    I've had my big Berkey for about 20 years and absolutely love it. I only changed filters once at about 10 years and probably didn't need to so the filters I have now is about 10 years old. I found the way I clean them now is with vinegar and after just one flush you don't taste vinegar at all and your filters stay in perfect condition.

      @@LDSPrepper I just install the filters backwards so they're down in the bottom tank then I put a couple of cups of vinegar along with 2 gallons of distilled water then that does like a back flush and it seems to work really good, I heard that the distilled water pulls out any minerals that may be trapped in the filter. I forgot to mention that's also a good way to Prime the filters.

    You can use a simple ketchup or mustard bottle with a tapered end to p prime the filters, it works great if you don't have water pressure. Just pour water in the container and insert it into the filter and squeeze, it primers them very quickly.

    • @LDSPrepper
      @LDSPrepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that works great, as long as you have clean water to put into the ketchup bottle. You don't have to have clean water if you use the Berkey black filter primer.

      Yes, we use about 2 gallons of the filtered Berkey water. We store the Berkey water in sterilized glass jars and use that in the ketchup bottle to prime with after we clean our filters.

    O my Lord.You just blessed me.l needed to change my filters out but struggled to afford them.l just heard the news about Berkeys trouble with the government (what a load of crock) and tried to order them but every wear is sold out ,but I remembered your video on how you stand by Berkey and will continue to sale and promote Berkey.I just brought two filters from you🙌🏻I don’t even know if they are the right size 🙏because I had to move quickly before you sold out too. What a blessing 👍

    I just bought a Travel Berkey which holds 1.5 gallons. There are two of us. I love that it is filled up each day. I only inserted one filter and plugged the other hole. We still have plenty of very fresh water and it is simple to frequently clean that bottom tank. I don’t like that there is standing water down there, so it’s nice to have a smaller unit that cleans easily. I used a condiment bottle to prime mine.

    Most other systems today come with stainless water faucet without paying extra like Berkey. Some other filters do not need to be primed. So many more options now than just the EXPENSIVE Berkey

    David, I live by myself and I bought the Crown model many years ago. I bought this model for one reason and one reason only and here it is. I don't consume directly from the resorive itself. I have a couple of ceramic gravity dispensers, one for the house and another one out in my shop. I use 5 gallon bottles to invert and set on top of the dispensers and consume from them. If I am going camping I just put a 5 gallon jug in my truck and I'm good to go. With the crowns 6 gallon capacity I top my unit off before bed time and then in the morning it's finished doing what it does best and I can then fill an entire bottle without having to refill the top and wait for it to finish. So around here it's 5 gallons in and 5 gallons out. And since speed is not an issue I only use 2 elements in my crown.

    The best system for me is the plastic Berkey Light I’ve had for nearly 20 years. I use 2 black berkey filters. There aren’t a bunch of plugged holes on the top tank that could leak, and I can clearly see both chambers at a glance. I love it!! 👍

    Without the sight glass spigot, how would you know how much water is left in the lower compartment? If family members start filling up the upper compartment with water without checking the lower compartment, would the water leak out over the top of the lower compartment?

    So it's better to put in less water, one pitcher at a time at the top, so it's filtering slower than just passing through like the speed of urine?

    Have you ever run sea water through a Berkey. I'm asking because I live in a coastal zone which could get hit by a tsunami. If that happens there will be lots of brackish sea water. I'd love to be able to filter it. Thanx.

    I am surprised that filters last for 6000 galons or 8 - 12 years. In Slovenia we use MAF-10 inline 10" filters. They can deliver 3 gal/min. But they require replacement after 1- 2 years or 2000 galons. The filter is active carbon block with 0,01mcr holow fibres. They have bacterial cert. ASTM 838 and chemical NSF53 cert. I have no clue why ours does last less long as berky?
    Do Berkys have silver coating or how they prevent to grow more bacteria. As our filter specialist warned that clogged carbon filters may leach chemicals and bacteria into drinking water. As clogged carbon stops bonding with new contaminants but water flows thrrough. Rather clean well water is fine, but filter at room temperature is cozy for bacteria, tho i ve seen good results from your 8yr. berky in last video.

    • @LDSPrepper
      @LDSPrepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct, they have silver as one of the elements in the filter.

    My Big Berkey doesn't clean my tap water to make it taste better. Tastes like soap. I have to run that water through a "Zero" pitcher filter to get my water to taste like water. Is it even potable with your filter if I don't see rain or pond water? Don't you have any better filters than the soapy tasting carbon filters? And I have to dismantle & clean them monthly.
    Humbug!!!

      So sorry to hear that. Did the. Lack filter do well when it was new? Did it pass the red dye test? Did Berkey help you with this? There is a prorated guarantee on the filters. I don’t remember for how long.
