Question on the exterior frames - why nails? Any thoughts on using screws instead?

I want to make the frame but the tools used are all big commercial ones. What can I use as a handy tool?
All you need is a saw to cut and a power drill to connect them together. You can use a circular saw or a jig saw. Both are easy to handle for beginners. Check out tutorials before using the tools and be very careful when operating it.
Can you make me a 30x60 blank canvas?
