Yeah, I was also under the impression that it's "runtime" and not "real time". Didn't they release a few updates to both the RT and the Pro that removes the Flash restriction just a couple of days ago?
Hey Adam, you didn't change the RT "performance and Appearance settings". The RT displayed the "twirling" animation when you engaged a program, Pro did not. .
It is not important to compare both windows surface models because they are really different in terms of specs. You won't expect an RT to surpass expectations for the PRO. What makes a very big difference is the price. The RT is about half the price of the PRO, but the only difference is loading time for about 2 secs delay on the RT than the PRO. So RT is a good deal if you are budget conscious. Anyway, we don;t always rush to have things done. Why pay much for the PRO if waiting time for the RT is just split seconds. :)
+eric viernes yeah, i think the biggest difference really is that one runs Windows RT, and the other runs a full edition of Windows, allowing you to install any program on it without there being a Store App for it. Thats the biggest downfall for the RT (lol sorry i know this comment is 2 months old, just thought id give my input!)
Useful review but it's not really comparing apples with apples. Whilst the RT version is slower than the i5, is it actually perceived to be slow on its own, or against another ARM device? The RT and the Pro are the same 'in name only'.
I think they ""might""consider the Touch Pad/Type Pad to be a cover which I feel protected with it on, plus it serves the addional purpose that you'd always have access to your Keyboard as well. It does feel protected with it on. Not sure if you're interested in having more or not.
About double the battery life on the RT. No, the RT does not have a digitizer for the pen, but it will work with capacitive styli if you can tolerate those.
I kinda didn't want you to read my email address with the blurriness, and you can still see which turns on faster, but I guess I should go back to the more-time-consuming selective blurring method.
Hi Adam, you said in the Video that the Battery of the RT lasts much longer, but how much (compared to the same usage)? And has the RT the same digitizer for the pen like the surface pro? Thanks
do you realize that is what sleep mode does? It just puts it into a power saving mode, but still gives you instant access again once you hit the lock down. Ipad also has shut down. Just hold the lock button. They have the same states available, except for a few other options that can be accessed in windows for people that know what they are doing. Ipad just doesn't give it names like sleep and shut down within the software.
camera was not that focused at the begining of the video but it may be something caused by youtube cause it sometimes re-renders the videos you upload so i dont know.Secondly, its kinda hard to focus camera to multiple displays at the same time.
I got a Surface RT to replace my iPad and I absolutely LOVE it! I can actually get all my work done. The only few downsides are the quality of some of the apps which (hopefully) should get better over time, all my music is synced with iTunes Match so don't use my Surface for music much and I just don't get Xbox Music or how its supposed to work, the standard music app is pretty terrible, wish they would have included Windows Media Player. But other than those few things its an AMAZING device.
I understand that RT stands for runtime not real time? The battery life on the RT is great, but it is disappointing to hit roadblocks when surfing pages that are not compliant. Good review, thanks.
Some of us don't know much about computers and don't know the difference between the RT and the Pro. I didn't understand that the pro's better hardware made the difference. That's why I'm here.
I wanted to try something different (and colorful) with the touch cover. It works well on a table if you pay attention to the pressure you're giving the keys and keep your hands lined up on the correct keys. If you just want to type with a keyboard that feels the same as all other keyboards, the Type Cover is instantly usable with no learning curve.
I don't see the point comparing power-up times. You don't power these things down, you put them to sleep, and resume from sleep is faster on the RT. As for Apps, you spend most of your time using them, not starting them. The video missed a big point in favor of the Pro, its higher resolution.
Comparing 2 very different devices ment for different purposes, yes the rt doesn't perform as fast. But its ment to be used more as a tablet not a replacement for your laptop or desktop computer. Where as the pro can replace your laptop, it can actually be referred to as an ultrabook. Just like you dont see anyone comparing the macbook air with the ipad.
If you mean the CS from your normal PC: No. The Surface RT uses an ARM processor (like the iPad, like most of the android phones) which does not run x86 apps, only Windows Store apps can be used on the Surface RT (or on Windows 8 RT in general). If you are planning on gaming on a tablet, you should look like a Surface Pro -type meaning you have the full Windows 8 on it but keep in mind that the graphical power of tablets is equal to lower than standard laptops.
I got one thing to say, the flip animation option when openening was turned on the surface rt and on the surface pro it wasen't. That might have made a small diffrent in the app laucnh test
well, it's a comparison more than a review. and when you compare two things with vastly different results, it's hard not to be 'biased,' if you want to call it that.
