NICE 1 Shane! All the PV Classic range are GREAT amps. I have a C20 & it a seriously good amp, except for the reverb. It sucks!
WAS it an original MIA model or the later MIC one?
      Cheers!

My experience is that scratchy pots are just dirty on the inside, and it's likely to happen to any pot. A bit of contact cleaner in the body of the pot can take care of it!

Scratchy pots solution: Many times it's just dust buildup, so roll the knob back & forth several times (somewhat quickly) for a min or so-- more times than not this approach solves the scratchy pot syndrome ;) Enjoyed the video!

To cure scratchy pots in a guitar or amp, I use Deoxit D5 which comes with a thin straw tube. Quick squirt into the pot, rotate the pot after spraying, problem solved. Phillip Mcknight on his channel "Know Your Gear" recommended this product for this application, works a treat.

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  หลายเดือนก่อน

It could also be way worse. These pots maxed the volume out which was brutal. It could be a board issue.

I would have asked the shop to maybe clean out the inputs of the Fender Twin amp before I dismissed it out of hand, but you probably weren't leaning toward it anyway. Peaveys are hard to beat and I think the reason the Peavey Bandit holds its value year after year is mainly due to your singing its praises on your channel.

I was lucky to walk into a music store and as I opened the door, a Classic 50 was straight ahead and I was locked onto it. It was like meant to happen. I also found a E410 cab later, and bought that also. My reverb didn't work, but a tech told me most likely it's a simple fix in these amps. I never even missed it because the tone is so good, and I have pedals. A friend and I compared like 8 high end amps, and the we both agreed the Classic 50 had the best clean tone of them all. It's been in storage in my house for maybe 5 or 6 years now, so I'm building a current limiter to fire it back up( to be on the safe side, it's one of the early amps), I like it paired with a 115 cab. It is a back breaker,so I used a two wheel cart and straps to move it. A great sounding amp, this inspires me to get back in use.

Hello Shane. I enjoyed this video. I too, have spent many hours testing and buying amps by doing these same things. My years of searching for my "best" amp came to an end a few years ago, when I purchased a JVM410HJS. I liked it right away, but going in, I did not expect the EL34's to be as versatile as they turned out to be. Once I became familiar with the controls, I was able to replicate all the other Marshall's I owned, including my JTM45 that has KT66's. I can also replicate all my other amps including but not limited to Fender, Mesa, Laney, Peavey, and many other amps, with some tweaking. It is now the only amp I need. I like it well enough that I am selling all my digital devices, including my GT-1000, my Katana Artist, and just using my JVM410HJS. If you haven't tried one, I encourage you to procure one and then set aside some time so you can get used to its controls. I find it to be the "Marshall" of all Marshall amps.

Great advice - bring your own guitar! I do that myself, except it's the reverse for me. I bring my main amp - a little Yamaha THR (I don't gig anymore). If the amp likes the guitar, then we're set. And never compromise. Never tell yourself "Oh I can get past this or that." Don't do it, no matter what If anything feels off in the least - walk away, or you'll regret it later.

Something about those 4X10 Tube Amps....... I had a Fender Super Reverb back in about 1972. Then sold all of my gear in a fit of heavy frustration with not being able to find other Dudes as serious about playing as I was. Later getting back into playing (I couldn't completely quit!) I bought a Rivera 4X10 Quiana. Still have it...still LOVE it! Paul Rivera was hired to help Fender get back on track with their Tube Amps because he really knows his stuff. The company has changed hands since I got my two amps, so I can't comment on the amps made after he left, but MAN! They were amazing.
Congrats on the Peavey Classic 50. They were great amps as well.

Shane you might dig the video of the 1960 Gibson GA-83S stereo tube amp a guy just uploaded. Vid title- *Homeskoolin’ Bonus “The Most Pimp Gibson Amp Of All Time”* About 25 years ago I let an original one owner early 60's Fender Vibro-King get by me. I was delivering pizzas and I saw it sitting in the young college students kitchen along with a Fender bass of the same era. He said his dad just gave them to him. He said he didn't play himself so would see with his dad what he should ask for the amp. He called me and said he'd take $650 for the amp. Sadly I had to turn down his offer because I was recently divorced and had my two year old son by myself. That's an amp rarer than hens teeth. Oh' well I've also had many great great finds in my life I did get.
I got up at 5am one day for work, looked on Craigslist and just listed for $25 was a complete minty 1950's Wurlitzer 120 piano with the horizontal wire in the music rack. I b-lined it to Akron from Columbus and grabbed that one.
I found a fully working AMPEG G110 Tremolo/Reverb 1976 FET Solid State combo amp sitting on the sidewalk one day with a "FREE TAKE ME" sign on it. It worked as soon as I plugged it in. I'm telling you it is one of the most amazing, sweet sounding solid state amps you'd ever play. And super versatile, you can plug anything into it. It's a closed back, front round hole ported cabinet so it has solid bass, but the FET's have a very tube like response. Excellent touch response. I know Keith Richards played the tube Ampeg VT-22 combo, but the G110 is the perfect Keith Richards honkytonk sound at moderate volumes, which the G110 can get pretty loud. I'd call it a must have studio amp.

Interesting. I may have to re-think my opinion of Peavey. I have tried about 4 of their amps over the years, and didn’t care for any of them. (Also did not care for their customer service or management style) Not sure if I ever tried that 4x10 model though. I’ll have to see if I can find one to try.

Yeah today’s Peavey isn’t what it used to be. You used to could call and always get a human on the phone, sometimes even Hartley himself and ask questions and nerd out. They def need to do some hiring. But give them another listen, friend. They’re my favorite amps. Check out Shane’s videos on the Bandits and Delta Blues. And check out Johan Segeborn’s old Peavey videos. I think you’ll be blown away

I'm spying that HiWatt combo amp behind you
I don't think I've ever walked into a store with one of my guitars to buy an amp. The only amp I think I regret buying was the Boss Katana. Not that it's a bad amp per se, just not my thing and a little over hyped when they cane out..
Second amp I ever bought was a 70's silver face Fender Twin Reverb - loudest bloody amp I think I've ever owned and couldn't get it to break up 😆. After that I realised I was probably a Marshall guy.
Look forward to the new GSS with this store Shane.

May 4,2024 was a new/used amp day for me too Shane. Picked up a mint Blackheart 100 watt Hot Head for $300.00 and it's a killer. Have had a Blackheart HD15H for years and it's a great amp but the 100 is a whole 'nother thang. Rock on!

they dont sound very good. my buddy has had one for years and ive played it and neither one of us like it. it does not sound like a super reverb. a super reverb , twin, or deluxe are going to sound miles better than the peavey. hes is now playing a marshall origin 50 head which sounds better than the peavey to both of us.

@@jasondorsey7110 yes he used an external 4 12 cabinet. its not the speakers. if you like the sound of a blues jr 3 or a hot rod deville or something along those lines then you will probably like it. its got a mid thats kinda harsh. it would take more than just a speaker swap to fix it. in a band mix it sounds ok but by itself it sounds horrible to me. a deluxe reverb sounds much much better, cleaner and not harsh at all.
