Excellent video, thanks. Music was spot on for the era too!

Really wish I could visit. Old and broke, though.

I operated the reverser on a dead engine at the Severn Valley Railway, fascinating how heavy it was, it would be of course as it’s adjusting the valves by a great rod or steel plank type of thing, the valves being perhaps twenty or so feet away from the cab, the loco was a cold Hall I think

Would’ve been either 7325 or 7819 Hinton Manor. The reverser on both locos is a little stiffer than a working loco as it hasn’t been lubricated in a while

@JaidencharlotteTo be fair, the reversers on the locos at Highley aren’t too stiff, they’re a lot better than the one I tried when i went to Didcot anyway

Birmingham to London Euston express steam hauled trains used 2 tons of coal.

I hope the fireman was looking at the road, nobody else seemed to be 😂.

I am guessing this was filmed quite a few years ago?

Left the ejector open on a Western engine with a vacuum pump! 😂

It really doesn’t work that well if you’re going slow, and not really much point in this case. Given how quick the brakes came off it’s probably only light engine when they show the in-cab shots.

@BrokenIET I know, I work as an engineer on a railway with a mostly-GW fleet, but once up to a speed of 10-15mph the large ejector can be closed, allowing the vacuum pump to maintain the train pipe vacuum. If anything, the fact it may be light engine should mean the ejector can be closed even sooner, as the pump will quickly get to a speed at which it can maintain a vacuum!

@ Oh cool, where do you work out of curiosity, if I’m not being too nosy?
