it can also take a while before your beats even sound decent so new producers shouldnt get discouraged if they cant make something that sounds professional out the gate
God Bless Sownds! It's been my dream since I was 12 yrs old listening to Enter the Wu-Tang 36 Chambers album to make music. I got locked up at a young age and had mad cost and fines and ended up having two kids by the time I was 20. They changed my life and I stopped running wild and my dream to make music pretty much went on the back burner. It was time for me to be a man and work hard to take care of my family. Well my oldest is gonna be 12 soon so time has passed me by, but my dream is still alive. I'm to the point where I'm now financially stable enough to start buying equipment and this video along with other videos such as Mr. Green's Live From The Streets videos has given me some ideas and motivation to start piecing together a little studio. I love the culture of Hip Hop, it's the greatest form of art. I'm not trying to get rich or be known worldwide I just want to make beats that I love to listen to. I got friends that are emcees and have done shows in the Pittsburgh/Central PA area. There are several cats with studios making music in my area but they're on that trap get money shit...I'm not knocking anyones hustle but thats not my style. Thank you for posting these videos and helping to light that fire. Peace
Real talk, Anyone looking into making beats or starting out. Learn your equipment and how to use it THEN! start making music. If you know how your hardware/software works will allow you to use your creativity in the moment. Being halted by silly things like not knowing how to chop or change to new tracks or load drums or w.e will piss you off. Learn your shit first then get creative
FOr everyone starting out remember everyone learns diffrent but everyone can learn dont get discouraged if you see a dude making a hot beat and you still cant chop a sample keep hittin hit and find your nich you might be the next or new sound that might even change the game
Great advice. And I listened to your song at the end and I gota say that's some real stuff. Nice beat and nice lyrics with meaning to them. Keep up the hustle.
you right about the part where you said -sit for hours and nothing comes out!! thats what make you better all you do is let your ear take a break until the next day i must agree with you because it could be discouraging once great video bro
i completely agree with you man! making good beats is hard, it takes countless time, effort and practice. you have amazing rhymes to bro! much respect to you!!
Really admire your hardwork man. Im just now beginning. Kinda trying to get the ropes, but I appreciate stuff like this! Thanks man! keep up the hardwork
Nice tips man! I'm a young dj and producer I've started the whole music thing about 6 years ago when I was about 15 I started djing I didn't start making beats about over 2 years ago and djing first helped me produce a lil better because of cues counting bars and just listening to various elements ect all helps, I make rap/trap and Edm type beats and I find that making and listening to various music styles helps you to. Lastly just listening to reference tracks or anything like radio other beats ect helps to cheers!
Yeah i think wht u said is very true especially the part about when u make beats around people ….. I have the Same experience every time people get tired of listening to the same thing over and over again. But i seem to have no prob with hearing the same samples for many hours untill i chopped them the right way!!! Its all about patience ….Like you said i think it is one thing to start with something but another to create sounds from scratch .
I been experimenting & teaching myself (reggae) production...So many beats I start, an so few I eva finish...hahaha. Many sound great half way thru.. an then start sounding weak afta a while an I lose interest...Instead finishin I start getting keener on progressin anotha one jus started up. Its hard for me to finish stuff.
Thats a very good advice for the new beatmakers. heh been making beats for 3 years now and u even reminded me stuff lol. Anyways great video man and keep them comin i think world need more ppl like you, to teach stuff about beats etc. Have a good day!
If it's cool can u make a video explaining your process for find samples. Cuz I do original beats but Im starting to get into sampling but I can never really think of anything off the top of my head that I can sample nor can I really think of where to find samples to use and how to find them. I really appreciate the videos and I wish you much luck on your album man.
I don't TRY to make anything... I just throw a bunch of Stuff I like together. [ACAPELLA VOCAL SAMPLES, HOMEMADE SOUNDS, Pianos] The Result is Always Trippy! I think I Would have Been Held back if I was Like "I wanna Make beats like [Insert Producer]". Basically I Just experiment and Play until Something hot pops up
True stuff, also there's just about every midi keyboard that you buy brand new comes with studio software to start right out of the box, you then just need a good strong computer, studio monitor speakers, headphones and a 80 to 100 dollar usb mic.
