This game was my childhood and I'm desperately trying to find it again to play it. I hated when my customers were not enjoying the zoo. I'd search the list of unhappy people, make sure they had no trash with them, and lock them with the crocodiles, the lions, or drown them in a remote piece of elevated water terrain. F-them, how dare you not like my zoo?
My brother and I did that, and we were so excited when we realized we could put guests in the aquariums and watch them swim. To this day, I still remember our abject horror as we watched a whale play with a guest and then the guest disappeared and disappeared off the guest list. It was a high price to pay for complaining, lol!
The most enjoyable memories I had with this game is when I fire all the zookeepers and delete the cage wall of all the exhibits after blocking the entrance with a decoration. Or, I would just create a massive exhibits by simply wall off the entrance and place all kinds of animal inside to kill each other, while I laugh maniacally. Am I a terrible person?
This, right here, made my day. Watching this before a big test and honestly don't even care if I fail or pass just cause I got to see a bit of my childhood today

If you hold shift and 4 then you will start to get lots of money, however your fences will break down and your animals will run wild. Fun to do when you have lots of carnivorous dinosaurs.
This game was the definition of my childhood along with Zoo Tycoon 2. I had the complete collections for both. I always played freeform though, with unlimited money. I still went out of my way to please guests and the animals, I just enjoyed not being restricted in any way. With Zoo Tycoon 1 I loved fitting ALL the different animals in a single zoo (minus the dinos and aquariums which got their own zoos). With Zoo Tycoon 2 I tended to keep the dinos and aquarium animals separate from the "normal" animals too. With the space limit for Part 2 though, I put a lot of thought into making 5 or so zoos, making 10 - 11 pens for 10-13 animals in each zoo (I loved combining animal pens when I could for the jeep rides - like my favorite mix - giraffe, zebra, and gazelles). I made sure never to repeat animals and to spread the popular animals and different habitats out (each zoo would get 1 popular animal like a lion, tiger, bear, etc., and every zoo would get an Arctic animal, an African animal, a North American animal, etc.). I just LOVED going into such detailed planning. I also enjoyed making zoos with only 1 gigantic pen in it. My favorites were making a P. Horse pen with like 50 horses, and an African savannah pen with all the animals from that location (Lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, gazelles, zebras, giraffes, african buffalo, etc.). With food and toys and tall grass and trees aplenty, there actually weren't too many deaths in the massive African pen. It was very fun to use the 1st person mode to look at all of them. I wish these games hadn't stopped working/that XP hadn't gotten so buggy. The Nintendo DS versions are poor compared to these. Even the XBox game isn't as good.
I remember playing this and always getting lions, And whenever the Cubs were born I would move them to a small low fenced area as if it were a petting zoo. I would always have them escaping but I never changed and I still might not change when I find my disc again

This is the game of my childhood! And I recently introduced it to my baby brother who's 8 and obsessed with animals and he loves it too! But! We played this scenario 4 times already and never won! The first three times was because of the animals not breeding but the fourth time was the worst because we finished everything in the first year too, just like you, and then just let it run....but the guest happiness started going down in May of the second year and no matter what I did, how many attractions or food stands I built, it never went back up. Ad we lost the game. So I feel slightly upset and jealous watching this..😅
I loved the dinosaur expansion, tho admittedly it was to recreate Jurassic Park by releasing them all on the helpless civilians watching as they were all eaten one by one as I blocked the exits with foliage, rocks and Ice cream stands. Lol
