at this point you should’ve built the tamiya kit and used the top gun decals

That's what I did. I only bought the revell kit for the decals.

Love the overall look and a great finish, something I have learnt recently is to apply a gloss varnish to the whole model to seal everything in before applying decals, then glossing the decals before finishing off with a matt varnish would hide the clear edges of the decals.

Everyone that is an experienced modeler knows that, about the gloss coat.ir helps the decals to not silver.

Thank you for showing how you did the model. I have the Box laying on my tablet together with the F/A-18E Topgun and the big F/A-18F.
I haven't done a jet before, so this was a great help. With the accent color and dirting.
I have to say it looks like you got a old kit before revell revamped themselves. Mine has a different decal paper and a colored instruction also the part quality is more precise.
Interestingly, I ordered mine July 2021 and you building it November 2021. Looks like you sadly got a old kit.

This is the original Monogram kit from 1981. Interestingly they give you decals for the drop tanks but there are no tanks in the kit.

I just got one and the fit at the front of the nose if off by more than 3/4 of a cm

I like building the older Monogram kits. Monograms F-14 looks great even with raised panel lines. And it's a whole lot cheaper than the Tamiya kit.

One detail you forgot, In top gun, the F-14's used were F-14 A's and the exhaust nozzle were painted black rather than the silver used in later Versions of the tomcat, but other than that, it looks great.

I love the add-ons, don't get me wrong...but don't ever recall seeing them on an "A" model and never in the movie

Why would you load out an A model Tomcat like it's a B model??? A models didn't have air to ground abilities only the B and D did.
but Top Gun movie was made in 1986 , so the F14 A Tomcat would have been F14B model used in the movie .
@@amuxpatch2798 actually they were not B models they were A+ because they still had the TF-30 and no active air to ground, not for another two years.

I had lots of issues with the joins in front of the wings splitting when I swept the wings
Yes there are some interference in between wings and fuselage.
Very good job! You have skills. May i ask what needle that was used for the base color and what was the reason exactly for the red spots?
Thank you so much for your comment!! I use airbrush master model G22 0.3mm needle, and red and blue spots are accents for the base color. I hope those answered your question. Please let me know if you need more clarification, thanks!
Hi there, great job! Just wondering how you fit the pilot figure in the back seat? There doesn’t seem to be room for his legs to fit between the console and the seat. I’m building this kit at the moment

Hmm - except this isn't just a Revell build - which was what I was looking for. Lovely work btw but a bit of a 'flex' re your skills as you need to buy two kits to get the overall effect as the Tamiya one is almost double/triple the price of the Revell kit. A more accurate title to your vid would be useful.

I, too, wondered why you didn't build the Tamiya kit, but I thought you may have had some left-over Tamiya parts that you could incorporate into the Revell.
I wondered why you didn't pain the helmets of the figures as Maverick and Goose.
There are ways to avoid the shiny decal reflections that I see on the final show.
But....I appreciate your video and I like your resulting paint job. Thank you for doing this film for us.

I'm buying the paints for this model soon, I'm a paint brusher because I don't own an air brush, how would I get the shadows on the panel lines etc and
I’m using this brand. Lowest model is around $100 including everything to start.
For shadow, you can brush on panel line before or after fuselage paint in your preference. Enjoy modeling!

@@platoki brush with what paint? I've ordered the paints today from the guide on Amazon where I bought it
I use TAMIYA acrylic paint ( lacquer paint ins no available in my country), AK real color and Testers enamel paint mainly. I also use TAMIYA accent color, weathering master, or AK weathering engine oil, et al.
All paint I use is mentioned during video, thank you!
All that work just to use revell's inaccurate Top gun decals. Especially the national insignia "Star and Bar" totally make believe insignias. The Real movie jets used the real American Markings. But you did do a fantastic job on the actual build. The model looks Fantastic!

I agree here, would have more informative to those who only have the Revell kit to just stick with stock rather than source parts elsewhere. At least change the title so we don't waste our time.

I bought this kit a few days ago and this will be the first and last Revell kit I buy. The quality is VERY bad and this was a kit from 2020, I already started painting but in the future I will stick with Tamiya kits, they have molds from 1998 that are better quality...

If real navy aviators saw your model they would be very offended. You can compare it to a Navy Seal without a trident on his chest. And you load your Tomcat with bombs from a former f-4 from the 70's. Don't get me wrong, You are probably a good scale modeller, but you should inform yourself better with navy information because it will offend you a lot that way.
You forgot to stick the navy symbol under the wings, a navy member would beat you up for that.

@@platoki It's not the intention to knock you down or anything, I think the model itself is great, only as a former member of the navy I think you shouldn't forget the symbols, that's a very important detail in the Top Gun movies.

You're plane looks great but your pilot's need work you didn't take time to at least paint the helmets Red and Blue goose and Maverick didn't wear white helmets that's the only inconsistency I see but it's a big deal if you want the plane to be accurate