The big advantage of the surface is that it supports Flash so Flash-based websites will load correctly. If it doesn't load correctly in the touch friendly IE, it will on the Desktop one (that is why it is build-in). For casual browsing + youtube (you can use the full website with ease on this tablet!) the RT is great. If you use only Word, excel, powerpoint, onenote and outlook (in 8.1 update avaible) the RT is also ideal. Combined with the 8h+ batterylife you got a good offer.
im so confused to get the samsung note 10.1 or surface RT or Pro. I just want a tablet that's similar to my windows 8 laptop but more lighter and I can easily do my assignments and take notes as well as record in lectures. Is the RT very useful for multitasking?
Also, for that use, i'd consider the surface RT. it comes with office out of the box, way longer battery life and much cheaper than the pro. For taking to schooll, it's damn near perfect.
I'm not saying that standby and sleep mode aren't different, I'm just saying that the differences between them is so small that he really shouldn't be insulting other tablets because of it.
what do you recommend for me? its first year of college and i wanted something light and not so much money, unless im gonna get my moneys worth then i dont mine paying the pricy amount. but i didnt want a laptop but i also what it to run well as a regular lap. and apple is sometimes difficult to work with and time consuming for me.i just want to ask for your oppion if its better to get a apple laptop or a surface pro or RT overall.
No, I can understand anything as well as anyone else, Oh Great and Powerful Oz. There are points that I made the you didn't want to concede to. As to "But if you press the button, it suspends the device. The RT and iPad go into standby, the Pro goes into sleep mode" unless you know more than the Surface's manual, you're wrong. The manual states: Press and release the power button when Surface is on and Surface goes to sleep, saving power but ready to resume quickly. Look it up, or leave. Sheesh
Your right on bout the digitizer. Taking notes would be way easier than the rt. But for me I would type words faster than writing and the only time that I would need to ink would be to draw a rough graph or chart. So It doesn't have to be super accurate. Selecting tools would be more unconvenient compared to the digitizer, but more convenient compared to a laptop. Weight-wise, a 1.5lbs tab is way better for my back than a 4.5ibs laptop; it feels energy consuming - mentally & physically.
I love how everyone is jumping down GolfYankee's throat when he's actually stating well known facts that you could easily confirm by using Google. There is a big difference between connected standby and sleep mode. -Trick, MCITP
Get the Surface Pro, its the best tablet out there I have it and it puts iPads and Android tablets to shame! and yes you can run any regular Windows 8 programs that you would run on a laptop while Surface RT cant
i admit, this isn't a "review"... it's really just a way to visualize it for yourself when considering whether its worth the price for you to buy the higher model.
hey :-) can i play a game like counter strike on the surface rt ( i have it on my usb) so can i move it to the surface and play it ?? plzzzzz answer me cuz i am thinking about buying surface rt and i wanna know if it is a gd decision or not thx :D
Is it realy fair to compare the Surface RT with the Pro, after all, Surface RT is a Tablet & the Pro is actually a computer with a a good Intel Process speed. Just saying.
It uses ARM architecture, that's an absolute shitshow, you cannot do jack shit other than play phone games on ARM, especially on windows RT and windows mobile, which is a flop anyway
I wouldn't say that. You can plug in a keyboard and a mouse, hook up an HD monitor, stick in a 64 GB storage card to the RT, run MS Excel, create a PowerPoint presentation, read a Kindle book, listen to music, browse the web, read your email, catch up on Facebook, print documents to your network or Bluetooth printer, watch TH-cam or Netflix videos, check the weather, shop on eBay and lots of other stuff besides games. But the Pro is a laptop replacement for business uses and the RT isn't.
People who are constantly online, people who run several programs at once, people who need to get several processes done at once, people who will use this for other than randomly writing on microsoft word, people who like faster technology, people who need to use this on a constant basis for school/work/whatever, people who are taking this outside it's pad-based capabilities. So quite a lot of people care.
I was actually planning to buy a Surface RT, Since windows 8.1 is on the Surface RT, I guess you can play games on it now, Not sure of the Frames Per Second you will get but go ahead and try, By Christmas I will know for sure If you can play a game on it using compatibility mode.
06:08 LOL that glitch on the pro
Do you think the Pro can run iTunes, meaning you can watch your shows/movies?
Sigh, how about people stop looking at the question "is it going to be faster?" , but at the question "is it going to be 400$ faster?"
