What I love with Iga is that she never complained about the bad conditions during the tournament. She received lots of tough criticisms after her defeat in US Open but she kept on working and making progress with a sane and positive mindset. She comes back better than before. I don't think that Saba expected to be #1 this year even if she knew that she improved greatly. At the beginning of the season Swiatek had 11 000, Saba 4500 points. WTA is build on last 52 weeks so it seemed that one season is not enough for Swiatek to lost #1 no matter how good new #1 would be. But Saba had impressive season start, on the other side Swiatek started below expectations. Just after AO Swiatek lost 3500 points of her advantage (Saba get 2500 for AO + Adelaide, Swiatek lost many points for AO 2022 SF). I would say that since April they were already very close within 1000 difference and since then it was hard to predict who will be #1 at the end of the season, it could go both ways at any moment of the seasons.

She is nowhere near as dominate as Federer. Graf was WTA version of Federer or vice versa & Henin also came close to Federer in terms of grace & elegance but didn't have Graf or Federer like dominance.

What a win for IGA! She’s totally back. When she plays with no pressure, nobody can really stop her. And who would have thought that this was Iga’s easiest match in this whole WTA finals?? What a disaster for Jessica, knowing she convincingly defeated Rybakina and Aryna in the RR. Iga is not only the world’s number 1, but also is the best player right now in WTA. No doubt.
Absolutely agree - when she is rested, and there’s no pressure, Iga has no opponents currently, I think she is maturing, she is learning how to navigate, and how to let the pressure stay in the changing room. She has an amazing psychologist working with her, I think it’s the key element in her game - stay focused, composed, don’t let any emotions control the game. Wow. That wasn't a tennis match - it was a demolition. Given how well Jessica had been playing, I thought she would at least be able to make a match of it, but it was no contest. It was probably mostly Jessica crumbling in the face of the barrage of shots coming her way, but it looked like she was making unforced errors too and picked the wrong opponent to have a let-down against. I love both these players - hard working, humble, thoughtful, and very good seeming human beings. It's great to see either of them succeed. It was a little hard to see Jessica get whooped this badly. I'm sure she felt really bad about it. Congrats to Iga. She put on an amazing display of tennis skills and determination.
Iga has potential to be even more dominant next year, she just need to find better balance between training/rest and tournaments. This year was very tough for her as at the beginning she lost a lot of points due injuries. She skipped Adelaide, Miami (when she won in 2022), had rib injury in Indiana Wells, had to retire in Rome quarter against Rybakina. She was forced to play more intensively in 2nd part of the season to keep safe distance from Sabalenka. She played 68 singles, Sabalenka 54. Because of constant pressure she could not take a longer break and that was all she needed to get back to her best shape. 3 weeks after US Open she won 2 most important tournaments: Open China and now WTA Finals, having victories over all this year grand slam winners and taking revenge on Gauff and Pegula for her loses at Canadian tour and finishing their winning streak.

Iga has probably been the best player towards the end of the year. Gauff was impressive in winning the US Open, but I doubt she'd have beaten Iga to do so. She's battered all of her opponents the past week. I'm not actually surprised about this match, despite Pegula being in form, because Iga is miles ahead of her on top form. She even had less recovery time from the semis. I just wish she could develop her grass game more, although I still reckon her biggest opponent is herself.

She's baaaaack... 1GA! I'm surprised how decisive the match was considering how good Pegula's form had been in the group stage and semi-final. The emotional toll of destroying 3 Grand Slam champions was probably too much to then take on the best of them all combined. Iga was on another level though. She saved her best for last

What I love with Iga is that she never complained about the bad conditions during the tournament. She received lots of tough criticisms after her defeat in US Open but she kept on working and making progress with a sane and positive mindset. She comes back better than before. I don't think that Saba expected to be #1 this year even if she knew that she improved greatly. At the beginning of the season Swiatek had 11 000, Saba 4500 points. WTA is build on last 52 weeks so it seemed that one season is not enough for Swiatek to lost #1 no matter how good new #1 would be. But Saba had impressive season start, on the other side Swiatek started below expectations. Just after AO Swiatek lost 3500 points of her advantage (Saba get 2500 for AO + Adelaide, Swiatek lost many points for AO 2022 SF). I would say that since April they were already very close within 1000 difference and since then it was hard to predict who will be #1 at the end of the season, it could go both ways at any moment of the seasons.
Iga is so damn consistent. Her grounstrokes, her footwork, and now even her serves are so consistent. She also has one of the best tennis IQ on tour. Her ball placement is fantastic

Absolutely agree - when she is rested, and there’s no pressure, Iga has no opponents currently, I think she is maturing, she is learning how to navigate, and how to let the pressure stay in the changing room. She has an amazing psychologist working with her, I think it’s the key element in her game - stay focused, composed, don’t let any emotions control the game. She will have amazing 2024, not that many points to defend. She will dominate.

Wow. That wasn't a tennis match - it was a demolition. Given how well Jessica had been playing, I thought she would at least be able to make a match of it, but it was no contest. It was probably mostly Jessica crumbling in the face of the barrage of shots coming her way, but it looked like she was making unforced errors too and picked the wrong opponent to have a let-down against. I love both these players - hard working, humble, thoughtful, and very good seeming human beings. It's great to see either of them succeed. It was a little hard to see Jessica get whooped this badly. I'm sure she felt really bad about it. Congrats to Iga. She put on an amazing display of tennis skills and determination.

It's just insane to think she's just 22 and getting started. What a beast.
Iga has potential to be even more dominant next year, she just need to find better balance between training/rest and tournaments. This year was very tough for her as at the beginning she lost a lot of points due injuries. She skipped Adelaide, Miami (when she won in 2022), had rib injury in Indiana Wells, had to retire in Rome quarter against Rybakina. She was forced to play more intensively in 2nd part of the season to keep safe distance from Sabalenka. She played 68 singles, Sabalenka 54. Because of constant pressure she could not take a longer break and that was all she needed to get back to her best shape. 3 weeks after US Open she won 2 most important tournaments: Open China and now WTA Finals, having victories over all this year grand slam winners and taking revenge on Gauff and Pegula for her loses at Canadian tour and finishing their winning streak.

Iga has probably been the best player towards the end of the year. Gauff was impressive in winning the US Open, but I doubt she'd have beaten Iga to do so. She's battered all of her opponents the past week. I'm not actually surprised about this match, despite Pegula being in form, because Iga is miles ahead of her on top form. She even had less recovery time from the semis. I just wish she could develop her grass game more, although I still reckon her biggest opponent is herself.