Thank you for the video man. I still haven't started to dedicate myself to the learning process. Thinking bout learning Fl and getting a cheap midi keyboard, I have headphones and a PC. How do you feel about all the extra buttons and knobs on some midi keyboards, you think they're necessary? Or do you think just the keys would work and go along ways. Music is a beautiful way to deal with life, I learned guitar for the past 8 months. Hoping I can get into electronic beat making because of its diverse sounds available to express yourself. Anyway I'm fucking rambling. Pce the fuck out. Keep it up man.
Yo man, I been playing guitar for 15 years. I first got FLS when i was in high school 8 years ago and i'm still using it every day, and i started on a laptop and with headphones, then i eventually got my first midi controller. Now about the midi controllers the buttons and knobs aren't really all that necessary. Those are basically for you to set that physical knob to make a virtual knob inside the program move in order to control pitch bend, volume, modulation, octave jumps, play/stop functions etc. but it isn't that complicated of a process once you learn the ins & outs of midi. Make sure you get a midi controller that has a usb port on it if you do get one, or if you have a midi interface or an audio/midi interface, then you could run it through that, but that's a little more costly. But for real, learn the process, and then learn the controls, then apply your creativity. Also, use the things that you learn on guitar and apply them on the keyboard and in FLS. In doing so, you will learn, and very deeply understand music theory. Don't lose patience and find your inspiration. "Inspiration is found everywhere if you look hard enough" -RZA I'm high as fuck. @sownds08 Shout out NY, thanks for sharing your expertise of the art. Pce ya'll
LOL it takes me an hour to pick instrument s on maschine I only made 2 beats and all I gota do is know how to use the grid in where to put my drums at on my beats so they line up with the beat that's it in gona work on beat 3 tomorrow
I'm 14, It seems hard for me, mostly because I'm white and people say I can't rap or do music because I'm white. I've been thinking and wanting to be a producer burning don't know where to start. Honestly this helped and youve gave me some motivation. You have some sick beats and thank you for taking your time to discuss this.
Michael Ben you would need a mixer to hook the turntable into through the phono input and then hook the usb of the mixer ( if it has one ) into your computer. if your mixer doesn't have usb you're going to need an audio interface to hook the mixer into and then connect the audio interface into the computer using usb.
im trying to make beats for my raps but I don't have the right equipment so this is kinda hard for me to understand all this im only 14 your vid does help though.
Axioms are a decent start but unless you go for something with like 49 keys you'll probably outgrow it quick especially if you're thinking about doing chords and progressions. Personally I would skip on one with pads and get a MPD or Maschine in the future instead. I would opt for a 49 Key Keyboard instead of a 25 Key with Pads but thats just my preference. I have an MPK49 and the Pads are the thing I use the least.
Hey bro, I got some KRK 5s this weekend and they have been a real headache trying to sort out, right now my setup consists of my computer, a DDJ SB2 DJ controller, and a single KRK 5, my computer has a really bad in built sound card, so when I connected my computer to the KRK it sounded terrible, using the same cable I connected it to my DJ controller and it sounded slightly better, but still no bass at all like the speakers are known for, so now i need help figuring out what is best to buy to make these speakers sound good in my setup out of a audio interface or a mixer?
i only bought a single KRK, but i realised to make the best of them you need 2 of em, so im going to return it and buy a bundle with 2 Rokit 5s and a Focusrite Scarlet audio interface, hopefully when i hook the speakers up through the Scarlet i will get a good sound out of them
real dope man. Im very impressed by your music. Your beats are solid and you can tell you love that boom bap flavor. Im just like you, I have my own home studio. I started writing first, then got sick of using other peoples beats. So I went on a quest to learn how to make my own. I was very discouraged at first. But I kept at it and finally found a basic formula to work with. I am getting better and better. Its too fucking fun. check my music out at soundcloud.com/skelly991

SLICEX in FL studio actually makes it easy to strip and loop existing tracks to make your own... but yes... time consuming for sure.
Yo great videos I've bin making beats for some years now still learning shit
what's the name of the track at the end? I really like it, its nice and raw at the same time (beat, rap delivery and flow)
what's up with that song at the end that shits tight

Спасибо !!! Приятно было послушать !

Bro just Bc u white don't meant U can't produce
RJ is DEAD You seem like you want to be oppressed or something. Shut the fuck up.
whats going to be my biggest wall? sonically? if $ isnt an option as far as equipment
What about sampling from vinyl?
How would you connect the vinyl record player to the computer?
Michael Ben you would need a mixer to hook the turntable into through the phono input and then hook the usb of the mixer
( if it has one ) into your computer. if your mixer doesn't have usb you're going to need an audio interface to hook the mixer into and then connect the audio interface into the computer using usb.
sound card ?
PHAT snippet at the end. Sounds a bit like Oddisee.