Yeah, I was also under the impression that it's "runtime" and not "real time". Didn't they release a few updates to both the RT and the Pro that removes the Flash restriction just a couple of days ago?
Yes, the keyboards work on both the RT as the Pro version.
Hey Adam, you didn't change the RT "performance and Appearance settings". The RT displayed the "twirling" animation when you engaged a program, Pro did not.
.

+Studzman They now come with Windows 8.1
+Edmond Malouf The new ones come with Windows 10
Can the RT also use programs as ''adobe photoshop''? I saw that program on pro while you were on the menu
i remember when this guy was now starting...he was always so nervous but look at him now (y) keep up the good work man :D
Useful review but it's not really comparing apples with apples. Whilst the RT version is slower than the i5, is it actually perceived to be slow on its own, or against another ARM device? The RT and the Pro are the same 'in name only'.

This is called comparison, the way it should be done. Thank you.
I don't give shit about all this...we know the Pro is faster/ect, no duh.......all I want to know is if I can use a note stylus and draw with it...
You can't, pen input
I just want the cheaper one lol, so the RT lol
About double the battery life on the RT. No, the RT does not have a digitizer for the pen, but it will work with capacitive styli if you can tolerate those.
When you turn the screen off on your iPad, that's sleep mode. When you hold the power button down and turn it off, that's shutting it down.
I kinda didn't want you to read my email address with the blurriness, and you can still see which turns on faster, but I guess I should go back to the more-time-consuming selective blurring method.
so RT is a few hundred bucks cheaper and a bit lighter, but will it blend?
Boot time? It is a tablet(always on)
he said you can charge both using both cables, but would the 25 watt Surface RT Charger be powerful enough to charge the Surface Pro
So by your statement, laptops and the Surface Pro does not go into standby mode because of the processor, not because of the OS.
Twice the price, half the battery life?
Yeah, I remembered that while filming, but didn't think it was worth reshooting.
camera was not that focused at the begining of the video but it may be something caused by youtube cause it sometimes re-renders the videos you upload so i dont know.Secondly, its kinda hard to focus camera to multiple displays at the same time.
It would be good to know the power rating of that USB charger port. Not all are created equal.
It's relevant after a reboot, for an update or a software install for exemple. Not everybody use a device the same way you do
does the mini display port carry audio as well as video, or just video
I got a Surface RT to replace my iPad and I absolutely LOVE it! I can actually get all my work done. The only few downsides are the quality of some of the apps which (hopefully) should get better over time, all my music is synced with iTunes Match so don't use my Surface for music much and I just don't get Xbox Music or how its supposed to work, the standard music app is pretty terrible, wish they would have included Windows Media Player.
But other than those few things its an AMAZING device.
Does the pro come with office already installed ? or do you have to download it, and if so, is it free ?
I understand that RT stands for runtime not real time? The battery life on the RT is great, but it is disappointing to hit roadblocks when surfing pages that are not compliant. Good review, thanks.
Is the screen of the pro larger than the rt.... or are they the same? Cause the surface looked bigger on the video
Some of us don't know much about computers and don't know the difference between the RT and the Pro. I didn't understand that the pro's better hardware made the difference. That's why I'm here.
Yes. Anything you can do on a PC with 4Gb RAM and Core i5 CPU is possible on the Surface Pro.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to compare.
What tablet did you have that weighed more than 3.5 pounds?
Can this PC run the Design apps as we used to run in our laptop? ( Like Auto Cad?)
I wanted to try something different (and colorful) with the touch cover. It works well on a table if you pay attention to the pressure you're giving the keys and keep your hands lined up on the correct keys. The pro needs 2,5 hours to recharge so you can do that perfectly during your lunch.
How much do you eat exactly???
totally agree, chrome is awesome, explorer is just yesterday and no-one uses it unless they have to because its slow and speed matters most
Comparing 2 very different devices ment for different purposes, yes the rt doesn't perform as fast. But its ment to be used more as a tablet not a replacement for your laptop or desktop computer. Where as the pro can replace your laptop, it can actually be referred to as an ultrabook. Just like you dont see anyone comparing the macbook air with the ipad.
But which tablet is affected by Spectre and Smelt exploits.
I would recommend the aspire feather instead if you want portability and power
I think they're the same size b/c I think the Touch & Type Pad works on both Surface & Pro
Do you have any Light Leak on the boot screen or any black screen on the surface pro ?
2,5 hours lunch?
If you mean the CS from your normal PC: No. The Surface RT uses an ARM processor (like the iPad, like most of the android phones) which does not run x86 apps, only Windows Store apps can be used on the Surface RT (or on Windows 8 RT in general).

