The Cool With You MV references the story of Cupid and Psyche, But the gender roles are swapped around. Hoyeon plays the role of Cupid, Micol plays the role of Psyche and Tony is Venus.

I thought the story is about Hoyeon is a dead girl who is in love with the guy. But she was dead , she can't reach him or let him know her existence. So NJs as 5 angels who always watching her helped her to appear with the guy. Then they dated, had happy moments together but Tony Leung as the Death God or the kind of God who in the opposite of them. He made her invisible to the guy again making her realize she was dead.
She's a kind of cupid who makes others fall in love, but she wants to experience love herself, so she falls in love with this guy and starts following him, but he can't see her. Then in the rain scene she kinda asks the heavens for a chance, and then she makes herself visible and starts dating this guy. In the end, this man appears and "undoes" her power, bcs she cannot fall in love with humans.

Both tony & hoyeon are cupid. They job to make ppl fall in love with each other. But hoyeon fallnin love with this real human. So she turn into a human (hence in the side b she weqrs colorfull color instead of all black) and make him love her too. Only for tony to undo her power and make him love another girl. Bcs? its a metaphor eluding to the story of cupid (hoyeon), the psyche (micol), and venus (tony). this is the painting of love and psyche they were looking at in the beginning. newjeans are her guardian angels i believe, because they are the only ones that can see her. hoyeon is cupid, her job is making people fall in love. but she fell in love with a human- micol. and she abandons her job and just follows him around hopelessly. he can't see her, no humans can see her. (when she looks at the mirror, she has no reflection). at the end of side a, where she takes her clothing off in the rain and looks up at sky, it symbolizes her asking to become human, her own way of striking herself with cupid's arrow.
side b picks off where side a ends, she is now human and we can see that because yes her clothes are different, and people can now see her-- micol can see her. they start falling in love throughout side b. at the end, tony (venus/aphrodite) takes revenge by making hoyeon into a cupid again- thus nullifying her human status meaning micol can't see her and he forgets about the time they shared. ultimately, tony made him fall in love with someone else (that girl on the street) because she disobeyed her job as cupid

This MV based on the Greek mythical story of Eros and Psyche, Hoyeon's role with a good performance representing Eros and a male actor representing Psyche. First thing first, interracial love depicted in a kpop music video between a Black and an Asian person, I am here for itttt! Secondly, so I did some digging and found that “Cool With You” portrays the Roman/Greek mythological love story of “Cupid and Psyche” but instead of Cupid being a "he" they made him a "she" (played by Hoyeon). Cupid and Psyche is a story found in an ancient Roman novel called "Metamorphoses" by Apuleius (he was a Roman citizen and a latin-language writer). His most widely known work is his Latin based novel “Metamorphoses.” However, even though Apuleius wrote the story, I read that this same story can be found in many ancient Greek works of art, indicating that the story was FIRST told in Ancient Greece rather than Ancient Rome. I don't know I am not a historical researcher lol but anyways... the main takeaway from the story of Cupid (also known as Eros, a Greek name for Cupid) and Psyche is that Cupid (a god) fell in love with a mortal who he found to be the most beautiful woman ever. Not to mention, Psyche's beauty even rivaled with Cupid’s mother, Aphrodite’s beauty. It was said that Psyche’s beauty caused many men from many lands to travel just to be graced by the looks of her beauty. Aphrodite (also known as Venus which is her Roman name) is the “ Greek goddess of love and beauty” as we know in Greek Mythology. Therefore, she was both jealous and furious that a “mortal woman was the subject of the admiration of so many men.” Aphrodite then took it upon herself to tell Eros (Cupid) to “descend to the world of mortals and poison men’s souls so that they no longer desire Psyche.” Eros went to do as he was told however before he realized it, also found himself falling in love with Psyche’s beauty and failed to carry out his mother’s orders which led to Cupid actually being with Psyche. The whole story is actually really good if you ever decide to look into it and does have a happy ending! Moreover, the MV depicted some of this story along with some CHANGES and twists. Furthermore, you can see when Hoyeon looked at people and made them fall in love (1:24), you saw that she indeed was Cupid. Also, the painting all of them were looking at symbolizes the story of “Cupid and Psyche” which is an oil painting by François-Édouard Picot (3:42). It depicts the part of the tale when Cupid would leave Psyche’s bed-side before she woke up every morning as he would only visit her at night. That is also the same scene we saw Hoyeon in at 7:05. Now, at the end of Side A, Hoyeon (Cupid) goes outside naked looking up into the night sky assuringly asking to be granted her wish as a mortal that way she could live her life with Psyche as a mortal. Fast forward, in the b-side they are together until mystery man, Tony Leung (who appears to be Aphrodite/Venus) in the end. He turns Cupid (Hoyeon) back into Cupid again and making Psyche forget all the time they had shared together which is why he walks past her in the street and smiles at another woman. NWJNS MV has more of a darker turn than the original story which I like because they decided to still take their own route of things. But just know, Cupid actually DOES end up with Psyche in the very tale's end.

I'm truly amazed. I was impressed by the quality of the music video and the music itself, but above all, I'm astonished by the reactors' reactions. My thoughts.
The girl in black is cupid like being, a spirit meant to cause people to fall in love but after a while, she grows resentful because she wants love for herself. When she meets the male love interest, she becomes obsessed while New Jeans, a group of uncorrupted cupids watch on. The girl in black finally takes on human form to be with the man but the man with white hair punishes her by making her lover fall for someone else.
Alternatively, a darker take is the girl is a succubus meant to sow lust but she falls for a man while a group of angels (New Jeans) watch on. As punishment, the devil, the white haired man, causes her lover to leave her.

The story is based on the mythological story of Cupid and psyche. Hoyeon is Cupid and she can make people fall in love but can’t fall in love herself as people can’t see her. New jeans are her guardian angels.. cupids job is making ppl around her fall in love but she comes across psyche and falls for him. forbidden love basically. the scene when she shreds her clothes is basically her shredding the cupid title and becoming human so she can be with him . However VENUS, (Tony Leung) finds out and turns her back into cupid making her partner forget about her and not being able to see her. to punish her for falling for a human he basically makes psyche fall for a different human girl. in the original story cupid is a guy and psyche is a girl but they switched the roles for this. ppl are also speculating that new jeans play the muses in greek mythology who tell the stories. i personally think new jeans are the ones that snitched on her to venus cuz they’re the only ones that are constantly watching her throughout the videos . ❤👏👏
