Never knew people did ink prints like this on rice paper, My mother who was an artist did do many of freshwater fish then painted with water colors, pretty nice! I ended up different as an artist, I had taxidermy shops in Colorado and Texas in the 70's and 80's and di many fish and painted with an airbrush, I enjoy your vids, going to try surf fishing this winter here in Orange county
🌴 Gyotaku is so fascinating, as no two prints are ever alike , those octopus prints are bad azz! The biggest problem I see is finding rice paper in large size rolls and finding ink ,I would only guess that they would have to be special ordered from Japan as none of the local craft stores would carry anything like that, I’ll try it on a small fish as I know I can get letter size paper and I do have an ink bar from a calligraphy set , 🤔 maybe I’ll try some shrimp 🦐 or crab 🦀👍🏼
That looks so cool. I lost a very large octopus in Dec. I brought it up covering a crab ring. I stuck a gaff into it and grabbed it by an arm in an attempt to haul it in board but it decided it did not want to cooperate. It grabbed my hull and pulled itself under my boat tearing itself off of the gaff and out of my grasp to freedom. It’s arms were bigger around than mine and it was my guess easily 8+feet spread out.
@@ryanelliott7887 My family loves it. Tender when properly boiled, tough as a car tire if boiled too long. My youngest loves it when I add it in a stir fry. That being said I have never eaten or cooked giant pacific octopus, only our much smaller type that I do not know the common or scientific name of.
Both look incredible Ed, well done!

I have tried octopus. Way back in 2001 I think. Just as sushi. It was not good tasting.

Hey Ed. Thanks for sharing your technique. Where did you get that red stamp made that you put in the corner of your print?
Got it from this website www.kanji-hanko.com/
Did you make any copies or reprints? If so, I’d like to get one. I was showing my wife the video and she noticed they were made on her birthday
