  • This is a house we did for ROHI Dev. We tried to cover all the bases on what the end user would want in a smart home / automated home with out going over the top. The home allows for direct control of AV equipment and network devices through a control processor that is connected to the network. www.knoxsecurity.com

    This is awesome. I just searched for videos on how to run cat5 from upstairs to the basement and now I'm addicted to watching these videos.

    Glad you were able to find a builder that actually adopts smart home integration, most of them cry about every extra penny spent.

    When you said HDMI cable you mean cat5/6? Converted then to hdmi? Or is hdmi cable the one you are using there ?
    Thanks in advance

    Skynet, I ran all of the wiring that you spoke of in our home, but I have no idea how to get the "IR" wire as you called it.... Can you assist and let us know where you were able to find the IR wire?

    I usually never post on youtube, but what are some good reasons for running IR (i assume cat6) to every room or w/e a digital media hookup location will be at for a smart TV/other scattered throughout the house? I actually couldnt find much on IR and smarthome uses so I had to ask.

    hey great video do you know how can i send audio from a tv to a receiver to listen to the built in apps of the tv over cat6 ?

    • @skynet7408
      @skynet7408  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      your would have to run an optical from the TV to the receiver

    • @freak3dot
      @freak3dot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have two choices. Coax and optical. I prefer the coax with the orange RCA connector. I have also tried the optical connection from my TV to receiver, but find that the sound can cut in and out. It's probably dust in the connection, but that made it less reliable for me. I ran both Coax and optical from behind my main TV to the receiver to give maximum flexibility in the future.

    ISP and cable companies will love this lol I wanna head to on this direction. On running low voltage wires in new construction.. I work for ATT so this will be a piece of cake plus everything now is cat5/6 and even fiber runs from the panel to outside. Any tips on how to get jobs like this? I wanna start doing it on the side with a partner and then take it full time.

    Hi Skynet! I'm in the idea of opening my own low voltage company but I don't know how to price my jobs. Could you help me with some information like:
    How much do you charge per wire drop (cat5 and RG6)?
    Price for a 5.1 surround sound prewire
    Prewire for basic alarm system (1 motion, all doors and windows, 1 keypad)
    And if you have a bid proposal template it would be great.
    I am located in Houston Texas, and my goal is to work in new residential houses. Thanks

      Danny Campos
      I price per drop. each area is different our prices in NJ are different than our prices in AZ. get a feel for your local market. multiple drops in one location get discount after the first drop.

    Great video thanks. Just curious.. Why do we need IR points throughout the house as (like you said) most smart homes of the future will be controlled by smartphones. It is just that I am currently planning out how to wire my new home and am a little confused with all the IR options available. ie: wallplate IR Multizone IR. etc. I am trying to decipher which IR product would be best for a 4or 5 zone home to ONE media closet (below stairs) Just not sure if I can incorporate 5 receivers to feed one emitter (which will probably control a Denon AVR and perhaps a Sonos Connect amp. Any suggestions would be welcome. Cheers

    • @skynet7408
      @skynet7408  ปีที่แล้ว

      The main IR control processor will be located at the rack. This will control all of your TVs and receivers. These control processors are IP based and or RF. So a single controller or phone can be used for whole house. The receiver for your home theater goes in the AV rack too, the Cat wire will be ran from receiver to tv for you video. Hope that helps.

    We are having a house built and pre installing conduit as it is single storey and all walls are solid brick. After watching this I feel a little more competent as I will be doing it all myself with limited knowledge

    • @skynet7408
      @skynet7408  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Conduit / flexible ent is a very smart idea. Keep in mind HDMI runs can go a max of 50ft. For longer runs it is best to use cat5+ or cat6+ & then use a HDMI over cat. I really like wirestorm, rock solid.

    Man that would suck to have had this house built with all that great pre planning and here we are always advancing. Those hdmi cables are probably old spec, lacking the bandwidth for todays components. 🤦🏻‍♂️ probably can’t even handle 4K60 let alone 120 for the latest gen consoles.

    • @skynet7408
      @skynet7408  ปีที่แล้ว

      you are right, tech is advancing! And this house can most definitely do 4KUHD 40M (4K@60 4:4:4) HDR, with an HDBaseT Extender... the extenders will only get better and the Cat6 we ran is still future proof till this day.

    • @skynet7408
      @skynet7408  ปีที่แล้ว

      now, if you want better than this, lets say "8K" streaming... you would place a device like Nvidia Shield or apple TV behind the TV... and if you have 5.1 surround sound you extract the audio back to receiver... perfect for pretty much any set up... with the exception of an audio videophile who needs to have 8K UHD 120+hz, which is done using Blu-ray ultra or their own Video server.... which wasn't necessary since it was for a builder..... buuut if you wanted to you can still use the Nvidia shield for the plex server...

    • @skynet7408

      Very true. we either coil the wire within the wall and pull it out of the mud ring after drywall (track homes). or we work with the drywallers and making sure that the wire is not cut, (custom homes)

      just a standard IR blasters. I'm a fan of RTi's emitters. I was using cat wire for the IR runs. If you cant get an IR wire somewhere or have a detached guest / pool house use Global Cahe IP2IR.. hope everything goes well on your project! keep us posted or make a video of your own.

    • @skynet7408
      @skynet7408  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mantaray sure you could get decent coverage on 2.4ghz in that property depending on the WAP and obsticals other than the wood you see in the framing.... you also have to think of coverage on 5ghz Wi-Fi, and the wireless card in the devices you will be connecting with... the end user can do what ever they want. house is bigger than it looks, vid doesn't show whole house. there is going to be double layer drywall, stone and other obstructions. If it was your house you could do as you please.

    • @matthewmckinney2709
      @matthewmckinney2709 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. For 5.8Ghz, you might need 3 for good coverage. Agreed.
