Jim Gardner is such a great character. A broken man, alone and trapped, who loves his friend Bobbi and tries his best. And in the end, he saves the world.

Tried reading this. Couldn’t get past the endless pages of the heroine digging and digging and digging that ufo out of the ground. She also made lunch and ate it. The whole thing was taking up to 50’pages and was still going. I bailed and went straight to the finale.

King said he was blown up on coke when writing that novel and can barely recall composing it.

I guess I’m one of the handful of people that actually liked this book. This was my third Stephen King read right after Salem’s lot and needful things. I like the characters Bobby, gardener and The towns people. I don’t know, I just really liked it and I rank it in my top five Stephen King books and I’ve read a little over 30 of his works. Can’t wait to see what the James Wan movie looks like

Totally agree, I couldn't put it down and still haven't done that since with a book.

This was the second King book I read after IT, I found myself frustrated at times because of useless pages that don't really contribute anything to the story. So yeah, it's a bit bloated. But ultimately I think it was a good read, and it's probably the fastest I've ever read a book of that scale(slow reader). +funnily enough the Finnish version I read also has spelling mistakes, haven't seen that in other King translations

Oh yeah, the digging out of the UFO from the ground beginning could just taken a quarter of the pages it took in the novel. And we didn’t really need to know that she took a break and had what kind of sandwich for lunch. Surprised she didn’t go to the bathroom and King described the feel and texture of the Charmin brand toilet tissue that she used to wipe with. The editor must’ve been as high as King was.

I’ve read TT twice and imho it’s a great book. Especially the ending when they finally get into the ship, it’s great sci-fi. Amazing how King could write so well drunk and on drugs. He’s a mad genius.

I actually enjoyed Regulators and Desperation; full disclosure I enjoyed Desperation a scoche more, but when I read them I feel the need to read them both if just for the reason the same names were used but the characters are different.

I've avoided many of your reviews because you never discuss the plots(people complaining about spoilers). I want you to talk about the books....in their entirety. Would love to see you break down his novels discussing the pros and cons. Just my opinion.

Great review; I largely agree with your assessments of this book. Though I might be the odd one out finding the Coke machine part to be really great.
I for one would like to see you do a video on the different stages of King's writing career

well, well it was a hard read for me given the fact that I kind of got used to Kings writing(300+ pages that could have been skipped easily - all that digging and falling teaths :D).Either way I liked the ending :).
Why do people say its his worst book? - because they havent read Tom gordon or Colorado kid :D

Great review, Frosty!! I'm perfectly aligned to your thinking on this one. I've read it twice myself. And I haven't really noticed, but you brought up an excellent point: King's best and worst book were written about the same time. Wow. That blows my mind. Also, I hadn't realized there were 3 stages to his career. And you're absolutely right!! Definitely worth a video to talk about that.

Kings job is to provide a story and ideas to a reader, the editors are the ones that make it possible and enjoyable. As always great vid frosty, keep up the work!

Well done with the review. Funny enough, as this is criticized by many, Gard is one of my fave characters in any book. I found him extremely entertaining and well written. It’s kind of sad to say because I know King was going through addiction at this time himself so I think he was putting himself in Gard’s character, but overall I liked the characters in this book a lot. Typos, grammar issues like you said were definitely there and the book was kind of a mess but I still enjoyed it. Good on for you reading it more than once though lol. I definitely have only read it one time.

I read Stephen King was out of his face with cocaine and alcohol when he wrote Tommy Knockers , it's amazing he can write a word in that state,
You mention there was lot of spelling mistakes, gramma issues, and this is a big book with lot of unnecessary pages that should have been cut by an editor. Like most of his books which are big, I think the editor should do his job and chop all the rubbish and condense it to 300 page novel. But he seem to be afraid because Stephen King is too rich.

I recently read this and enjoyed it a lot** I went into it knowing that it was one of king's most ridiculous books and that alone made the ride very enjoyable. I love Jim's character. King's ability to use evil to describe group think taking over a town is just so good and he's done it with a few different books. Are some parts ridiculous and not realistic? Obviously!!! Did I take it for what it was (a crazy king book fueled by drugs) and enjoy it? Absolutely!

It was one of his better novels… I actually finished it despite the length. Although I do find it a quite a stretch that a kid would speak to a creepy clown in a storm drain. I don’t go near them, much less speak to clowns in them and stick my arm inside.