no geekbench test! how am I supposed to judge them against other devices??
I think the main reason is the lower power consumption on the RT chipset. This may be moot soon, with new Intel chips.
How do you like the Touch Cover? I don't know which one to get (for the Surface Pro)
I don't know who you are but thank you. You showed me that there are still people who buy gadgets for work and not for entertainment.
well, it's a comparison more than a review. and when you compare two things with vastly different results, it's hard not to be 'biased,' if you want to call it that.

Just curious. What does that mean?
Man, people really need to realize that the Surface RT is more designed as a tablet and Surface Pro is more designed for a laptop/netbook experience
Also, for that use, i'd consider the surface RT. it comes with office out of the box, way longer battery life and much cheaper than the pro. For taking to schooll, it's damn near perfect.

He did outline some important differences which either way are good to know.
No, I can understand anything as well as anyone else, Oh Great and Powerful Oz. There are points that I made the you didn't want to concede to. How much is the pro and rt? I'm planning to buy a laptop but I think surface pro is better.
The RT cant run Photoshop can it.. I'm trying to figure out if RT has a decent app for drawing/painting
Get the Surface Pro, its the best tablet out there I have it and it puts iPads and Android tablets to shame! and yes you can run any regular Windows 8 programs that you would run on a laptop while Surface RT cant
Does rt come with the cover
does Microsoft Office come with the pro?
So for someone who own a MacBook.
Should I get pro or rt?
this is so not fair can you not see that he always opens the program on the pro 1 second faster than on the rt. if you look carefully you can see it
i admit, this isn't a "review"... it's really just a way to visualize it for yourself when considering whether its worth the price for you to buy the higher model.
From what I seen you can run them fairly nicely.
Does photoshop work on the RT
Actually if you used a tablet and used the touch to type then you could copy and paste it into TH-cam thus writing a comment on TH-cam.
Can i install some steam games in pro and rt?
hey :-)
can i play a game like counter strike on the surface rt ( i have it on my usb) so can i move it to the surface and play it ??
plzzzzz answer me cuz i am thinking about buying surface rt and i wanna know if it is a gd decision or not
thx :D
The numbers of the dual & quad are just as important so you'll get the total picture & so you'll be comparing apples to apples as well.
It runs the full Windows Desktop, so yes, it can. Anything you can run on a Windows Desktop or Laptop you can run on the Pro.
can you work with premiere, photoshop, A.E... in the surface pro ????????????
how did it run the Adobe AE as far as rendering
isn't it run-time?
Why you hating on the RT ?! I'm getting the RT
The RT sucks bro
Smith Johnson But Android tablets actually have a decent amount of apps for them, the RT doesn't.
Is it realy fair to compare the Surface RT with the Pro, after all, Surface RT is a Tablet & the Pro is actually a computer with a a good Intel Process speed. Just saying.
surface rt's terrible
It uses ARM architecture, that's an absolute shitshow, you cannot do jack shit other than play phone games on ARM, especially on windows RT and windows mobile, which is a flop anyway
i had to return my surface 2 in exchange for the pro ;)
Im still using the Surface RT right now and its a beast, i play CSGO, Warframe and it runs like a beast.
༺k1ng༻ how exactly? RT does not support steam.
Well Jax, all i know is that I upgraded to windows 10 ans it runs fine
I play tf2 and csgo from it so yh.
But the Pro is a laptop replacement for business uses and the RT isn't.
how can u.tell the differnce between surface pro and rt by looks???????
People who are constantly online, people who run several programs at once, people who need to get several processes done at once, people who will use this for other than randomly writing on microsoft word, people who like faster technology, people who need to use this on a constant basis for school/work/whatever, people who are taking this outside it's pad-based capabilities. So quite a lot of people care.
What is peacekeeper?
Great job comparing
RT is in-fact real time.
Try googling RTOS - term is used for ARM processors with interrupt capabilities and can respond in "Real-Time".
wait the surface pro at 3:49 there is no animation
what does rt stand for?
I was actually planning to buy a Surface RT, Since windows 8.1 is on the Surface RT, I guess you can play games on it now, Not sure of the Frames Per Second you will get but go ahead and try, By Christmas I will know for sure If you can play a game on it using compatibility mode.
No. Windows RT's operation system only takes apps you get off Microsoft's webstore. It's really unfortunate but that's how it is.
this is just a benchmark test between these 2, what did you expect from a benchmark?
