- Three years ago, I first encountered rickshaw girls in Asakusa, and I was amazed by how these cheerful, energetic women could pull heavy rickshaws through the busy streets! It left me wondering: what makes them so happy and motivated? Why do they choose this unique job? And what does it take to be a rickshaw girl in Asakusa?
Curious to learn more, I reached out to my friend Misa, an experienced rickshaw driver. She not only taught me how to pull a rickshaw but also shared the essential techniques and the powerful mindset behind being a successful rickshaw driver.
To be honest, I wasn’t great at it (actually, I was the worst 😅), but it was such an eye-opening experience! If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to step into the shoes of a rickshaw girl, this video is for you. I hope you enjoy it! 😍

But the traffic scars me a lot.
they make it look easy than it really is. need to grab the handle properly, the right height, the right posture, being mindful of the traffic and passenger. lots of work. you girls are strong indeed!

Rickshaw looks easy but the fact is you really need wonderful technical to pull at least 250KG rickshaw to run a at least 30minutes tour in Asakusa. I really respect you are brave to do it 👍

Balance seems to be very important in rickshaw operation. A great deal of skill and finesse is required. If I were Yuka-chan's passenger, I would be both amused and terrified.🤪 So over-all, an exciting ride!

Thank you for your video. This video should be a suggested training video for foreigners who want to watch the many rickshaw tour videos that are available. Although they make it look easy, your video showed me that it is even harder than I thought it was. And the drivers do that over and over for their customers. Very entertaining video, but I think the title is misleading. I think you actually did very well as a rickshaw driver! I really like your videos and have watched many of them more than once (for example the masterpieces Sunrise Express and temLab Planets). It will be interesting to see what is next on your bucket list!

When i 1st saw rickshaw drivers online in Japan i was surprised it wasnt like other countries since Japan has so much tech. Seeing Yuka do this was informative & it must be hard doing this on hot days & smiling. Maybe in the future theyll at least have the driver in a bicycle like they do in usa

When I first visited Japan many many years ago, I was surprised to see young people pulling rickshaws in tourist's areas ...😮 Then later on when I realised there were girls pulling them and one as cute and inspiring as Misa chan... I watched this again, and all kidding aside, I was impressed. You took on a new and challenging task, and recorded it for hundreds or thousands to see. That took guts. You went in cold, with no prior training and you tried your best. I disagree, you're not the worst driver. That title belongs to the driver that has the skills, but no longer cares about the job they do. You do care, although you hide disappointment well, you care about your work, and in time the skill will come, but you'll never be the worst. You've made that impossible.

I didn't know the bar had to be pushed down that low in order for the passengers to not lean back and for the driver to go forward. It is a perspective not seen from the passenger's pov. Even seeing drivers from outside view doesn't show it. It must have been awkward to hunch down forward to almost falling down in order to drive the rickshaw.

I think the job is the gym! Some jobs are physical, so you don't need to go to a gym.
