First Start in 10yrs for Honda's BIGGEST V-TWIN!

  • After rebuilding and cleaning the entire fuel system, polishing allll the chrome, and correcting the paint, we finally try to start Honda's biggest v-twin for the first time in 10 years.
    Things don't go according to plan right away, but there's a happy ending.
    After putting a fresh battery in it we tested whether it would crank or not. It sure did....and wouldn't stop. A few taps on the solenoid fixed the issue and then we were ready for fuel. With fuel, and a few primes of the fuel pump, it snap-crakle-popped to life and settled into a smooth idle pretty quickly.
    The rumble is perfect out of the V&H longshots, not too crazy but not too tame either.
    Next week we'll take it out on it's maiden voyage!
    Be sure to go back and watch all the previous videos in this playlist as we get this 800lb paperweight back on the road:

    nice find, still has more mileage than my 2005 VTX1800F. mine was in storage from 2006 until August 2021 due to having a kid and not wanting to orphan her, I had a bad motorcycle accident on my CBR during her mothers pregnancy, so the VTX got put up. Just pulled it out last August with 2,900 miles on it. Was properly stored fluid free, and fired right up with fresh fuel and oil. Gotta love Honda.

      Wow! My wife and I just had our first baby and I find myself working on bikes much more than riding them lately... So I get it!

      @@two-cargarage my accident in 2003 was a bad one, left me in a wheel chair for nearly 2 years. my daughter was born in 2004, after I started walking again I started riding again, but then became a single dad. mom and I split, and I got full custody. So bikes got put up. daughter is 17 now and heading off to college in a few months, so I pulled out the bikes and got them back to working order.
      The VTX is currently down since Dec. for 240 rear tire conversion, paint, and some updating of the overall look. should be back on the road in another 2 weeks.

      magna's were fast bikes, even the 750's could haul! The carbs aren't much fun rebuilding though.

    Wow, that bike has a whole life ahead of it :D love it! I'm seeing these bikes run out to 150k+ now! So that thing isn't even broken in yet, lol. I rescued a mobbed out 03' 1800R from an absolute idiot of an owner. The guy blanket painted over EVERYTHING, without regard to function :'( she still runs, and very well...somehow Oo he even got paint on the sidewalls of the rock hard, and very cupped tires(replaced), it's going to take me a very long time to bring this thing back, but I intend to focus on one part at a time, and enjoy the journey, as my budget allows. Hopefully I'll end up with a bike that I'm happy to own indefinitely :) ....even the billet wheels, the final drive(yes relief valve too) >< I just do not understand some people. I trade a Suzuki S40 for it, so even as it is, I consider it an "okish" deal, that little thumper was fun, but I was simply too tall for it, and did not enjoy the cramped position, better days ahead I hope.

    • @two-cargarage
      @two-cargarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      that s40 is just a small bike, you sure upgraded with the 1800r! well...that's without me seeing all the spray paint! haha. Have fun getting it cleaned up, it sounds like you'll have a great bike when you're done with it

    When I bought my 05 VTX1800F in 2019 it only had 2562 miles on it. It is a heavy bike, so Sometimes they just don't get ridden.

      @two-cargarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's weird how certain bikes just don't get ridden by people much so there's many with low miles

    MAN DON'T YOU JUST LOVE HONDA??? 10 YEARS AND IT RUNS WITH MINIMAL EFFORT. THESE BIKES ARE BULLET PROOF AND TOTALLY RELIABLE. YOU HAVE A ROAD BEAST THERE. RIDE HER WITH A SMILE AND JUST BLOW AWAY THE OTHER JUNK BIKES ON THE ROAD.

    Can you explain how to reinstall the hypercharger with pair mod done? Not certain on what needs to be blocked off and what gets connected. My butterflies dont budge.

    • @two-cargarage
      @two-cargarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The butterflies on the hypercharger function off of vacuum. So you should have vacuum lines hooked up to it. More throttle equals more vacuum pressure equals the butterflies opening more.
      Unfortunately, I don't have the bike anymore so I can't look at it and tell you where those vacuum lines are split from though.
      If I recall correctly, the pair mod only eliminates a large vacuum line returning into the air box, so it shouldn't affect how the hypercharger is installed

    So, did you change the solenoid?
    2001 gxsr-600 same issues. Bike cranks-no start without starter fluid ???? But when those fumes burn off so does the bike. I’m so lost. “1st bike”

    • @two-cargarage
      @two-cargarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did end up changing the starter solenoid because it was sticking open.
      Your problem sounds like you're just not getting fuel. When you switch the bike to the on position you should hear the fuel pump prime. If it's not priming then you have a fuel pump issue or an electrical issue powering the fuel pump

    I am trading for a 03 VTX 1800 , it will not start , I don't believe the fuel pump is working or not getting power. Will check the fuses and relay first ?

    • @two-cargarage
      @two-cargarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it cranks but doesn't start: you should hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to "on". If it doesn't, then you know you're not getting power to the pump. if that's the case certainly check fuses and relays first.
