Depends what you mean by 'windy conditions' 30 - 40mph I wouldn't be using a surface lure anyway. I find it works well when there is a chop on the water but would opt for the 110mm in windy conditions. As for casting distance.... that will depend on your casting style. When it's windy I like to use a side cast the lure isn't high in the air.

I just find it all so confusing. Bought a cheap rod and reel combo last year and some feathers, could loads of mackerel and thought this was the hobby for me but Jesus Christ it's overwhelming when you start to look into it
It's a mine field, but it doesn't have to be, you need, rod and reel (which it sounds like you already have) Surface lures, I can't recommend the Espetit enough.( luresedge.com/) Soft plastics, hooks, sub surface and a couple metal lures.
