I wish they would do another Dirty Rotten Survival season. That show was a lot of fun to watch. I am a fan of the videos and next spring you might find in in a class at the Pathfinder School. Great project with the herb knife.
Dave, I am incredibly grateful to you for all the information, wisdom and entertainment you provide. Not to mention the products you made available on your website. Seriously some of the highest quality gear on the market. Anyway, I just wanted to convey my appreciation and say you are a f*cking legend. God bless, brother.
Cool knife design. Really enjoyed watching you make it. I did some forging in high school shop. It's a very real shame schools don't have shop anymore.
I wish I could have... Mine had a half trade school -no certs. and a bogus small engine repair that was free labor yard appliance repair. By God I'll take Black Smithing after the Army when I bitch out to college
Nice Production piece, I personally enjoy the blacksmithing videos...seems peaceful for me..good filming technique too, but would of liked to seen the finished product featured at the very end like you do on some other projects...it just shows the piece in all its final finished glory...Great job D.
Really good little knife design. It gives you great control. I would use that in the kitchen often, but I would never go backpacking with it. I can process food with a more traditional knife that also has a lot more versatility at the sacrifice is slightly less control in slicing small food items.
Dave, Have a idea for a video. Fruit Harvesting A round cylinder type basket for harvesting mountain blue berry's, etc.. It was approx 12" L x 3" W, The 6" was more of a basket and the top was a rake or fingers. tinger material was about as thick as a kabob I think it was from a Russian trapping documentary. and a simple hook for the end of your walking stick.
Dave, when forging the herb knife could there be an advantage to making the knives to have more of a curve such as a nessmuk style knife or say a slight roach belly on it or is it best to leave the edge side straight and flat? And many thanks for all the knowledge you are departing to us.
Hey dave, Where would I go abouts to look for some steel. My girlfriend is a cook, and I would like to try and make something like this for her. Is there a place online, or is this a just go find a metal shop kind of deal. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
9:57 I would like this knife particularly for this, you can easily mince something with that quick downwards chop where doing it with a straight handled knife would be more complicated. do you shave with a straight razor? making one might be a interesting project for the future
that looks like a good skinning knife especially if the tip was a little more rounded just my opinion but still a great tool as is thanks for all the videos Dave
Nice, I see you got yourself a Hofi hammer! I am thinking bout buying one, do you recommend? Right now i got myself a Alec Steel rounding hammer which I totally recommend if you are looking for another hammer that is capaple of moving heavier stock. I am in the need of a cross peen, and I have heard great things about the Hofi. Thanks
great video and this probably already been said but a slight design change and that can be a multi purpose piece of kit for food prep hides and Flint/Steel combo sorta high bred Olu Inuit knife no I'm spelling that tottaly incorrectly
I got 2 questions for you Dave. 1 what brand anvil are you using and where did you get it and 2 the vise you used on the end of the anvil what brand and where?
+Clayton Lutwyche (Claydogger) This was not meant to be a Hash knife nor an Ulu it does have some curvature to the blade but too much limits its usefulness when harvesting plants as well as cutting meat.
+Tanzell McCrae Seriously? Blacksmithing is one of the MOST important Long term skills anyone can have, everything you use as far as tools is made from metal, you cannot own what you do not practice. I tell my students at the Pathfinder School, to "Do it, till you cant do it wrong"
The depth of Dave’s knowledge is astounding.
I can not think of anyone else that truly understands and lives the American dream. Rock on Dave!
Fast craftsmanship, Dave you are a scholar and a gentleman, keep blowing minds everywhere.

This is my favorite tv show.
best channel on yt definatly
Another in the "Cooking for Rufus" series. Love it.
Nice project, thanks for sharing.
With a little tweak to the blade shape, that would also be an excellent skinning knife too. Nice!
That is quite the beautiful knife.

Hey dave,
Where would I go abouts to look for some steel. My girlfriend is a cook, and I would like to try and make something like this for her. Is there a place online, or is this a just go find a metal shop kind of deal. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
That knife cut better than most all production made kitchen knives.
9:57 I would like this knife particularly for this, you can easily mince something with that quick downwards chop where doing it with a straight handled knife would be more complicated.
do you shave with a straight razor? making one might be a interesting project for the future
Wow..You make it look easy...Awesome tool:')
eres el amo .un saludo desde Cádiz (españa)
that looks like a good skinning knife especially if the tip was a little more rounded just my opinion but still a great tool as is thanks for all the videos Dave
After watching this and subscribing, I know now I need tools.
Nice, I see you got yourself a Hofi hammer! I am thinking bout buying one, do you recommend? +Matt Behnke The Hammer is a Big Blu and I LOVE it-
I'll check it out, what weight? Thanks so much especially for the great videos!
Dave, did you ever do the video on forging a knife from a trap spring?
+Christopher Wood Yep
Going to give this a go,,thanks fr vid. Strangely relaxing too.🙏peace
That's a handy tool, makes you think it might have multiple uses. Have you ever made a knife from a wrench? I think it might make a good blade.
great video and this probably already been said but a slight design change and that can be a multi purpose piece of kit for food prep hides and Flint/Steel combo sorta high bred Olu Inuit knife no I'm spelling that tottaly incorrectly
hey Dave great video would it be worth setting up a little vice to drop down in your hardy hole that would give you four positions to set it up
+James Walters Not sure it would be as stable
Do you have asbestos hands? And sorry if someone else asked, but how long does it take you to do one of these, you make it look so easy!
that's cool. good job
That anvil is beautiful! I don't think I have seen it in past videos. Is it e recent acquisition?
+1tulip It is a Student Anvil one of the 6 we use to teach with at our School
I never saw a knife like that before. what style is that
I got 2 questions for you Dave. 1 what brand anvil are you using and where did you get it and 2 the vise you used on the end of the anvil what brand and where?
+Ak Grizzly Man North Carolina Anvil CO, Vise is on Amazon
Thanks!
I checked out NC Anvil Co. Their anvils are very reasonable. How heavy is the one you use? Is it a descent anvil?
+Ak Grizzly Man This is one of our student anvils it is a 70# Anvil
very cool
That looks like a nice, light little anvil. Where did you pick it up?
that looks like a 100 pound nc farrier anvil so any place that sells to farriers or an online retailer ahould have them or ones similar atleast
Dave? Would it be more effective with a little more belly?
+Greyman Zink With more belly, you could rock it for herbs, which i think are really how these are built usually.
You could shave with it too :) Nice tool!
I was just thinking I'd like to see Dave make a straight razor 😀
Hey next time I think a half moon cutter style would be better.
+Clayton Lutwyche (Claydogger) This was not meant to be a Hash knife nor an Ulu it does have some curvature to the blade but too much limits its usefulness when harvesting plants as well as cutting meat.
+wildernessoutfitters Mmm very fair call
nice
Tx love watching ur vids Dave hope u got to watch my video on making the herb chopper it was one of my first videos
What was the ASU stamp for?
+Kevin smith I'll just leave that one alone LOL
+wildernessoutfitters lol
is that a serious question? lol
+Thomas DeMaio lol
Why do you like blacksmithing so much lol
+Tanzell McCrae Seriously? Blacksmithing is one of the MOST important Long term skills anyone can have, everything you use as far as tools is made from metal, you cannot own what you do not practice. I tell my students at the Pathfinder School, to "Do it, till you cant do it wrong"
Outside of the great content, I think my favorite thing is that you've done away with the opening theme music...
