@@8avexp @Bavexp: I think the South Shore Line needs to be able to go back to downtown South Bend. Perhaps then they can double track east to South Bend.
It would be cool if they could just widen the street a bit and have double track street running, I know it’s a little more dangerous but, double track street running did exist, just as a minor precaution when two trains pass each other in the street for them to slow down just a bit until they pass each then resume normal street running speed. As I double tracked running did exist, also somewhat still does in Jack London Square in Oakland California, but also any street cars lines still operating such as SEPTA are double tracked but just trolley cars.
@@LibertyRailfan It would have been simpler to widen 10th and 11th Streets in Michigan City IN. It's sad how people are forced to move businesses and residents alike.
I think the remainder of the line east of Michigan City IN should be double tracked as the final faze of improvements and speed up service from South Bend International Airport.
Agreed. But… will never happen in our lifetime or our children’s. The ineptitude of City/County politicians who are only interested in re-election… plus… no real plan in place (downtown South Bend is the only real plan) and, most importantly… no funding… makes the final improvement only a dream.
How would that possibly speed up the train? The only possible way is if they had meets were trains passed each other. There just isn't enough demand. The last time I rode it, they dropped most of the cars in Michigan City and only sent two cars on to South Bend.
@@ArtStoneUS There's been many times though I've seen 8 or 10 car trainsets going to the South Bend International Airport. I think the ridership demand to South Bend International Airport will increase over time.
@@albertcarello619Never has there been a 10 car consist going into or out of South Bend, I can assure you that. Eight cars yes, but usually 2 or 3 of them are not even used coming out of south bend. A double track to south bend will never happen. That stop would be eliminated before a double track would be built. It just is what it is.
@@daveyoung5445 I remember on the North Shore Line trains the horns non-stop. Those trains were even faster than the South Shore Line trains going close to 80 miles an hour. At night you could see the wires arcing those trains were going so fast. I think they made the South Shore Line trains look as though they were standing still by comparison. In Milwaukee city streets the trains were restricted from using the horns and whistles and used the trolley gongs. Only in emergencies did the North Shore Line trains used the horns or whistles in street running.
Excellent video...someday I would love to drive a Train, even for this Company South Shore.
James, thanks 😊! Russ
@@russellsharptrainvideos ,you're welcome my friend.
Great video, cheers, or toast to the street running may we have our memories last forever of it! Awesome video Russell!
Liberty Railfan, thanks 🙏! Russ
I still remember when South Shore trains went all the way to downtown South Bend.
So do I! That was cool 😎!

Were you in old Highliners or New Highliners?
JKJ Transit, as I recall, they were single level cars. Russ
Its like stepping back in time railroad wise. Even if its late as 2021.I Iast road the SouthShore street running route in 2019.
John, I sure agree 👍!
Choo choo! I'm a train and I approve this video ! :)
This street running and trackage reminds me of North Shore Line's Shore Line Route.

Albert Carello, cool 😎! Russ
Auburn indiana had interurban street tracksge all the way down Ensly Ave until the late 1930s so yeah, pretty cool.
Nice! Glad I got to see the street running before they ripped it up.
Thanks!
I remember seeing the Little Joes in Gary back when I was a kid in the 60s.
Robert, I happily remember seeing them also.
Who is joe
My imposible dream, be train conductor. 😢
El Caballo Loco, hoping you realize your dream!

Not really much different than the interurbans of 100 year's ago.
Eric, you betcha!
Got a gal driving that train.
That’s right.
She's an engineer, not a lady motorman.
Gotcha.
That s quite alright The girl train driver

The masks are so ?????
@kendaugherty8092: The COVID-19 PANDEMIC is here to stay indefinitely forever!
She looks like my X wife about 20 years ago It sure would like to run the train! Except for the horn almost non stop.
