Persona 4 Arena Ultimax 2.0 (what a mouthful) is upon us! A lot of you have asked what are the differences between the previous version (1.1) and the current one, so I put together a quick vid to fill you in.

Individual changes from previous versions for each character would be something I’d be personally interested in watching

As a newcomer this guides are LIFELINES to learn online also does anybody having problems connecting in online matches

Rollback isn't coming until summer 2022. So online is delay based trash until then.
I think the netcode is whack but I played it back in the day so I’m used to it
@@wave81210 yeah, yesterday i played 4 matches: 1st was kinda ok, 2-3 TRASH 10fps, and the last one same as 1st, we need that rollback netcode

You might want to move your camera sometimes to show the meter that your camera is blocking. Sometimes I just can't see the meter that you're saying they're building/meter usage/special UI elements
i never new they removed the mashing. that was the hardest part for me in this game ngl

@@aegisreflector1239 King of fighters 02 has a max mode, which much like shadows has slightly reduced attack in exchange for giving you more supers and cancels you couldn't normally do

You weren't kidding when you said shadow labrys was hard in your other video. I'm not quitting tho, her persona is calm.
Never really played P4U but with the changes to Panic, wouldn't left right mixups just not work because you can block by holding either direction? Since I have never played the game idk how common left right mixups are.
Edit : At 7:55 you talked about pressing back and walking forward would make you get hit but would that mean if you were holding back to block in a blockstring and the opponent leaves a gap that you could move in you would get hit because of it?
Your inputs are straight up changed. Left is right etc
@@sorenduscai I understand that the inputs are reversed normally in panic but at 7:30 he shows that you can still block with downback and downfoward.
@@BearlyAKoala Since now you can hold downback to block while in panic, maybe they are more vulnerable now to overheads? people might just default to holding downback so they might easily get hit by highs
panic makes blocking stronger, but it's good for convincing the opponent to block in the first place.
I think the crossup demon type characters don't tend to be the ones who cause panic, since that wouldn't be great for their game plan
To be completely clear, yes, it means left right mixups won't work. You can't block the wrong way (horizontally) in panic anymore.

Mitsuru, Chie and Aigis are top 3. Narukami is very strong but he's nerfed compared to Ultimax 1.1

Like don't get me wrong, Joker in smash is fun and I'm glad to have him, but I feel like he would have been a huge slam dunk in literally either of those games.

This game is REALLY complex and I don't get ANYTHING but I want to play it haha. Thanks for stuff like this to help, the tutorials aren't actually updated so it still tells you to go back and forth on freeze state.

Shadow characters getting crazy buffed is kinda disheartening considering how good most of them already were. It also just kills the unique feel and pace they gave to a match by making their design more uniform. Oh well

Just like in the japanese arcade version, there's no reason to pick the normal version of a character anymore. You're basically gimping yourself.

Honestly I really wish your camera bubble wasn't right ontop of the meter. It's honestly pretty annoying, why not just not include camera footage at all?

my main problem with them is that I really need to make one game my "main game" and if for a day or week I decide to do something else, say play elden ring or team fortress, I instantly become 200% rusty and spaghettify all my inputs

No, not really. The bbtag counterparts of the characters are basically super simplified versions of them, some characters being changed drastically like Mitsuru, who’s a charge character in p4au.
How does being able to activate shadow frenzy early affect the way its used? I remember Shadow Naoto had a pretty specific setup for her IK with shadow frenzy that I don't think would work with less meter to play with. Are there other options you might go for depending on the situation or do you usually want to wait for 100 anyways?
its a burst, any combo done in shadow state is unburstable, anything that drains your meter done during a frenzy drains a % of your time remaining rather than a flat number, and probably a few other reasons I can't think of off the top of my head. There are almost certainly combos you'll still want the full duration for but just having the ability to make that extra decision at any time puts a lot of pressure on the person playing against the shadow player.
@@unskilledrandom Not long after posting that I managed to get the game to work with my stick and realized that I could confirm into Hamaon at a comically small amount of meter so that's cool
So what's the downside to using Shadow characters? They don't seem to have any.
No ik. No one more burst. No awakening (under 35% health you gain 50 meter and a 40% defense boost and an awakening super also no 150 meter cap) although shadows get awakening super from the start. 10% lower damage but shadow frenzy does crazy damage so it makes up for it. Theyr usually better than their regular counterpart but the regular ones are fine too
No burst is really important since it’s very hard to escape combos without burst
@@butterflydreamer9649 shadows have burst in 2.0. you do need to spend burst to get to shadow frenzy in 2.0 too tho

i just bought the game on ps4 on my ps5 ( it says version 1.00 ) what do you mean with version 2.0 ? because the game will be updated later this year ? sorry for the dumb question because this got me confused
This is a rerelease. It's the 2.0 version, it just says 1.0 because as far as playstation is concerned that's what it is.
Why is there no shadow adachi?
because story wise, shadow adachi makes no reason
He'd also be the best character in the game with Magatsu Mandala available from the start.

Inputs are gonna become like second nature the longer you play dont give up yet:). Also if your having trouble with the super input try weaving the stick forward then reverse the input and then do the forward input again. Do this semi fastish and its pretty reliable. A little hard to explain on a youtube comment
is there any reason to play base roster instead of just playing the shadow version?
Some characters dont benefit a whole lot from playing the shadow version, like akihiko who is my main. Ultimately its preference, but shadows generally seem to be stronger. Not enough that they can carry you though.
Seems like they overtuned the shadows.
Well before, pretty much the only Shadow characters you'd ever see were Chie, Mitsuru, Yu, and Naoto because the weaknesses of Shadow characters were too much for the rest of the cast.

As far as we can tell it's mechanically identical to the 2.0 version in arcades. 2.5 likely is just because it's technically got new features like a console training mode that weren't in the arcade version.
So is it another game or just an update?

I'm hoping I could start off with Naoto since she's waifu, but I've heard she's hard to play since she's a zoner? Thoughts anyone?
Hardest part is probably trap placements. Game isn’t tht hard to get into. Play who you want
She's not necessarily a zoner, but can be played as one. She's like a weird flexible character that can be played around neutral, rushing down, or zoning.
Start anyway, it’ll only get hard once you start learning her trap setups
I’m dealing with the same with Marie, by the time you get to the point where you’re learning setups/set play, you’ll already have mastered most of the fundamentals of the character, enough to get by
Ex Naoto main here. She is definitely one of the harder characters to play and, although she got some nice buffs in this version, I believe she is still probably like mid tier. She's quite fun to play though (also has really cool Japanese voice lines)

Is the pc ver good?
It's trash. Crashes constantly. I can't play any mode besides combo trials and training, anything else sends me to the desktop instantly. Also no lobbies on PC.
@@Space_Australian thank you for sharing this as i was gonna wait a week or 2 to see if any major problems come up and sorry you had to play a broken game and its got me scratching my head on how they fuck up a port but then again idk how to properly port older games to pc
@@darkmatter7713 Yeah it really bummed me out. I was super hyped for this game, and I literally can't even play online, game crashes just SEARCHING for players lmao. Idk how they fucked up this port so bad when P4G and P5S both run beautifully on pc.
@@Space_Australian i actually forgot about p4g on pc and it was a good port iirc. my only guess is they got lazy with the pc port since i have heard no major problems on ps4 or switch so far and it sucks because i do not have a ps4/ps5 and there is no way im gonna play on the switch with the terrible netcode lol guess we gotta wait and see if they plan to fix the pc port
