looks like a good safe warm place for the bees good job the wood shavings seem like a great idea as well insulation for them I have also seen some others add dry rice to the shavings to help with the moisture good video really interesting Anna
Very interesting Anna, massachusettes prepper just did his winterizing and it was a little different than this. Very informative video, thank you for that.
PAPA Texas yup each area will winterize differently. It’s all pretty interesting! I just wanna keep them alive through the winter. Don’t want to have to buy more bees in spring and also I’ll feel bad if they die 😞
Yup it all depends on the area and how cold it gets to how much you winterize. Some put insulation wrap or tar wrap around the hives in the really really cold areas.
that is very cool i had no idea you needed to do all that to keep them alive. how cold will it get there and how cold will it get before they will not survive
There is a time it can get down to the teens here.. they can survive in very cold weather as long as they stay dry.. I know people in Alaska cant keep them alive during winter. I've heard of hives staying alive in like -20 temps. Those beekeepers usually will wrap them in insulation or some type of wrap to keep them warm.
