sometimes I feel we prepare for it! 🤣
Yeeeees...) We know how to plant, gather mushrooms, wild berries, wild herbs and breed animals and birds. If there is no water, gas or electricity there won't be any problem, because we have pechkas, mangals, fireplaces to cook and keep houses warm and wells for water. Most of our dachas are self-sufficient.
We are going to dig underground cellar 3x4 now to store our veggies, fruits, jars of pickles, jams, juices and so on. So many... that we already don't know where to store them...
Hats off to the owner. This is a lot of DIY work. Of course you can go and buy it at the supermarket, but it's Russian style. At the end of the 70s, the government distributed vacant land to workers of city enterprises, 6 acres each. The land is not suitable for agriculture. The townspeople began to develop these plots with enthusiasm. Some have discovered a talent for gardening and love for the land. So it was born.
It was much early, my family had dacha even before 2 World War and it was 400 or 600 square metres.
U know, noticed with my Mom, older people just love spending all days in the garden, it actually more of a mental relaxation. AND the food you get after is just a pleasant healthy out-turn
Real hard workers live here! The kitchen garden and their entire household is very well maintained. My respect to them!
Yes they do! It was so incredible to visit!
Yeah, this is the dacha of real plant growing fanatics. Usually dachas are simpler.
@@yasenkrasen1581 russian Russian and I know it, prichom this is the dacha of ordinary people, not expensive buildings, as there are real two-storey osbniki, we Russians love the dacha is a thrill of creation
Having a garden makes people 🤑 rich, maintenance of garden keeps people healthy in mind and body! How clever y'all are!
It is so nice, small and comfy:)) I remember gardens at my Grandparents, one was 3000sq.m., another is 1000sq.m.. mostly all potatoes which is the hardest 😫. Apple, pear, apricot treas all around.. all other veggies don't require hard physical work, so men worked on potatoes and treas, girls other berries and veggies. In addition, 7-10 cows, crazy calves, 30-40 sheep, bulls, chickens and etc. I wa like willingly asigning myself into correctional labor every summer vacations lol. Best time.. 6 cousins, 3 months in mountains 🤤
@@bl8346 "willingly asigning myself into correctional labor every summer vacations" Best comment ever! 😂

Ehhhhh my friend excellent video, I suppose when you have a Dasha you are a lucky man !!!!
I'm new subscriber,
Regards from Mexico!!!!
Thanks for the sub and for watching! :-)
A dacha is an absolutely sacred place for every Russian .. All Russians are the descendants of peasants .. When the Russians moved to cities, they could not leave their peasant past ... The dacha is the soul of the Russians ...
...I will also add .. As a rule, there is a lot of work at the dacha .. But Russians spend their summer weekends to do this work. They believe that working on the land after the city is the best vacation.
Fantastic gardens!
They are! Thanks for visiting!
Such beautiful gardens. Too bad this video ended so soon. A feast for the eyes.

Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it!
I like to be at a Dacha..
I was waiting for the dill and there it was. I love the dill when I visit Ukraine, but I just can't seem to grow it in my zone in California. That was a ferocious sobaka!
the dill was growing better than I could ever grow it too. That sobaka hated everyone. I was going to edit it out, but left it in as part of the experience! lol
Haha!
@@petersfoodadventures In Ukraine, dill grows like a weed. I mean, once you plant it, it then sows everywhere itself and grows every year in unexpected places. We eat it right away with different dishes in the country and even give it to our neighbors - a lot of It will vomit. But the climate has changed and in our latitudes came the heat of Central Asia without rain. There was no such thing in Ukraine even in my childhood in the 70s. There was a moderate heat up to 27 degrees and rains. And the seisas is 35 -42 and without rain. We have to water it with an electric pump from a borehole 45 meters deep. Such wells were drilled by each owner of the site at home.
so, everything is well-groomed. I do not know how many workers this garden is maintained , but the owners are definitely well done - all the plants are healthy and all the weeds are removed .Black currant is the most wonderful berry of Russian gardens, the leaves dilute the blood and thus prevent blood clots, which are deadly for modern people , and the berries contain a lethal dose of vitamin C, lethal is for various viruses.
I agree Светлана, it's so wonderfully maintained. This is a group of gardens without fences. Most of what you see in front of the dacha is what is maintained by my aunt and uncle, that's all, just 2 workers! Each dacha owners maintain it's own gardens. I also love the black currants and gooseberries too!! 😊
Hi Peter! That garden was amazing! And the dachas so cute! That grilled meat looked really tasty. Have you tried to replicate the meal at home?
Hi! Yes, it sure was amazing, and the meat was delicious! Yes we make it at home all the time. There are so many different ways to make shashlik. This was a Shashlik recipe made with marinate pork. We often make it with lamb, and I do have a lamb recipe on my site. Lots of onions give great flavor! :-)
Peter's Food Adventures I’ll check out your website for the recipe. Thanks!
@@petersfoodadventures Caucasian shashlyk is a alternating skewered meat and vegetables. Tomatoes, onions, eggplant. They are baked and take on a specific taste.
It reminded me of the game Plants vs zombies.
Yes, I live in Moscow and also have a dacha))
my favorite barries !
wake up with a lot of food you are thebetter life dacha garden its the great life this era
We've gathered 46 melons and watermelons this summer on our dacha near Moscow. Unusually hot summer :)
Oh wow! Well done!!! Nothing is better than homegrown arbuz!
Your Russian is perfect! How did you get to this level, Peter?
Thanks Ilya, not perfect but I can definitely get around Russia! I was visiting family, even though I was born overseas, we always spoke Russian at home.
now in the war are still enjoying live, stay safe, inflation brother
Spettacolo meraviglioso
Qual è la città?
❤👌
These people have so little modern items and are so very happy
this is just the summer garden cottage, not where they live. Their homes have all the mod cons, the cabins are rustic - but very true that they are so happy
Can you divulge the details on the Shashlik? I would love to make it? Cheers!
from memory, my uncle used pork neck, and it was marinated with lots of onions, a bit of soy sauce (just a bit - not enough to make it asian) and salt and pepper. Here is more details how it's done :-) petersfoodadventures.com/shashlik/
I do love the musics. Who is it?
Thanks, it's called Russian dance, and it was something supplied by TH-cam Audio 👍🏻

What is the melody caöled? :D

It is good if you have an investment portfolio and you msy not to go to work.
i want to marry a russian village girl...........i am an indian
Oh my goodness, what kind of music is that? Sounds like something either South Slavic or West Slavic, or maybe something Albanian or Yiddish. The fiddles are definitely non-Slavic. Can't say it fits into the Russian ( East Slavic) scene. The difference would be similar to that of Scottish and Irish music. Both Celtic but not the same.
The music was very nice and fitted the scenery video İ do not know about the background Info you give but sounds nice and fits the gardens cheerful atmosphere
