The best hog attractant starts with corn but it's the secondary ingredients that really create the extra draw. A wild hog's greatest senses are their smell and hearing but don't forget about their amazing sense of taste! Wild hogs can be habitually creatures returning to the same bait area around the same time every day...that is until they are disrupted. Wild hog hunters take advantage of a hog's sense of taste to create that habitual pattern of returning day after day.
It is a well known fact that hogs love corn, they love sour, and they love sweet. That's why the "Root Beer Corn Float" is so effective because it hits all three at once. This is an easy hog bait recipe because you don't have to wait for days for the corn to sour. The milk sours quickly in the heat and creates a sour smell that attract hogs all while keeping other wildlife (like deer) away because they don't like soured corn. The final ingredient of the hog bait recipe is the Root Beer! This is a natural add because Root Beer is actually made from a root which comes from the ground and fits right into the hog's natural diet (they eat everything, even roots!). The sweetness and smell of Root Beer makes this one of the best wild hog baits out there.
In 4 simple steps you can create the best hog attractant for your hunting area:
Step #1- Dig a 3 foot hole with a post hole digger (deeper is ok!)
Step #2- Fill it full of fresh corn (no need to pre-sour)
Step #3- Pour the fresh milk over the corn
Step #4- Pour two cans of Root Beer over the milk and corn
This simple hog bait recipe contains all the ingredients to make the best hog attractant or hog bait. Good luck with you hog hunting and let us know if you give this wild hog bait recipe a try!
    God Bless,
    Steve

This recipe worked great for me over the weekend. Multiple shoots, multiple nights, and they just kept coming back for more. I've never had them keep coming back after being shot at, but this was like crack to them. Will definitely be using this again on future hunts! Thanks!

Does it have to be root beer, can it be coke or Dr Pepper? Bought 50 pounds of corn today.

I do something similar. I buy a couple of 1/2 gallons of buttermilk and leave it out for a week or two to spoil. Then dig the hole and pour the corn in then pour the buttermilk on top of the corn. Cover the corn with a with thin layer of soil. They love it.

It lasted quite a long time because they will keep coming back even after the hole is empty. They can smell the residue for a long time after it soaks into the dirt. I filled the hole twice and it kept the hogs coming back for months. I have even more pictures that aren’t in the video! Take care brother!

I made it here in Hungary/Europe. I bait a totaly new spot to see how good is this receipe. First night I had a nice hog on it, he even laid down to eat! :) Then next day I had him back and plus 3 deers. The deers came every day after, but not the keiler! Maybe next time I make a deep hole for it! Happy New Year and successful hunting for everybody!!!!!!

On average how long would you say the corn lasts? I saw you mention the scent keeps em coming back, but I was just curious as I just joined a hunting club and am wondering how often I will have to refill it.

    • @TheHandyHunter
      @TheHandyHunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hard to say because it depends on your hog density. It could last a day or several weeks. You could always do multiple holes and make them as deep as possible. Try to make it hard for them to get but they will still be able to smell it for a long time. Just have fun with some experiments and a trail cam! Good luck!

It’s ok if the ground soaks it up because it will leave residual smell for weeks. I don’t find that they need to have it sour but the milk will definitely turn sour in the ground. I’ve heard people having better luck with buttermilk over regular milk. Give that a try. Good luck!

I did, slightly different and it works. I put corn in bucket and mix it with beer, after that I leave it on the sun for couple of days just mind to poke some holes cuz a bucket exploded once on me, after it starts to smell kinda strong I do similar thing just I do not dig hole, but use metal pole and hammer and make several smaler but deep holes where I pour that mixture. Wild boars smelled it first time literally 5 hours after I made it, they turned all that land around and digg like 60cm deep trench where those holes were, I repeated process once more and last summer I harvested like 6 boars at that spot, they kept coming...

That day but keep in mind that we have a lot of hogs around and they can smell this far away. Doesn’t take those scavengers long to find anything!
