A Monk Making a Japanese Sand Rake

  • Sometimes in life, we just need things to be easy and simple. I wanted to create this video of a Buddhist monk making a rake to show the simplicity and beauty of being out in nature and creating something by hand. Slow, easy, and simple. Absolutely no rush. Buddhist monks take the time to practice mindfulness in all activities. This video is very symbolic of the life of a monk. It shows how steady and consistent work over time can create something simple, yet beautiful. I hope this video inspires you to slow down and appreciate the small things in life. #monklife #monk #minimalism

    So beautiful. The task of making the rake is as much the point as the use for which the rake is made. Working for others, or at least, not for oneself, with no overseer or evaluator, no clock and no money at stake? I think it’s safe to say that this is rare indeed.

    To me, these glimpses into the life of a Buddhist monk are a visual of theoretical instructions and a reminder that this can also be implemented everyday, anywhere in our own lives:: Acceptance, awareness of the moment, pleasure of doing every deed purposefully but not rushed, taking the time for satisfaction in your completed work, meditation and so on.
    Thank you

    Dear Nick, you are the best. What a nice and easy way of learning more about monk life. The question is: What do monks think of or meditate or pray on , during their routine daily work ?? How do they keep their mind from wandering. As 'the mind is a great servant, but a horrible boss"... Love and Light from Amsterdam Holland X God Bless you and the monks.

    • @nickkeomahavong01
      @nickkeomahavong01  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For 2 reasons. 1. We live in the forest and there are strong winds. It keeps the door from swinging open. 2. To keep the wild animals out 🙂
      I don't have a lock, but actually use a hanger. We use what we got. Haha 😂😂
