    to add if I may, cut your brush bristles down with the scissors first, this will allow you to consolidate the glass a lot easier. makes a lot of difference when you can't use a consolidating roller.
    personally I chamfer the edges of the boards failures to allow your glass (or epoxy with fibres) to come in contact with the boards face this gives you a load bearing edge that can be feathered into the board and no need for filler, or less of it.
    i dont like to add metal they rust enough as it is !

    In addition to this tutorial I would advocate the use of gloves when using epoxy as this stuff goes direct to the bloodstream and can cause skin irritations. If you don't wear eye protection and get this in your eyes you could be in trouble. Breathing the sanding dust from epoxy (or filler) can be dangerous so wear a mask or respirator. Apart from that, a good tutorial.

    Hi. I have a crack in my rudder. Should I drill/cut around it to make a groove before applying fibreglass/epoxy, or just put epoxy straight into the crack.
    Thanks

    Very interesting. For your next tutorial I would like to learn how to repair a hair dryer damaged carpet and clean my teeth with a budgie.

    Will IPA do instead of acetone? I've just bought my first boat (old Graduate) . The entire leading edge of the centreboard is sort of gone. There's some pins sticking out. Hopefully this method will work on that.

    Is the finish class legal?

    Very helpful video, thanks. Maybe the use of brass pins would be better than steel.

      Why would brass be better than steel? (Less rust?)

      Stainless steel would be better than brass as they will be stronger.

    Hi, if there is a hole in the trailing edge of the foil how likely is it that the structure of the foil has been significantly weakened? How likely would the whole thing be to snap in two, if say trying to right the boat after turning it turtle? Thanks!

      Very unlikely. Most of the load on the daggerboard is taken up by the wider, central part of the foil.

    How much hardener is used with the filler?

    auto body filler? Doesn't that absorb moisture?

    • @al.sargent
      @al.sargent 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps yes, if you left the daggerboard in the water for a long period of time. But for typical use of several hours in the water, then on dry land, it'll be fine. (I've had bondo on daggerboards and keels for years.)
